Up to Ep 11 now, and I’m starting to doubt the theory that Peacock could be You Chen An —but not enough to fully discard it. Because it’s always the one who looks the most harmless and pitiful who eventually turns out to be the snake. Years of misery tend to morph into resentment, and resentment often breeds a hunger for power. Just like @Mizuhira-san mentioned with Xia Jing Shi from Fated Hearts, or Yan Bai Luo from Glory—quiet suffering, tragic backstory, and then boom: we have a villain arc.
Also, the timing and logistics don’t quite line up here. Peacock appears to have been in the Tang country for quite a while, and You Chen An didn’t exactly have the kind of free mobility that would make the theory airtight.
What is interesting, though, is how the King of Nanzhou relies on You Chen An—so much so that he’s clearly keeping things from his eldest son. That alone suggests You Chen An knows far more than he lets on. Still, my current read is that he’s a spy rather than the true mastermind. More chess piece than chess player,
In other words: suspicious, yes. Mastermind? Not quite—at least not yet.
All that said, he could be the ultimate villain though - just biding his time and then getting rid of his eldest brother and the king to grab the throne.
I am incredibly annoyed at Jing Yi at this point, just starting on ep 11 now but at least Xiao Jing Yu did get some good advice. Hopefully he was able to absorb it before the next crisis happened.
PSH has come a long way since I first watched her in The Heirs. Gotta suspend some disbelief about her posing as a 20 year-old but other than that, this looks like a fun watch! I love the actor playing her boss. I just finished Can This Love Be Translated and he's also in Idol I. Such a talented actor!
Did anyone else notice the camerawork where most of the background is blurred out and mainly the character is in focus? Even though the director wants to move our attention to the character, I find it distracting.
Amidst the speculations and suspicions, there are a couple of things I am glad about: - the relationship between the emperor and Xiao Jin Yu. - Chu Chu may seem naive but she is actually very aware - she knows about the political dangers and implications, epecially with Xiao Jing Yu sharing his thoughts with her.
King of Nanzhao: How's the Peacock operation progressing?Guard of Nanzhao's Eldest Prince: Peacock has taken over…
That said, I don't think he would be working for his Eldest brother though so I think he's pretending to be cooperating now but will claim the power for himself.
It’s such a rare treat! Not only did we get a Season 2 with the lead couple happily married, but the show went the extra mile and gave us a second couple who are also blissfully married. I love these case-solving team of 4!
Venting bcoz of some SML simps my friend, they are equally annoying like Pei. Thinking and believing FL will choose…
Totally get the vent 😂 There will always be fans who prefer the aggressive, assertive pursuer over an ML stuck in his noble-idiocy mode. Confident or not, though, we all know how this story goes—SMLs are there to make noise but MLs will make it to the end. The outcome has never really been in doubt especially when the FL is too smart to fall into the SML's game.
Actually he is not a terrible character. His pressure forces ML to realise his feelings towards FL. And if we…
Well said! I actually like the character's purpose in this story. I am catching up with today's episode and I get why people are upset with him for all the shady things he's done. However, I have a feeling that he will have a redemption arc after he realized what his father has done. (I am just guessing what his father did)
Usually I would complain when there are so many clichés in a show, but not for this one. The clichés are written into the story in such a way that’s genuinely enjoyable and entertaining.
With such charismatic leads, a polarizing SML, great dialogue and scenes, along with fun side stories threaded through the VR world, it’s no surprise the ratings have stayed high.

I agree with you,! I hope Gong finds love with the person that we are shipping him with.
