They're doing great with the humor, seriously. I laughed so much. During the scene where they were trying to get into the auction and Jack started being extra, the actor clearly wanted to laugh! haha 🤣 They're such a weak group of morally grey people all just kind of shuffling around in criminal activities. Bad meets worse lol Also, Joker is really not very smart, I mean, why carry the incriminating ring you stole in your pocket when you're going to see the exact people you stole it from?? Lol I mean, wtf was he thinking?? And then Jack sees Hope is calling him but answers like it was Joke who was calling him, mofo just gave up the game like what? XD But somehow it's working, because the story is moving forward and the actors are carrying the various facets of this well.
I also really like Hope's character too, unique to see a humorous sociopathic character in a THAI BL, nice, very new, very entertaining. Hell, I was even laughing at Joker and Jack cleaning a bruise for some reason, maybe the subs were wrong? But the scene was funnier for the fact that Joker was being so obvs affected by Jack in that moment, acting like an awkward dork, so it didn't even matter about cleaning the bruise. And Rose was funny too, poking Arun where the button came off 🤣 This was a great ep, lots of fun and lols
Could someone please tell me what Hill wrote on his Instragram post showing Ter's hand? as subtitles didn't translate…
เปย์ไหวได้ไปต่à¸à¹„หมครับ :) directly translates as Can I pay and continue? :) So I reckon Hill means, 'Can I continue to buy you dinner :)' and since the whole food thing is big in Asia for it's meaning of eating = good well being, it could be a way of saying he wants to be take care of Ter in future.
Have you told your Mom and Dad about BL series? And what is their first reaction? Is this normal in your country?
My mother watched the Untamed (and some other BLs), she just considers them to be an extension of LGBTQ+ series. She really loved TU though, and became an instant Wang Yibo fan, she has since watched quite a few of his other shows.
Things from ep 1: 1. Noh's character is likeable. I also think short hair on a ML character is great and way too rare. 2. It's funny, in a good way. 3. Those are the ugliest school shoes I have ever seen in my life. 4. Phun's little sister needs to be institutionalized. (this is a remake if I'm understanding the comment section, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that there is type of twisted female character, quite a throwback to the earlier days of crazy bishes in BLs😂)
and the best thing you forgot to mention, we have real good performances (at least from the protagonists)
And also, as I've mentioned in previous comments, the most important thing is the show doesn't take itself too seriously, so watching it and knowing that, makes it's varying degrees of making sense, make enough sense to enjoy it.
Reasons this show is a good watch (for me): 1. Entertainment value is on point 2. Humor is on point 3. Actors make up and the show lighting is more natural and better for it 4. Not everything is a happy go lucky situation, some content is actually fairly dark/serious 5. MLs got some UST going on that even has Joke dreaming about ice cream trucks and Jack 6. Jack's Grandma is an OG and Toi Ting is a Little G 7. Hope is a sociopath and he's funny about it 8. Aran is an atypical villain (in appearance and personality) and he's hilarious 9. Tattoo is such a fucking idiot and he's likeable for it 10. It's just plainly fun to watch
Nice. This ep made me like Neil more than I did before, seeing him stepping up to focus on what he has to do and not thinking he has it all under control because he's been there and done that, and also respecting that Sea needs space too, while being honest about how he feels for him. I liked that clear 'I'll miss you.'
Sea also continues to show a very mature character, and maybe the growing confidence musically and eventually on stage, is meant to help him, when he and Neil finally start properly seeing each other. The new song is very catchy too, especially now we've heard the second verse of it. I almost always skip singing and music in BLs, it's nice to actually enjoy the music.
I was gonna say it ended almost perfectly, with the only silly thing being the running to each other trope in JBLs, which is always so stupid, but this one was short and pointed, as it was they didn't live far from one another and were always walking around to everywhere, so it wasn't overdramatic like in other JBLs where I can't help thinking 'just, take a cab bro'.
But then it got BETTER and clocked as a perfect ending (according to my rating standards) when at the end-end Amasawa-san said "Call me Kyosuke.". I have always disliked the lack of use of names between established in couples in Thai, SK and Japan BLs, so when he said that it soothed a LONG standing irritation I usually feel for that kind of thing and officially checked all my boxes for a personal 9.5/10, since I enjoyed every episode and have no complaints about anything. It's too basic to give a ten, but it's still a VERY pleasant watch.
This BL doesn't ask for much because it's simple and sweet, but it's not filmed in the asinine, eye rolling way where everything is too overly unicorns and rainbows and every look and scene is drawn out, but rather in the way where it flows well and the MLs acted well, as two normal nice guys who meet in a random way, and we actually watched a friendship and then attraction develop without any excess drama. This BL will suit those who particularly like the 'everything is beautiful and nothing hurts' type of show.
Someone I was talking to today described the ending of some movie they watched as feeling like it 'ending with a comma'. And when they said that, I thought of The Only One, and how it also felt like it ended on a comma, just an open pause.
Alright, so the end scene of ep 11 (before the credits) pulled the show back into focus, and in ep 12, it stayed in focus (thankfully), even the conversations were more focused on the point of the show. There was still filler, but not nearly as much as previous episodes. The acting, especially in the emotional scenes, were done really well and the scenes of SW's attraction further dawning on him were all very nicely done, and also funny.
If they make a s02, I will watch it (because the acting is really good), but I do hope they drop the excess filler and keep the story in focus, even if it means a lower episode count.
In the end, episode 12 was fine, and as to the whole show, considering this is a high school (and falling for their step bro 'complicated') teenage romance, the whole thing more or less adds up to a sensible, passable ending, but only if there is a sequel, otherwise, the ending is open ended in a totally pointless way.
I can't rate it more than a 7.5/10 though, because personally, the drawbacks were not compensated for, even by the great acting. For example, too much wasted time/filler which was skippable without affecting the over all story. And the 'second pairing' teacher focus was boring af, I do see how they helped SW to come to his realization about his feelings, but they could have still had that scene, while making the second couple focus Gao Tian Yang and Little Pepper, or not having a second couple focus as all. (Is it following the novel? I don't know, But ALL BLs would be taking a step forward if they drop the second couple trope all together). And finally, and the biggest ick for me, was JT's continually increasing level of simpage. It was off putting, I mean, having a mini emotional episode because his crush moved to a different classroom is just, well, sad. And not in the 'aw sweet' way, in the 'ugh, seriously?' way.
Over all, it was not a waste of time to watch this, but it took some patience. It'll suit some viewers tastes and press the patience buttons of others, but whether you skip through filler or watch every scene, it is worth a one time watch.
Three eps in, not bad, I get a little bored here and there since it feels kinda' too safe too early, like there isn't any suspense since everyone important who is a good guy will, by default, have everything work out. That said, I don't want to drop it yet.
I'm sorry but what is this show supposed to be? Eleven episodes already and nothing is happening. The two leads…
Hi. So, I'm Switzerland here right, neutral, because while this show is well acted, it's not blowing my mind or anything and I see no reason to sing unnecessary praises about it. I just want to help clarify, The Only One is a romantic story, hence it's BL. The relationship between the MLs is a (very) slowly (and sometimes wandering tale) about a somewhat complicated unfolding teenage attraction, so it has not (and will likely not) be depicted as a physical relationship even by ep 12. But the show is not having to cover up anything or trying to pretend that the MLs are just friends, the intention and realization of romantic feelings has been made clear enough thus far.
Unlike in censored BLs, where bromance is a forced tag, literally by legal obligation, showrunners have to do their best to toe the line between gay and straight so the censors don't throw their toys out of their cots. No censored BL is actually bromance. Censored BLs would not be tagged as bromance if they weren't forced to, as the MLs are gay and everyone who knows the source materials of those censored BLs knows it.
Bromance (I feel bad that this word has had its own important and unique meaning for close male friendship misdirected and misused) is defined as: a close but non-sexual relationship between two men/males. Just friendship. Only friendship. Best bros. Brosefs. Homies for life. Brothers from other mothers, BFFs, besties, and so on. Totally straight dudes though.
The Only One is not a censored BL and it is not a bromance. It is a high school based BL.
Also, Joker is really not very smart, I mean, why carry the incriminating ring you stole in your pocket when you're going to see the exact people you stole it from?? Lol I mean, wtf was he thinking?? Additionally, this is the first time a JBL will be added to my list of recommended BLs.
