I think there was supposed to be something wrong with Gene's memory -- remember that he didn't recognise Tum at first either, despite them having been college friends. Tum had to remind him of who he was. But we never got a satisfactory explanation of that, it was yet another thing that was just left hanging.

I get what you mean, except for the thing about Gene and Nubsib's relationship not making sense. To me it is one of the few BL relationships I've seen that actually *do* make sense.

It's changed since I wrote my comment. Fiat Natthakorn was listed as playing Simai, which was not correct, and there was an actor listed who isn't in the show, who is now gone.

Do I have to watch JoJo's Bizarre Adventure in order to get something out of this?

Doesn't the cast listing for this seem partially wrong? Looks like someone added actors before they were confirmed.

It was cute, there was historical costume eyecandy (and man eyecandy) and despite plot holes and other problems I still liked it. Just don't go in expecting much of a coherent plot or things to make perfect sense.
