I was ready to give this show an 8.5 for its strong acting and romance, but had a predictable plot for the first part of the show as well as weak writing. But as the story progressed and the plot deepened, it drew me in more and more.
In the end, it’s a 9 for me—can't give it a perfect 10 due to the plot holes, convenient scenes and uninspiring OST (personal opinion). I also did not like how the writers felt they have to spell out everything for the audience. We are not that dumb.
And let me say it again—screenwriters, we need more couples like Yan Chi and Qin Wan. Smart, loyal, and grounded in trust. No unnecessary drama, just maturity, strength and love.
Even the second couple, though younger and less mature, were charming in their own ways —honest, devoted, and equally endearing.

Right? All this time, he remained good, and even Qin Zhao Yu was not as bad as we thought she would be. It was his mother that was the power-hungry and wanting to stomp on everyone else.
Honestly, how can people not see how fake the grieving Emperor was.. Was he deliberately mocking everyone, taunting them saying that yeah you all know it was me but there's nothing you can do about it...
He's pretty brilliant though - causing all these internal conflicts and suspicion, using the power-hungry dummies but also loyal officials to do his dirty work.
That Yan Qi—what a coward. Always putting on a tough act, but the moment Yan Chi shows up, he’s shaking with fear. Classic bully behavior—loud until someone stronger walks in.
