It's not illegal to be gay in China. The government just doesn't think it's 'normal' and it's against their outdated 'traditional family' ideals, so they don't support it WHATSOEVER, and they don't allow it to be acknowledged in the media because they think it's catching or some dumb sh*t. But yes, The Spirealm, despite the forced/default/meaningless bromance tag, the censorship preventing any romantic physical interaction and the last 8 minutes of the final episode being dismissable, is AMAAAAAAAZING > :3 The people who made it can hold their W for life!

Now there're 38 eps, so lately I've been recommending ignoring the last 8 minutes of ep 38 and then skipping to chapter 130 of the novel for the best ending😂😂 had to update with the series format change LOL

In War of Faith Yibo had minimal to no make up for most of the show, it was much easier on the eyes. That said, as LWJ, he looked fantastic in all white, his face included 😂 but that's Xianxia for you, they're supposed to look perfect, ageless and beyond normal human.

:D honestly, reading the novel is just like a compliment to the show and vice versa, they're both so great! You'll have no regrets!

YEP. Same thing. Although personally I prefer less makeup on men and woman. As it is the white face make up is excessive imo. Pics with their natural skin just look SO much better. But that's just me.
Still, it should be their choice to wear makeup if they want.

It's a gradual process in the novel. Nanzhu is very obvious and handsy and flirtatious with Quishi from the get go. Qiushi seemingly doesn't avoid it because the very first time they meet and Nanzhu is coming on to him, it's as Ruan Baijie and Qiushi considers himself as default het. So a girl getting touchy feely is fine, you know? Except, after he finds out Baijie is actually Nanzhu, when Nanzhu continues to be handsy with him as Baijie, he still doesn't have a problem with it.

Nanzhu himself makes bolder moves at first only when crossdressing, he loves hamming things up when inside the door world regarding Qiushi, but as the novel goes on he starts to be more obvious even when he's not dressed as Baijie, and Qiushi very slowly starts to pick up on the fact that it's not all fun and games. Then there's an arc where just as Qiushi finally realises Nanzhu is actually interested in him romantically, and that he's not as straight as he thought he was, there's a short period where Nanzhu starts to pull away for his own personal reasons.

Then Zao Zao dies. Qiushi is emotional and upset about it and Nanzhu knows he would be. So Nanzhu, having been distant for a brief while before that happens, calls Qiushi, who tells him where he is and Nanzhu goes to him. They kind of have an emotional breakthrough at that moment when they see each other and talk a bit, and then Nanzhu kisses Qiushi properly for the first time, and from there, they're officially together for the rest of the novel. :D

XZG has the chest and ankle tattoo, one small word inside each elbow and then the new one on his right forearm. 2 of his tattoos include suns actually, which I think has something to do with his name. And nope, I think they stopped doing those things because the more mainstream they become, the 'cleaner' they have to appear, in order to be idols. So, no changing hair colour, no piercings, no (visible) tattoos, mind what they say in public, etc.

😂 Yibo loved his piercings back in the day. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a tattoo too, and just keeps it covered up to preserve his cultivated image. As for XZG, I hope they don't crush his personal tastes in future.

LOL yes, he has five permanent tattoos, the fifth one is very recent, it's the text and image on this right forearm. But he had four for a long time before that, including the one on his chest.

Also, he had his ears pierced before, he used to wear earrings, and you can still see the healed over holes in pictures when you zoom in. Sometimes they airbrush them in editing, but you can still see it most of the time. I'm not sure whether the eyebrow piercing was real or not though. Here you can see the ear piercing hole, the eyebrow ring (which may have been fake), and you can even see another of his tattoos on his left inner elbow, it says LOVE.

Nah, he's just as slow on the uptake in the novel, even with Nanzhu crossdressing, flirting and getting handsy AF with him. 😂

The more popular he becomes, the more censored he'll be because the company wants him to keep climbing. His words carry more and more weight the bigger he gets, so if he mentions The Spirealm at all, it'll get majorly boosted in the media, which for a BL is not allowed in China. Nothing we haven't seen before.

Eh, they've even started to edit out his tattoos in his official photo shoots, and he wears no permanent body jewelry anymore, all piercings are gone. I guess it is what it is in China. Really oppressive.

Yeah, it's not the first time. Before The Spirealm even aired, some interviewers asked him about it, also a magazine interview asked him about it. He either refers to it by the time of year he was filming in 2023, or he says 'when I was going through the doors' and in one interview he asked the staff if he could say it and they told him no.

It's actually unsettling to see the stuttering and uncertainty he has, and it's disturbing to think that in 2024 someone has to censor themselves like that because of the possible consequences his career may face.

I still think about that moment in the school bathroom where Li Dongyuan is nagging him about Baijie and he spaces out when he admits he likes someone else. He's so slow, I wonder if he was on the verge of an epiphany about Lanzhu before LDY nudged and interrupted him 😂
