The book does talk about rejection of love, unacceptance, an people who never took him seriously, but the writer doesn't portray himself as angel.
In the novel, ML was not loved by his father, but in story it seems, he misses is father, also, his in influent member. Also, in book, ML is rich, and his depression and problems aren't stemmed from money or poverty.
They did use elements, but it is not enough to say it is based on book.
