It's the question of the hour. Why does Lian have to force him not only to move into his home but into his BED.

I have noticed that the level of performance expected of actors in CP's during touring varies a lot from company to company. Some of it is more organic and lightweight and is just everyone on stage doing Q&A and singing. I do not mind that at all.

But some of it is really off the wall. Some companies are notorious for staged theater type events where new scenes get acted out. And it's really weird. Like... just go watch the drama over again. Let the actors autograph your pictures and them let go back to living their lives.

There are some hot collars in every fandom and MDL pages are notorious for polarized viewpoints and nasty people. Try not to take it personally.

It's not something that makes a lot of sense. But some time ago I realized the popular ranking of a show didn't necessarily correlate to its actual quality.

Fanservice is legitimately awful. And I have protested the mistreatment of BL actors until exhausted. It IS homophobic. It is. The BL community of straight women has some legitimately woke people in it. All of whom I am grateful for. But I have run into way more straight women who only fetishize two men being sexual and are actually antagonistic at the idea of real homosexual culture having a place in BL. They're also antagonistic to the concerns of the gay community at large.

Just do NOT ask someone if they are gay in anything resembling a public forum. Not at work, not at the movies, not in a restaurant, not in the grocery store, not at your in-laws house and no, not at a fan meet, social media intersection or news interview. A person's sexual identity is no one's business but theirs. Unless you know them very personally, you don't even really have grounds to ask.

And I hear all sorts of rhetoric to support it. I hear "If you don't want the actors to be out then you aren't an ally to the gay community". My answer to that is usually something along the lines of "Bitch, I AM part of the gay community. I am perfectly poised to call you on your crap". I know, not helpful. But this fake LGBT ally posing is gross. Because it's actually hurting people. Actors who don't want to answer are being punished for not doing so. Some of them have received death threats for not playing along. If these fans want to ally the gay community, don't force people to identify their gender orientation or sexual identity. Whether they are straight or gay doesn't matter. Certainly not just to feed someone's damn fantasy life.

I've also heard the excuse "Well if they play a gay role they should expect these kinds of questions." That one is real popular. No. If they don't ask actors playing hetero roles if they are straight, they should not ask actors playing gay roles if they are homosexuals.

It's about respect. No fan is owed knowledge of the actors' sexual identities or any other private information. People need to get their fingers out of their panties for 5 seconds and start treating these actors like people and not personal fetish dolls.

Yes! This is something I will be all too happy to read after the whole series airs and I've left a formal review.

This whole thing is chillingly awful. Lian has forced someone who doesn't want to be there to not only live with him but share a bed. And it's disgustingly predatory. Kuea doesn't need straightened out. He needs to get the fuck away from all the awful people in his life.

People become habituated to being controlled and even though Kuea wants to be free, he's not really got the tools for that. It's neither something that has ever been awarded him as he was raised, nor was he really ever encouraged to explore it. If he really was prepared to exhibit "backbone", he would have stayed in England in the first place, where he was happy, artistically rewarded and relatively unhindered.

He craves approval and love. But he also craves freedom. The best thing that could happen to Kuea is that he finds the will to just go it on his own, and he leaves to build a life in which he really feels empowered. But this is one of those creepy dramas where the artist needs reined in by the asshole and we're supposed to like that. So we both know he's not getting free of Lian.

I think the problem with Kuea is that he's grown up having to hide who he is to get any kind of approval or freedom/latitude to be who he wants to be. And he wasn't hoping Lian would love him for his true self. Everything in Kuea's life tells him Lian is incapable of loving him for who he really is. But he was hoping Lian would love him at least for who he pretended to be. Which is very sad. But sometimes when we love someone we allow it to twist us into doing things that seem a bit counterintuitive.

The best thing Kuea did was take Lian at face value and decide to end the engagement. The problem is, due to being in love he's dragging his feet about finalizing it and Lian is taking advantage of that in every way instead of himself being honest. Neither one of them are telling the truth. The difference is, Lian is doing so maliciously with the intent to "Fix" Kuea, whereas Kuea is only doing so as a coping mechanism for the pressure to conform that he's under.

Of course, this is just my opinion.

What is City of Angels? Is that perhaps the new thing coming out from Star Hunter Entertainment? Or is it something else?

But yeah, if you try to dictate to people how they should react to something with absolutely no authority to do so, some people are going to do what you don't want them to, just to spite you for your audacity.

That being said, I have heard a lot of conflicting things about KinnPorsche's probable content and yes, I will be there.

Have there been a lot of people saying they are dropping KinnPorsche here? I have missed those comments. Which is entirely possible since as much time as I am on MDL, I don't get to read nearly all the comments before I'm busy with other stuff.

I'm going to be watching and reviewing it to assess how the toxic couples are treated. Again, if the toxic behavior is framed as a bad or villainous act, I'm all good. It's when it's framed as sexy and romantic that I start making criticisms. I also will not be reading any book that may source KinnPorsche, just like I didn't for this show because the drama itself should tell a complete enough story to answer questions that are raised. Some say KinnPorsche will be like this show and romanticize the toxic behavior, some say it's going to be framed as the awful thing it is. I guess we'll see.

It's a part of every society I've ever encountered. The amount of people who trivialize the lead up is astonishing and it happens at every socioeconomic tier or cast. If it was contextualized within the story as a bad thing, something that was wrong, I wouldn't be complaining. But this show consistently poses these behaviors as romantic. Ugh!

Oh, I'll grant you it's not the most adult thing.

But unlike you, certain people are unable to accept that those of us who find fault with the show have a right to our opinion too. And when that begins to involve things like people piling up and shitposting about our right to be here or others insulting our viewpoints based on our stances on social consciousness, and then some people aggressively addressing us with patently ridiculous challenges for our straight forward definition of consent--well, it can all pile up and cause a person to slip out the occasional sassy insult. Ad Hominem is not my go to, but I am only human and it does happen from time to time.

I agree with you that the adults in their periphery made the framework for the possibility of this problem by placing roles on both children (not just Lian) that set this toxic relationship up. But I disagree on how much latitude Lian had. The toxic outcome was all Lian's choice. There were options available to Lian that had nothing to do with controlling Kuea or treating Kuea with such contempt. There were certainly choices available to him that did not involve the toxic manipulations.

He could have taken the responsibility laid on him and gently involved himself in Kuea's life, as a partner from the very beginning. Kuea returned from England and staid there specifically for Lian and yes he was hiding his art and his love of racing bikes, but that's hardly a reason for the level of malignant behavior we're seeing from Lian. He's under not pressure to stop these behaviors of Kuea's. He could have chosen to accept those parts of Kuea that are hidden from him to encourage more openness between them. Instead Lian treated Kuea like and object in need of fixing and saw himself as a control mechanism. That's all Lian's choice.

And if Kuea's parents were even the smallest bit in the know, they would probably end the engagement themselves. Yes, they would be highly upset to hear about the double life Kuea leads, but they'd be horrified at Lian's tactics.

Kuea's family put Lian in place as a protector. How he interpreted that role was largely up to him.

Now, I realize this is just my take on things. And it's pretty futile to track forward because we both know they're going to shove all this under a rug and go "See! Love fixed Lian and Lian fixed Kuea!" But I choose to give Lian the same credit I gave Kuea. Which is that he is an adult capable of choosing right from wrong, able to explore their relationship in a compassionate, respectful way if he chose to. And unfortunately that's not what he chose to do.

Oh, the insulting is both sides of the fence there.

It was that and leaning into Sin's space in an intimidating way. And then yes, touching him without permission!!! I am not sure what this show is even doing?
