If you want to see her play, a really cool protagonist check out the modern drama Brilliant Class 8 (plus her…
Whas a great summary of her skills! I was ging to start Luoyang but I am more in a mood for a modern drama so I'll give Brilliant Class 8 a try. Thank you!
I finally finished this after putting it on hold for a while — probably because I’d already spoiled the ending for myself and the middle stretch dragged enough that I lost interest.
The leads, Liu Xue Yi and Tiffany Tang, were excellent, and Crystal Guo and Zhang Li were great too. And honestly, LXY and Tiffany looked *so* good together — her more mature, elegant beauty paired perfectly with his charismatic good looks. The story was solid for the most part, but they could have cut out some scenes and moved the romance along quicker.
The ending felt very *meh* to me — especially the final episode. Even though we’re supposed to feel hopeful because of that open promise, I just didn’t get the satisfaction I needed after 36 episodes. Once again, I have to remind myself to manage my expectations with xianxia dramas.
The only way we can all survive just one episode a day (it's a psychological massacre!!) is to nourish our hearts…
Great analysis! I love your Lara Croft vs. NJL comparison — they’re cut from the same “trauma-tested, don’t-mess-with-me” cloth, but they really do reflect different audience tastes. Lara Croft is basically a superhero in combat boots (to be fair, she is a video-game heroine), while to your point, NJL feels like an actual human being. She’s skilled, sharp, and tough, but she can still falter and get exhausted — which somehow makes her even more compelling.
Bittersweet moments for the leads as they share their traumas with each other. Talking heals too. As does starting…
Yeah it is odd that for such an important place, they did not keep a closer eye on it. I was thinking that maybe it’s only been a couple of days so I should t be surprised that no one came to check on YT or the big dude that they found a blood bag for.
A good and revealing episode today! I love NJL’s little gestures out of consideration for YT. I feel terrible for both’s traumatic childhood experiences but I also feel bad for Lv Xian. He’s now trapped - unable to reach out and having to pretend.
I agree with the other comments, Xing Shen may just turn out to be the worst villain.
Great review the drama sounds lovely and heartwarming; can I ask how mutual the romance is? Is it something like…
Thank you! The romance is pretty mutual. The ML was the first one to try, but he was always very respectful and gave the FL space. The FL was hesitant as first becasue she thought he had a girlfriend, but opened up naturally after that misunderstanding was clarified. Once they re together, it was pretty balanced. There was one argument because the ML didn't want to burden the FL but he came to his senses pretty quickly.
100% agree... I kept thinking, "How many times can this FML be lead to a secluded place alone before she realizes…
:) Yes - if it was not for WXY, I might not have continued with the show. It's too bad he couldn't get paired with better actresses like he did in The Double!
Gatling Plus 😂 This male lead is so entertaining...
