If Zhao was able to stop him, how much would be different? Why did she try to stop him at all? The accusations…
I think she wanting to stop him is her immediate reaction to save him from any harm, knowing that he was branded a traitor. She probably wanted to have time to come up with a plan with him. Like you said, it was good for him to realize the full extent of his father's evilness but if it were not for Dou Zhao saving him, he would not be in a calmer mindset and was able to go back in a better state for his cleansing mission.
I have never liked the mother from the beginning. She is a coward and has never tried to understand her daughter…
You're right, I enjoy this show but cannot defend it for its use of numerous tropes. I am going to soldier on for now and hope that JYY continues to impress me with her intelligence.
I cannot relax with this show...at least our boy SongMo was smart enough to realize who she really was...
I would love to see his father come to a horrible end, which I hope will happen soon but at least for now, Song Mo changed his fate and avoided being branded a traitor.
It's devastating about Lu Zheng, I guess the lesson still remained that the bad consequences gets transferred to someone else. The show even showed one of Dou Zhao's bodyguards reacting when they heard the news....so sad...she liked Lu Zheng! ðŸ˜
Why can't someone just assassinate the third uncle Dou Shi Shu - he is so disgustingly vile and without him, that stepmother can do much less. MY poor Wu Shan, I do like him and now like the typical SML, he is going to give his all for the FL no matter what.
I have never liked the mother from the beginning. She is a coward and has never tried to understand her daughter…
You're right, he's not that bad compared to other MLs or her ex where there were promises made. It was a nice scene when he smiled, waved at her and mentally told her to wait for him, and she shouted back that she will. It indulged our (the viewers) romantic view about how well they click with each other :D

Sure, he made it clear but not to JYY. He led her on instead and that's what what I don't like about most MLs who decide to be all noble, do a 180 degree change and confuse the heck out of the FLs because it is for "their own good". Then when the FLs decide to move on, the MLs come running back snatching the FLs back like it is their right to do so. The FLs will of course take them back because they are the MLs, and will have some swoon-worthy romantic things to say... we all know that it will happen in this show :D

Yeah, the writers just keeping adding more angst just to draw out the story. Look at ep 21, how stupid are they including JYY?
They didn't even look at the so called debt note, with the guy acting so suspiciously hiding it from them, and not reporting to the authorities and the mother even asking if they can take the money out of the society first...

I guess I would be more understanding if he was the typical conventional gentleman ML, but he himself said that he does not follow conventions. Plus like you said, he has made his intentions clear to JYY so it made it even worse for JYY when he backtracked and rejected her.
He should told her that he would fight for her and get to a point where he can make her mother feel assured instead of flat out pretending that he only treated her as an ally.
Anyway, I'm watching ep 21 and YJL's actions needed to happen for the set up of the next plot development....as much as I don't like it, that's how it is :D

At first I was ok with the mother, knowing that she wanted to keep her family safe but events shown that being cowards made their lives worse, and it was JYY's courage that improved their lives.
I don't know - it seems that YJL and JYY were already almost there, just short of them confirming their love for each other. Honestly, if I were JYY, I would also think that YJL was just leading her on...
You're right - it is the era where parents decide the marriages of their children but seriously...as if the mother does not know JYY's personality
Catching up on ep 20: I don't get the mother. I used to like her but she seems to lack some common sense now and is so narrow-minded.
Her family has become safer and more successful, with most of their oppressors taken down with the help of YJL. Yet she still doubts him. Not only that she knows JYY very well, and she expects JYY to agree to just leave for a faraway place married to someone she does not love... I really hate parents who think they know best especially when they have been proven wrong over and over again...
I am annoyed that YJL was such a wuss, couldn't even be honest with JYY. Hmmph - after everything they have gone through, he couldn't even tell her.
Wow ZXY has really turned bad, and he still justifying it by saying it is all for JYY? I used to feel bad for him but he's crossed the line. At least he's still not willing to work with NWN...I would be 100 x more annoyed if they teamed up together.
I wonder if the 2ML's female sidekick is in love with him.
