On Love Area Part 2 Apr 4, 2022
I loved this. It was the most painful ending. But it was such a good ending for them in terms of the fact that it all didn't just get swept under the rug for Kai and Valen.

I am hoping for a Love Area Part 3. But I can handle this where it left off, as achy as that is.

I really enjoyed episode 4 but it was for the tension it built. Pacing in storytelling is an easy 4 beat rhythm. The 1/4 point in a drama of this length should be where the first strong shift in direction happens. So it was well timed and makes me feel like the writers understand pacing, even if the plot seems just a bit slow.

That's not to say I preferred the way Ram was taking his sweet damn time deciding to speak out or how to handle Nam, or even how he feels about Luck. Nor was I a fan of Phai's choice. Or Luck's passivity. But the thing is, it all fits as part of the tension build as the relationships get ready to transform.

Ram and Luck are both characters that, for different reasons, need a shove to move forward with each other. Ram, because he seems overcautious and disassociated from the idea of romance and even sometimes is a bit purposefully unplugged. (He's a strange one.) And Luck, because he's shy and overly humble and doesn't want to get his hopes up. But the foundation is laid. Ram is a "Mountains in small measures" dude. Tiny choices mean things with him. The consistent redirection of Nam's presence onto Sky and Titan (And aren't the two of them Saints) and the extra, very careful attention he gives Luck is his way of exploring and communicating interest. And it's clear everyone around Luck reads it that way too.

And Luck just does what he does. Which for a while will be enough. Cook, and be himself. But right now he's caught in between Phai's concern and his own insecurities. In order for him to get what he wants, he's got to accept it's possible. And that's an internal struggle no one can help him with.

Sky is my hero. He's like 90% of the common sense in this show. Which I love. It's very mom energy. And it's sort of balanced by Phai's dogged cynicism. Who is doing the Tiger mom thing from his end. They almost cancel each other out.

Nam is...troubled. That bitch needs to take a step back. ROFL. Somebody's going to have an aneurysm if she's not careful. That head's going to pop right off. The problem is, when she finally explodes the asshole penalty zone will be AoE and people around her are going to get hurt. Namely poor Luck.

But hopefully, before things get too bad, Ram will step up clarify his intent. While it's okay, and even good, not to care what others think about his interest in Luck, that doesn't mean it doesn't have very real world consequences for our fav little chef. And he knows this. Though I did love Sky calling him on it.

Also, Ram's sister is win. LOL. That is all. (And I am telling you, I ghost ship SuperKitty)

the only time i laughed was when lian was dancing cuz it was on 2x speed and he looked really stupid lmaooo
It's an effort the magnitude of which is beyond my scope to speculate upon WTF they thought they were doing. (That never stopped me before. )

This bat guano starts out with Lian's boss-level machinations, having hiked Kuea up onto the counter (because of course ass belongs where knives and food are) attempting to fix his broken doll with his tongue. And it went downhill from there.

I'm actually impressed. I got lost in BounPrem land only long enough to surface smack in the middle of more drinking shenanigans. And...WTF, the two of them ending the episode the way they began it--Stuck together at the face still without having had coherent conversation about this shit. At this point someone needs to take them both aside and explain that if they'll jack it once or twice before meeting up, they might make it through a talk about relationship status without their apparently neglected libidos taking over Houston Control. IDEK.

The pink underwear, mind fuck was...not something that fit in this universe. Why, after watching the previous 6 episodes, did they think we'd watch Lian doing his 1983 Risky Business dance in pink satin boxers and not assume someone slipped Kuea a hallucinogen? Also, while I am at it, did they ACTUALLY fucking treat us to dating in the form of a grocery store trip?

Who the fuck wrote this shit?

They might turn it to Stockholm syndrome, keep this option in mind as well.
They do? That does sound weird.

Yeah, recently I've been watching Cutie Pie and I am... not happy at all. It's creepy AF. I can't say I've watched History 4. TharnType is a weird one. The acting was very good. But it had several key moments that are tragically awful and simply under no circumstances are okay.

I was expecting exactly that for episode 1 of KP and was honestly so pleased that it was as good as it was.

And I said if it's handled well in tone that's fine. But if they romanticize it like it's not creepy AF then they've handled it wrong. We'll have to see.

I'm expecting some dark stuff to happen. It's all about the context

I can handle the bad stuff so long as the TONE is right. It needs to be severe and dark and the plot and music and other production values all need to point to it being a villainous act.

My problem is when they do the toxic shit and then put cutsie or romantic music behind it and light it soft like it's meant to seem sweet somehow. No. I do not romanticize noncon. And if they do that here Imma be 30 miles of mad.

I am hoping the tone of any violence, sexual or otherwise, gets treated with gravity and not as fetish fanservice. That's all I ask.

Toxicity is a relevant observation even in Mafia stories. If you don't like a comment, don't read it.

OKay, I was expecting bullshit layered in hype. Like Cutie Pie.

This though, was legit. This show had cohesive story, clear character motivations, the rich visuals, the sumptuous set, music, PROPER FUCKING TONE, amazingly choreographed violence, a very relatable protagonist, REAL family feelings and care, a fantastic slice of underworld life and the most laughable remake of a The Godfather character I have ever witnessed. This one is a solid, solid production. It had style, it was nuanced, it was brave. From cinematography to set to story to dialog to acting, it had it all.

So yeah, I am down for this. I liked the moody vibe. And the baby brother was absolutely the sweetest motivation any character could have for doing shady shit.

What I am concerned about? We know sexual violence is coming. I am legit concerned about the tone. If they keep the scene dark and contextualize it as a bad thing and not fetish fan service then I'm down. if they fuck that up and make it for the horny girls, though, I will be have something to say about that.

As it is, though, they've earned my trust on this one. And my respect. I was not expecting that.

We'll get to see it. I know we will. Just not in this train wreck. They deserve to have their own show and I can't wait until this fall!

Oh hon. Yes. Just yes.

In past weeks I have not had any idea what the fuck the two of them were part of the plot for. But now I know. It's to rescue us from the rest of the episodes.

Oh, Lian looked stupid on regular speed too. I thought I was having a fucking stroke. Or a fever dream. I was screamming "NononononNOoooOOOOO!" Into Discord to my buddies who watched it with me. I cannot even. Fuck this whole episode.

I have no problem with butt grabbing if your entire relationship didn't jump from "Hey, we can't have one reasonable normal conversation where we're open with each other" straight to fucking on the couch almost.

But then that's not a surprise. Lian's worse. So, yeah. This episode was somehow meeting it's own previous records for fucked up and surpassing them like it was going for an Olympic gold medal in sucking.

With the way people have been shtting on this show trust me no one is afraid to say this show is bad or offer…
I'm not sure on that one either. It's not like the compliments posted here about the show meet a threshold for constructivity. This might be something of a double standard.

BounPrem ace it no matter what they show up in. They need their own show, dammit!
I will be glued to Between Us and no one will pry me away. I could have wished for a post college spin off, but I get Win/Team again. And I will probably be so pleased--unless they completely fuck the plot.

At this point I could roll with that assessment. They probably are the highlight.
