MDL will not change the amount of eps unfortunately. They've rejected the change saying they will keep the episode count as it was originally released at 78 eps, despite all the official platforms broadcasting at 38 now. But yes, as stated, there is no difference in content.
Can someone please share the book ending? I have heard the adaption and book have different ending. Book ending…
Do you mean spoil you or you want to read it yourself? If it's latter, then here's the novel link: https://www.webnovel.com/book/kaleidoscope-of-death_26659051105826905 Jump to chap 130 and read through final door the end. The adaptation and the book are different in MANY ways actually, not just the ending.
Ah, I see, good spots. Two of them are there though:
X organization boss: Marshal Zhang (plays Yan Ba Lang)
The one who went to obsidian to spy for X org? You mean the girl who went to Obsidian to spy for White Deer organization? Yin Rui (plays Zhuang Ru Jiao)
I wonder why they changed RLZ's voice... Maybe they had to change some of the flirty lines he's saying?
Dubbing is generally necessary is many Chinese dramas because film sets are not always noise controlled and so the actors real time recorded lines are unusable. And sometimes it's because of accents not coming across clearly or matching the rest of the cast in a show (although that applies more to the Cn period/costume dramas).
In addition to needing the voice to match the character, sometimes they do offer the actors the chance to dub themselves. But the actors can decline that (like Wang Yibo did for The Untamed, he declined doing his own voice over), in which case they'll use a different person to voice over the actor.
In this case, XZG does sound young and less severe when compared to the voice over actor used for Ruan Lanzhu.
Ruan Lanzhu is dubbed by Li Yan Feng. I think he is only a voice actor.
This trailer just dropped with the actor of RLZ using his real voice (not sure why but it's great xD), and I thought of your comment. Here's the link: https://twitter.com/i/status/1779301901986845180
After WRL, SJZ, and NCM escape Shanghai to Jiangxi, WRL leaves SJZ behind telling her that he needs some space…
THANKS! I actually watched up to 32 so I saw the stuff you mentioned in the first few paragraphs of what you explained but I was kind of distracted when watching it and I was missing some subs, so thanks for explaining it all.
Thanks for taking the time to answer in such detail. I can't say I'm surprised by these 'twists' and character deaths, the reason I was getting bored was because it was becoming predictable that the main characters were all supposed to be the good guys in some way or another, even though they were 'on opposite sides' to begin with, which was where the interesting tension lied. Kind of typical for the main actors to all be 'good' in the end. Pity about SJZ though, legit liked her character. I could guess a major character death was coming, it was obvious, someone important has to die in this kind of show. But that's part of why I got bored too. They missed the best opportunity with STN, and then there was no need for a whole very long sad montage of STN's death for WRL and SJZ crying and stuff when the audience knew he wasn't dead. It fell quite flat because there was nothing to be sad about knowing he didn't die, at least for me. It might have been more poignant if viewers hadn't yet know he was alive and they'd done that imo. Not surprised SJZ and WRL found out he was alive either, at least, it might have been sadder if SJZ died thinking her brother had died saving her, but nah, they were too straightforward with confrontations and reveals. Also, that's a lot of content for 6 eps, wasn't it rushed?
The acting was really so good though, everyone really excelled in their roles. I really enjoyed and preferred the tension and suspense of what was unraveling before they got to episode 31-ish. Anyway, sorry for sharing my unsolicited opinion xD
There's a trailer on Viki now, for The Spirealm. I can't share the Viki link because of the geoblock, but someone also posted it here: https://twitter.com/i/status/1779301901986845180 AND YES, as the person who posted pointed out, THAT'S XZG'S VOICE, not the dubbed voice. I mean, it's not as deep as the dub voice, but he still sounds very Lanzhu-esque.
Of course it is a Chinese propaganda movie, but as China has now made a vey successful comeback to the world scene…
Smart is relative though, right? Even educated people do dumb stuff š but yeah, no, for sure propaganda is everywhere, China just has a bad wrap with the 'west', so people harp on about it more loudly š
If by WY you meant Wang Yang then you need to keep watching coz WYās acting is simply amazing after Ep 30.
Oh nah. I meant Wang Yibo. I don't know the other actors by name. But real talk, ALL the actors are amazing in this. The story just dried up for me around ep30.
Of course it is a Chinese propaganda movie, but as China has now made a vey successful comeback to the world scene…
I just can't help but to point out that the only people who believe American propaganda are the dumb Americans, not even all Americans, just the special dumb types. The rest of the world is just down for the entertainment value in their films and shows š Propaganda is everywhere, eating is up is the risky bit
Heeeeey, so someone please spoil the general-ish ending of this show for me. I'm a fan of WY but this show got boring af around episode 30 and I'm struggling to get through to the end. Tell me how it wraps up?
Rewatching this again, in Viu with HD, really make me realize a few details that escaped my notice a few times…
I noticed that, also for a second in the background of the internet cafe you can see Cheng Yixie's terrible hairstyle š Unfortunately though, it actually further confirms the ending, that Jiushi was just dreaming the whole thing while he was unconscious, and that he spends his whole life trying to find the spiritual realm, and in the end of the series he's old by the time he manages to recreate a virtual world that was like what he dreamed. The ending is so š compared to the novel!
My suggestion is always to ignore the time skip ending of the series, (end on ep 77 or ignore the last ten min…
Oh noooo, I think there's a misunderstanding xD Xia Zhiguang (the actor) plays Guo Dawei as a stand in for the character of Ling Jiushi's best friend (who isn't a central character who needed to have any facial appearance) Lanzhu isn't Guo Dawei, they're different characters/people in the show. I hope this makes it clear xD (I don't want to spoil the novel for you, but Guo Dawei isn't in the novel, so the character didn't require a face.)
As for reading, I know some people aren't big readers, so I suggest starting from chapter 130 (where Juishi enters the eleventh door) and just read until the end. You'll see how different it is and you'll get to enjoy the ending. Here's a link! https://www.webnovel.com/book/kaleidoscope-of-death_26659051105826905
Ruan Lanzhu is dubbed by Li Yan Feng. I think he is only a voice actor.
Haha xD nope, he's dubbed. It's not uncommon in Chinese dramas for actors to be dubbed by other people. His own voice is good too, but for a character like Lanzhu, maybe it's a bit too youthful.
To understand the story should I start with the novel or this show? Cuz when I tried MDZH's novel first I had…
The series is actually easier to understand, especially now with proper subtitles. The novel is more complicated and is actually quite different in many ways from the show. I would suggest watching it first, then when you read the novel, you'll understand everything more quickly and easier. And because they're quite different, you'll also be able to enjoy those differences when you discover them :)
why the heck they made Ruan lanzhu as NPC....like it reminded me of doraemon ending ...when nobita becomes an…
My suggestion is always to ignore the time skip ending of the series, (end on ep 77 or ignore the last ten min of ep 38) and to read the novel (at least from chapter 130) to soothe your pain and be satisfied. BEST ending, and it can tie in from 77 very well!
Jump to chap 130 and read through final door the end. The adaptation and the book are different in MANY ways actually, not just the ending.

Zhu Fu Run ę±åÆ궦 [he plays Xiong Qi (ēę¼)
Yu Xi äæäæ [she plays Xia Jie (å¤å§)
Inghan Chen éå©§ę¶µ (she plays Xiao Ke(å°ęÆ)
I have submitted the missing cast to MDL. Please point out any others you notice.

For anyone who is okay with watching on their phones.
