The show is truer to the book, the movie is light-hearted and touches on the core issues rather conveniently, its only focused on the ML friendship. The series goes all in and is much more impactful

The bad reviews are from the people who are used to the typical plot based fictional yaoi characters, unlike here the MC is a real flawed human who like any other gay man, makes mistakes and tries to move ahead with his life. This more of a queer drama majorly written for a gay audience and fujoshis are rather going to be dissappointed as it wont meet their expectations of typical ideal male lead. This is more character driven story than a plot based one, and me being a gay man have not found a drama as real and impactful as this ever written in my life. Hope it helps

Its been 3 months since this piece has aired and I still have the scenes portrayed still flashing in my head. The lines cut through your skin like a butcher knife. I have seen it like almost 3 times but have never been able to sit through it in one sitting without a mental breakdown. Hope this reaches a much wider audience to help the society sympathize with what actual problems a gay person goes through in their life, and how much ever they try, things always go in the reverse direction

A bunch of funding came through public funding, and appears it was meant for both gays and mainstream media to actually understand what problems a gay person actually goes through in his day to day life and try to sensitize with them, and imo it very well did the job. It sits extremely well with the conservative South Korean and in general asian society, Being a gay man myself I have myself gone through quite a few ordeals portrayed and a lot other issues which were very accurately portrayed were legit faced by my friends as was shown, no sugarcoating. Anyway it was based off the book by the writer, so the directors have to abide by the plot

Are you serious right now? The entire theme of the story is the same. Obviously a drama has more time to develop a detailed and robust plotline, but the core crux is same, plus definitely has a bigger budget. 'Main hoon na' was made for the Indian audience that too in the early 2000s. It's like more than 20 years past that
