They wasted so much time on that terrible Wang Qian/Helan arc and skipped over all the potentially best parts…
Which is why at the end of the day the only competent person capable of running the country is Wang Lin. The rest of them are a bunch of hypocritical idiots, if you really think about it. The kingdom most likely crumbled after this show's ending. Or at least went bankrupt.
Great article, it's very informative and insightful. Thanks for the effort in promoting our fascinating Dark Side Cult! Love your moniker as well, the Hogwart's Twins! :)
Thank you for the warm welcome :DYou are right on the money regarding the build up of the melodrama, Wang Lin…
Ok, I see your point of view. I think I understand your viewing expectations a little better now :) It's interesting how we all have different takeaways from the dramas that we watch. I'm interested to hear your thoughts on AA once you've seen it. If you're aware of the history, even better as it enhances the portrayal of real life characters. It's only 40+ episodes but is only the first part.
I enjoyed reading your review and I agree with most of it. I am on Episode 59 so there are a few more to go until…
Thank you for taking the time to read my humble thoughts :) Appreciate your feedback as well and I do agree, Xiao Qi is one of the better depicted military man in historicals to-date and I wish more characters were as well written and portrayed as has been the case here. The ending is quite a shocker so do brace yourself for it! :D

Yes, agree, the presence of compelling characters would sell the show immensely. For me, pure melodrama without the clever scheming is just cringe and toxic, like any other OTT slice of life contemporary with weak (not necessarily villainous) adversaries. Advisor's Alliance and its sequel, Growling Tiger Roaring Dragon are pretty good and are sort of in the same mould as Qin Dynasty Epic because it's based on history. As such they don't offer the element of surprise but present themselves as a case study on ancient politics.

That's true, Wang Lin is a worthy successor and it's always a pleasure to see a strong character adding depth to a production. If only the other supporting characters were as compelling...
Welcome to the nitpicking club! Hehe. I feel like I've been expecting the melodrama since the whole kidnapping…
Thank you for the warm welcome :D You are right on the money regarding the build up of the melodrama, Wang Lin is my favourite character in the show and Yu He Wei's portrayal is indeed remarkable. You forgot to mention your other fav character, Advisor Wen :P
Thanks and happy chap goh mei to you :)With The Sword and the Brocade, Word of Honor and Storm Eye coming up,…
Oh dear, hopefully things get back to normal for you - there are so many shows waiting for you to indulge in!
So far the response for Word of Honor is quite positive, and I enjoyed the first 2 episodes. This seems like a potential for an thrilling wuxia. My personal preference though, is Storm Eye. Maybe because I miss Yang Mi and the sudden urge to take a break from historicals after Rebel Princess lol.
I haven't watched Sword & Brocade yet but the cast looks great.
Wah... nice review! You finished watching before me! I was afraid you would drop!
Thanks and happy chap goh mei to you :) With The Sword and the Brocade, Word of Honor and Storm Eye coming up, I had to get this out of the way lest it plagues my mental health!
Congrats for publishing your first article :) It's very well put together and contains much useful information on each upcoming drama, so thank you for the hard work. Looking forward to your second article :)
