Thanks for the updates, really appreciate it! I've added Iryu Sousa 6, Kyojo 2, Red Eyes: Kanshi Sousa-han. and Imawa no Kuni no Alice (it's already airing but I'm saving it for later) to my PTW list :)
Disclaimer: Long review. The lack of appreciation for Wuxia genre itself really comes through with majority of…
Thank you for your insightful feedback on the drama. I'm not really hooked yet and not entirely satisfied with the screenwriting either but based on your assessment, I'll persist with it and see how it develops for now.
I'm scared of this comments section. But I do share your sentiment. It's safer for us to be in the other comments section - lots of useful insight and real sense of warmth by the users too.
Iris? Ok, I'll go check it out. It's been a while since I last watched this genre. I think this year's K-dramas…
Yup, Iris the K movie (which I've seen too so I knew it wasn't this one lol) popped up when I searched for it on Netflix. The correct movie also popped up as the third choice and from the poster design I sort of guessed that must be the one XD Ok, I'll avoid the wikipedia for this one.
Heh... ever watch the French thriller Iris? Maybe you will like that too. They really didn't over do the twists…
Iris? Ok, I'll go check it out. It's been a while since I last watched this genre. I think this year's K-dramas have this recurring theme but I haven't watched them yet. Psychological revenge plots between married couples lol
Yes, I really enjoyed Psych-Hunter. It's angst free and very cleanly executed without being overly complicated. It's not the best in the genre, but somehow I find it refreshingly different.
Yes, Skibbies is very knowledgeable and a great source of info. I added her as a friend too because of Qin Dynasty. I'll check out the feeds as well!
When I saw the title, I immediately thought of the Tom Cruise movie. Turns out, your review reminded me more of the Sharon Stone movie, Diabolique. And I love Kill Bill as well :D
I've added this to my ever growing PTW list and it sounds great. I liked the part about getting help from the men friends - I think teamwork and unity is important at the end of the day. I'm curious now with the plot twist you mentioned. I was already blown away earlier this week with the plot twist in Psych-Hunter so I'm all for mindblowing plot twists now lol
Btw, I never would've thought Skibbies recommending shows other than historicals - she sounds like a history and linguistics professor. Impressive indeed!
Oh ok, no problem. Appreciate your feedback, it'll help to refresh my memory. I honestly can't recall many scenes from NIF, except the major ones. I really need to watch that scene again, the sword fight looks awesome!
Brilliant article! This is really great job and I must commend you for your efforts. The very appropriate use of the artwork accompanying every section of your article, the quotes (love the one at the end) and the gifs as well (btw, the gifs on sword fighting, which drama/ movie is that from? The choreography looks fantastic).
I love historicals and there are many out there from both SK and China that it would be impossible to list them all out. I tend to "cheat" a little - I try to watch only shows that have a less tragic outcome but there are a few that I've watched all the way and I end up with more than a tinge of sorrow.
Your brief description of the key elements of every historical drama is spot on, there's nothing more to add really. Thank you so much for this and keep up the great work! :)
Very nice article and great selection of music being presented, good job mate! I love music and OST plays an important part of my drama viewing journey, whether it's the intro song that sets the mood, closing theme that brings closure to the episode, selected MV moments during the show or just BGM that captures the tone of the scenes. I listen to all kinds of genres in any language, because music transcends words, right? :) For the drama Signal, I also love the opening theme - I will Forget You by Jung Cha Sik. Damn, what a voice, it's a slow rock-folk-soul fusion and really captures the essence of the show. Great show and fantastic OST!
Heian period is like 1000 years later though. The Qin hairstyle and some of the costumes are reconstructions from…
Ah I see, haha. Good point, they probably remake them as memorabilia for tourists. I'm just waiting for the pandemic to be over before I can travel internationally. Appreciate your insight!
