Yes, after Rebel Princess and now this one, I feel like we should stop anticipating lest we jinx it lol So far, I'm feeling good about Storm Eye though :)
LOL @ “ for a normal female human without the additional exotic DNA, her skeletal structure is in no way less…
Lol. I thought after sleeping on it I would be more forgiving...but alas! I really wanted to like this show, I even stuck by it... but the screenwriter deserves to be shot. I think he needs some exotic DNA injected into his brain cells to make the writing better :O You're right about the Bollywood effect. This also has the 70s Bionic Woman vibe too!
Nice. I'll need to see more of Yuan Hong here to erase the same extremely-not-good images of mating dance in the other drama. I actually have this on hold around ep 9 I think because of the idol-focused direction of the story but I did appreciate the visual effects which were quite well executed.
Congrats on your first editorial piece! Lovely article and very nicely done. Most, if not all, of us on Feeds have already known what a big fan of JoL you are. Your pfp says it all, really :D Great job and thanks for sharing your love for historical and your fav characters. Princess Agents and Under the Power have some of the most badass FLs indeed!
Ouch. Definitely a code violation - those pillars are wrongly placed :/
Lol. When I saw the video and how ZZY was being treated by the "tit-tar", I actually felt bad for her. I hope she chooses a better project next time, if there's a next time.
I've got this on my list and will start it imminently. Love the genre and have been waiting for it since you posted in your earlier article for upcoming shows this year. Thanks for sharing the summary :)
They wasted so much time on that terrible Wang Qian/Helan arc and skipped over all the potentially best parts…
Hmmm.... convoluted. It seems that the screenwriters did take liberties in certain aspects of the source material. I think this whole production, from ep 20 onwards, became a different animal altogether. But anyway, there were some positives and I honestly thought it would go on to become a masterpiece but, nope. It's good but not great.
I hope ZZY, if she decides to do another TV drama, takes on a better project. It doesn't even have to be an ancient historical. Perhaps a republican era setting would suit her. I still love her but this show has diminished her reputation a little bit (not to me but in general) because the writing simply did not suit her.
Anyway, rant over. It's nice to catch up with you again since Qin Dynasty Epic :)
Congratulations on publishing your first article, well done! The Rebel Princess is a visually gorgeous historical drama indeed starring an A-list actress, definitely an epic. Hope to see more articles in the future :)

Many people (at least as far as I noticed on Feeds and among my MDL friends, so this is not a conclusive statement) I noticed dropped or put this show on hold around ep 20+. The show started very strongly indeed but the momentum totally dropped right after. The boredom began rather early and to make it to the end is quite an achievement.
So congrats to you and the rest of us who completed this journey :)

Exactly! I think this time, the "good guys" won when they're not all that good. The line of Ma family is the root of the decline and unfortunately the source of Wang Lin's fall...

It's a bit of a paradox, isn't it. I think at the end of the day, it's a combination of contradictory compromises meant to show the history in good light, and not to overstep the boundaries of what censorship allows.
As far as this show is concerned, filial piety can be disregarded for the sake of preserving the nobility. Or, the concept of monarchy has always been flawed, hence communism is the best. Actually there's so many ways to interpret this.
I didn't read the novel but if this is exactly how it transpired in the book, then we have to ask serious questions of the author - it's a "Disney happily ever after" ending for our charming Princess and dashing General, but the common folk and lowly soldiers can die a tragic death, no worries.

Good luck and hope you like it more than I did!

At least she'll forfeit that "killer outfit" when we next see her in Kong vs Godzilla lol

What's your take on this, bibi?
