So I know I am late but I just want to say about the drama series ending and I finally finished reading the novel today lol so I wanted to talk about that too.

Overall I really liked the drama series it was concise stuck to most of the plot points in the novel and directed and acted beautifully. I hope to see a season 2 IF the sales of the DVD and fan book go well in Japan (fingers crossed)

I watched the anime version of The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window all at once and really liked that version so I decided to watch the live action version too.

I will say overall this movie version is very disapointing. Mostly because there was'nt enough time to develop all of the characters and the stories plots that the manga/anime had. I agree that The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window is better off as a series.

The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window as a whole overall is confusing because this series is about ghost/curses with BL innuendo/metaphors but without the BL romance in it. But more focused on the ghost/cruses rather then the relationship of the two main character.

That saying I can understand that the movie version removed the BL innuendo completly but too bad the movie lenght harmed it and could'nt even develop the bond between the two main characters. I will say one good thing about the movie and that is how much gorer and bloodier then the anime, the ghost CG effects was really cheap but the body murder and curse massacre was really impressive.

Overall I would say to watch the anime version of The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window instead of the movie, it's 12 episodes and has a bit more time to flesh out the characters and story plot lines. Plus the BL innuendo that was not in the movie version is present in the anime version (even though it's super weird)

I have not read the manga but I am still going to watch the series just to see the chemistry of the two main characters. BL or bromance or not as long as the story is good and the chemistry is good.

MAYBE the TV producers might make tweaks to the original manga similar to what happened to Zettai BL VS (which was also not really a BL story but a meta comedy about BL) and they managed to put a BL sub plot romance into the drama. Not that I wanted to happen in this drama series, I am just saying it might happen but I think it will be unlikely.

Still from watching the trailer alone I am exicted. I am looking forward to watching a crime/thriller drama with some bromance/BL bait.

You have to understand that this series is'nt BL focused at all. I hav'nt watched Bite me or My sweet dearbut it's unfair to compare BL focused shows to a slice of life show with a gay character in it. It's like comparing apples to oranges.

If you said you did'nt like this show because of it's odd pacing/ changes to the original story then I would of agreed with you.

If next episode is the last one then this series is super rushed. I would understand that users did'nt like the show because the pacing is all over the place and not because there's a lack of gay romance (it's a given the original story barely had the BL romance too)

Too bad this series came out at the end of the year when it's being overshadowed by the flood of other backlogged shows being released at the same time. It's sad to see little hype on this show. While it's not the best show of 2021 I think it's not that bad.

Wow just decided to check up on this series, and I am just suprised that not many of the users like this series. I kind of like this series but it's not perfect.

I said this many times before but Baker Boys (antique bakery) is'nt really a show that focuses on the gay romance and hence is not really a "BL drama" per say. It's a slice of life drama that has a gay character and his story line does have the gay romance in this which is why I assume the tag says it has gay romance.

I think what I like about Baker boys is the chemistry of the 4 main characters. Out of the 4 I REALLY loved Pluem (Krating) and Foei (Pooh) the most. Pooh is really the clumsy character I loved and Pluem really suprised me with his acting and chemistry with the other 3 characters. To a degree I really liked Shingto as Weir I though his character was done well. I acutally think Lee as Phun was the weakest because I personality think he does'nt have enough charm compared to the korean version.

Then again I think the producers went overboard with the murder/mystery part of the story because it's really does'nt mix with the slice of life happenings with the cafe. It changes pace from serious mental issues of the kidnapper and then back to the light hearted parts in the cafe/punn's house. I swear the originally story did have this plot point but it was shown in small parts.

I am also surprised at the slight changes they made with some plot points for example with Jean (in the korean version I swear Jean was'nt married and Jean and Ono kept breaking up and making up so their romance was'nt perfect)

Hopefully the drama is popular enough for a English translation release of the novel, again Behind the scenes (the novel based off bad buddy) got translated into English and release so maybe one day Utsukushii kare gets released and translated into English so more people can read it.

I only heard that Nagira Yuu other non BL novel is getting a live action movie. She does other BL novels as well because I recongise the covers of some of them. I think she must be a well known novelist in Japan.

I'll be honest, I've never heard about the novel until the drama got announced. It was'nt also until after the drama I researched more about the novelist.

There's like other manga/novel I wanted to get adpated. Again this is not a bad thing just wanted to say picking source material to be a drama is a good thing it brings the novel/source material in question into the spotlight even more.

To tell you the turth I am sure no one outside of Japan has heard about the novel before if not for the drama adaptation. Now that the drama exists there's lots of international users wanting to read the novel and many new Japanese people buying the novel and supporting the actors surely they will continue to buy the photobook and DVD to support this very small niche series.

I think this is a beautiful thing for the producers to decide to pick this unknown novel series to be chosen to be turned into a real life drama. I mean maybe nagira yuu is known to Japanese people (one of her non BL novels is going to get a live action movie) but definitely not to international people like me. Makes me want to buy more of Nagira Yuu other BL novels to read.

I know I mention bad buddy a lot, that's because it's currently airing and causing a craze and constant praise on twitter and mydramalist. I also watch bad buddy and I think it's really amazing because Ohm and Nanon chemisty is natural and electric. But I will say that the fandom is kinda a bit overboard/extreme for me.

So I like coming into the utsukushii kare comments to read a slightly mixed reaction. I am naturally drawn to Japanese culture so I will always try and watch a Japanese series that interests me a lot. I bought this novel to see any differences to the drama and suprised that I do like the narration of this novel.

What I am saying is that I like BOTH Bad buddy and utsukushii kare each series has their own set of charms to them.

I don't mind waiting because the week goes by really quickly and I think about playing Genshin everyday so time goes really quick anyway lol.

I can't help to look at all of the below comments, it's so interesting to see two sides. Just wanted to express on my own feelings

I generally don't care about the subject matter, this is all fictional work (and it is'nt real) so as long as the story has flow and pace then it's good enough for me. Japanese BL drama so far that I've seen being adpated from the source material wants to be the abnormal one wanting to tell stories that are morally grey and not rosey compare to other stories.

There are of course light hearted pure Japanese BL dramas like Cherry Magic and Ketai Hatsukoi that show the happy side of couples and then we have the opposite dark side of Japanese BL like Dangerous Drugs of Sex and Pornographer: Mood Indigo that show imperfect sides to a couple.

Utsukushii Kare is a series that is inbetween a light hearted and dark theme. It tends to lean into the dark side because of soical bullying. I can only think that they wanted to adpat this series because the dynamic/power difference between the main couple is really interesting. From reading the novel and the narration is really good and it wants you to understand these two characters in how they feel towards themselves and each other (lol I really need to finish reading it!)

I wish we can put our own options aside and just enjoy the show as is, of course if you don't enjoy the show you can just not watch it.

I mean I would like to see the producers make a season 2 when they are ready. But in a competive entertaiment world a sequel is made because they are answering the audience request.

The Pornographer series is a good example of this because this series is so niche and it was ONLY because of the audience's reaction/support that they were able to adapt all of the manga into the 2nd season and movie. The actors and producers mentioned and knew this from the interviews I read.

Anyway back to Utsukushii kare it would be nice to see the sequel but you are right let's see how they end the 1st season.

You make some really great points and I agree with them, I still kinda think that in the end the fate of continuing a Japanese BL drama series 100% depends on the domestic sales/tv ratings in Japan only.

It's nice too see that china is very supportive for the series but unless it means chinese fans are going to directly buy the DVD/blu ray/fan book directly from Japan it means little. Because in the end Japanese series are for Japanese people.

As in trending I always thought if I don't see Utsukushii kare on the top ten trending on the main page of twitter then it's not trending at all. I always see Ketai Hatsukoi on the top 10 trending on the main page of twitter. That's how I judge trending.

So while we are waiting for episode 5, I wonder if anyone watches Youtube reactions to their favourite BL dramas?

In terms of Utsukushii Kare I recommend Psynergic, he acutally loves this series and thinks it's a gem (because he also reacts to bad buddy and it seems he likes Utsukushii kare more). His profession seems to be in the physiological field so he gives some really interesting insights into maybe why the characters in this series are like this.

I too I am not too familar with how this series is doing in Japan, but I think I can say I think the reaction is not so great. The series has gotten a little buzz small fandom following on twitter when I go on the hashtag and I've seen a few magazine articles with the actors. Compared to Kieta Hatsukoi this series is very niche. Utsukushii Kare has never trended on Japanese twitter compared to Kieta Hatsukoi which trends on Japanese twitter every week.

Maybe the series is doing better worldwide then Japan thanks to the GagaOOlala platform but if you compared it to say to Bad buddy then it's really is no buzz/hype on Utsukushii Kare.

It's a shame because the series is well produced, but I am positive that this series will get a second season. It only takes a few good sales of the DVD/Blu ray from deicated fans in Japan to get a good response enough to produce a 2nd season.

It's happened to a few niche Japanese BL dramas like the Pornographer series and recently Zettai BL VS ( A Man Who Defies the World of BL) that is getting a second season.

I think this has been answered already, But I wanted to give my views. I think 8 is rather high for a series like this, plus I always see this series trending on the front page so it's doing something right

1st of all this series is very hard to access, I understand that you can watch it via GagaOOLala but honestly most people don't want to pay a service just to watch one series. They would rather watch it on a free platform like youtube (just what GMMTV does with Bad buddy and their BL series).

2nd of all is the actual plotline/nature of the series. The 1st three episodes does have a lot of social issues/bullying and the two main characters have issues. Most BL fans want stories that are harmless and watch for the dymanics of the actors/male pairings.

Personality I think Utsukushii Kare has beautiful directing, the production vaules are high as well but compared to Bad Buddy I think the pairing chemistry is slightly off. It does'nt help that this series is super short at 25 mins and only 6 episodes in total but I guess they are only adpating the 1st novel so maybe in the future they can carry on with the rest of the novels.

Pretty much doing a catch up on episode 3 and 4 because it's so hard to find a place to watch it

Episode 3: I think most of the important events from the novel was in this episode to conclude the high school arc. But the actual "goodbye" kiss was in the novel as well as the confession scene plus hand kissing scene. I think some of the scenes of the novel were remixed to be shown in a different way in the drama. In particular I don't remember the whole scene where Hira is imaging himself with a gun in the novel. If I remember the novel is way more down to earth. But it still showed and developed the relationship between Hira and Kiyoi.

Episode 4: University arc! Koyama is damn cute as he is in the drama and novel. I feel so bad for him he understands Hira and I think he's better then Kiyoi. The events are as in the novel maybe apart from Hira thinking Kiyoi is sleeping with other men (although that scene was smoking hot)

Anyway yay for Kiyoi viewpoint next episode! Gosh I am so lazy I still need to finish reading the novel lol.

Well I SHOULD of expected for the rug to be pulled from under us lol. But I mean the series will still be funny and entertaining as hell. Hell maybe Kikuchi will still have feelings for mob or maybe mob will fight for Kikuchi with Igarashi.

Or just more of the same mob avoiding attractive males or new love interests being formed.

Still looking forward to this series!

I was NOT expecting this at all, but I am looking forward to what happens to mob and his BL world universe. Makes me think if Inukai is going to be busy because he got the other drama KeixYaku as well as this series
