The story is about letting go the past (in this case hatred, ego and yes his dreams too) due to external things/betrayal/fate…
Oh yes, that part I obviously forgot, so that is a very good addition!

You are always welcome. If you have any questions, just drop me a line.

I never thought of that, because there are still too many people who claim that what I wrote is not true ;-)
There are too many people these days who are too quick to believe gossip instead of reading up on the facts.

I am happy to copy my information where necessary and repost it if anyone is interested :)

If there's anything else you don't understand, please drop me a line. I even summarised two of my Facebook posts in one of our groups, so I have some more real life examples to make it even easier to understand :)

I have now decided to explain some of the facts in more detail to make it easier to understand. So I'll answer again and explain some of the relevant facts😉

First things first:
In China, the most popular danmei are published on the website https://www.jjwxc.net/ (文学城 - Wénxué chéng), which has no age restrictions and is therefore subject to very strict publishing requirements. This is because minors can access the website and read the content without restriction. Authors and books are therefore not categorised by age group, and the Chinese government is keen to ensure that no pornographic or questionable content is published, as there is always a risk that children or minors will access it. To read some of the books, you can try the Google Translate add-in to see if the translations work. It should be noted that Google Translate has learnt a lot in recent years and can even distinguish between names and terms - well, let's just say mostly ...
Any writer can publish their work on this site. Among the best-known authors are Priest with "Stars of Chaos" (Simplified Chinese: 杀破狼, Pinyin: Shā Pò Láng), Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (Simplified Chinese: 墨香铜臭) with Heaven's Official Blessing (Simplified Chinese: 天官赐福, Pinyin: Tiān Guān Cì Fú), Mao Dao Zu Shi with "Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation" (Simplified Chinese: 魔道祖师; Pinyin: Mó Dào Zǔ Shī), Meatbun Doesn't Eat Meat with "The Husky and His White Cat Shizun" (Simplified Chinese: 二哈和他的白猫师尊; pinyin: Èr Hā Hé Tā De Bái Māo Shī Zūn) and others.
As for the explicit versions of the book, they are available on Longma Book in Taiwan - https://ebook.longmabook.com (Simplified Chinese: 龙马, Traditional Chinese: 龍馬), as the website has a clear classification and categorisation of books, and the books can be found in the +18 section accordingly.

Until mid-2022, webdramas were not subject to the strict approval system (there was a simpler system) that feature films and series broadcast on television were already subject to. This has now changed. The purpose is to ensure that productions are of a higher standard, higher quality development and better quality (quote from Deng Boren, Vice President of Bilibili).
After the law came into effect, netizens (especially on Weibo) became very vocal, claiming that BLs were no longer allowed to be broadcast. This is not the case!
In fact, this change affects all dramas, regardless of their background, genre or theme, so it is not exclusively aimed at BL dramas. Furthermore, BL dramas were previously filmed as bromances, which quickly disproves their thesis.

There are basically two versions of all Chinese danmei books. The one that was first published in mainland China and the one that was then released uncensored to the world via Taiwan. Accordingly, the censored version should always be considered the first. These versions would be available to us, for example, through the above website.

What is absolutely not prohibited?
- Graphic sex and pornographic scenes
- Any action below the neck will not be tolerated
- Plastic kissing, such as putting a finger in the mouth, is not allowed.
- Multiple people in a relationship is not allowed
- Incest between blood relatives is not allowed
- BDSM is not allowed
- Forced love, such as holding the person you love captive, doing things to them to force them to love you, is not allowed.
- Bad things like apartheid, discrimination or slander based on religion, race, etc. are not allowed.
- Relationships between animals and humans are not allowed, with the exception of shapeshifters, which means it is okay if an animal can turn into a human.
- It is allowed to write about kidnapping, human trafficking and drug dealers, but these characters must only play a supporting role in the book, they must not have a happy ending and there must be consequences for breaking the law (e.g. the main character must go to jail).
- A relationship between a stepmother/stepfather and stepdaughter/stepson or vice versa is not allowed, unless the stepmother is no longer married to the father or vice versa.
- Dark fantasy or cults of any kind are not allowed.
- Altered military or political scenes or wars from real life are not allowed, but you can simply use a made-up country - as long as it's not from real life it's allowed, e.g. the countries "Pumpkin" and "Pineapple" would be fine as a setting.
- Adults and minors cannot be shown in a relationship, but if the story is set in ancient China, the young person can be 16 to be in a relationship.
- Relationships between teachers and students are not allowed as long as it is a student-teacher relationship - if they meet years later or start a relationship when the student is at university, it is allowed as it is a former student.
- It is not allowed to make fun of, laugh at or say bad things about historical figures or historical events, including the World Wars.
- It is allowed to write about prostitution, but the character must not be the main character, only a supporting one, and the story must show that prostitution is something wrong.

Now some more information about the laws, which may give a different perspective on the subject, regarding tropes etc.
The following tropes or content will not be tolerated:
1. romance between teachers and underage students, regardless of gender (Immortality) - Mo Ran was 15 when he developed sexual thoughts about his shifun.
2. romance between parents and children - here it is not clarified what it looks like in an adoptive situation ("Winner is King" - story between adoptive father and son) - Gu Yun / Shen Shi Liu (played by Tan Jian Zi) and Chang Geng / Li Min (played by Chen Zhe Yuan)
3. romance between siblings - incest
4. pornographic content - this is completely forbidden in any way.

i have a question: since this is clearly marketed as a BL drama and they circumvent the c-ent restrictions and…
No, because these Danmei writers got famous through a Chinese website, where they can upload their novels. The most famous one (it was the first, if I remember right) is JJWXC - Rou Bao Bu Chi Rou is one of them (ErHa). Afterwards they pusblish the book on a Taiwanese website with all the smut. The biggest difference between both websites is, that on JJWXC isn't any kind of age restriction and on the Taiwanese one there is. Therefore in China it get's censored. At least that is what a Chinese Danmei writer once explained online.
Furthermore Weibo and Douyin is full of BL content ;-) what would happen with all these ppl uploading it?

And there is no actual ban which is specifically for BLs. They only adapted existing rules from the movies and applied them for the webdrama. Until 2022 they didn't needed to go through the scrict screening system like e.g. dramas which are shown on television. But since 2022 the same system applies to all kind of webseries - that is the red loong which you can see in the beginning of every drama.
The change applied to all kind of dramas and therefore even older straight dramas needed to reobtain the distribution licsense or neede to have a negotiation with the NRTA.
I could go into detail and explain some of the rules, but then it would be a very very long post ;-)

I have iQIYI and there are 40 episodes.
That happens a lot on the website on iQIYI ;-) You just need to jump to the next episode. For me either on WeTv, iQIYI or Youku are missing episodes or trailers. So I know the issue. But like I said, you can jump to the next one usually without any issues ;-)

The story is about letting go the past (in this case hatred, ego and yes his dreams too) due to external things/betrayal/fate…
Let's start with the definition of the word "beggar":
person who begs, lives from begging - 'the beggar sat by the roadside'
'to ask for alms, to beg', ahd. betalōn 'to beg, implore, beg' (9th century), mhd. betelen is an iterative of the word group discussed under beten and bitten (see above), originally 'to ask repeatedly', usually for alms.
A person, typically a homeless one, who lives by asking for money or food.
To help us understand the word 'alms', here is its meaning:
small amount of material support for a needy person. translate: payment for a service that is perceived as too low/unjust.

Since Li Lianhua is a travelling doctor in the series, none of these things apply to him. He doesn't beg others for money on the roadside - he doesn't get alms.
If it is said that his achievements are too low or perceived as unreasonable, it can also be clearly stated here that this is not the case. Even in ancient times, doctors were highly respected, regardless of whether they were travelling doctors or doctors in permanent practice. So that doesn't apply to him either.

A beggar doesn't have a house - he has a travelling house, which was quite large by the standards of the time and fulfils all his necessary needs. Note: He even has a guest area.
He grows his own vegetables so that he can feed himself, which was quite common at the time considering the era. Even today, people with a house grow fruit and vegetables because they find gardening relaxing.
He doesn't beg for money, but earns it through his work as a doctor.

If you consider that he travels a lot, he is not as poor as you might think, because even in ancient times "travelling" was relatively expensive and a beggar could certainly not afford it - a beggar would not have been able to book a room in a hotel to spend the night there or would have been able to maintain a travelling house. This was primarily the privilege of the middle classes as well as the rich.
Even a normal person would keep their money together to make sure they had enough on the side at all times. He is simply very, very stingy - which also applies to the Swabian people, for example.

The character in the drama has chosen to work only enough to make ends meet. To quote an Italian proverb:
We work to survive and not for work.
Everyone defines a dignified life differently and in the second half of Li Lianhua's life, he understood that you don't have to be rich to be happy. You don't have to be powerful either, but enjoy life in the way that is right for you.
Therefore, this is his free and conscious decision to lead a life as a travelling doctor. It gives him the opportunity to go where he wants to go, to help the people he wants to help. This has given him a peaceful and fulfilling life for 10 years.

Even in this day and age, there are people who decide to leave the hectic life they led before. But that doesn't make them beggars just because they don't have a fixed residence. Some choose to live off the land and subsist on what the earth gives them, but that doesn't make them beggars either. They live a lifestyle that is simply different from what society considers ordinary and normal. But what is normal?
When something happens to people in life, they make decisions that deviate from the norm because they don't want it to happen again. Through such life experiences, a person grows and such situations also ensure that we remain grounded in everyday life and do not become overbearing or arrogant.

Yes, he became terminally ill, but not because he wanted to or because his body betrayed him, but because he was poisoned by a human being. But still, the character decides not to take revenge (although many would), but forgives the person and says to himself, then I'll live life as I please. His newfound/old friends do everything in their power to find an antidote. He makes a deliberate decision not to take the antidote, but to give it to someone else who needs it more. This is called "being selfless", as here too he consciously decides to save someone else and not himself. Nevertheless, his friends continue to do everything they can to ensure that he survives, and he does. He has friends who would sacrifice anything for him, which is the perfect form of a relationship, as they see each other as soul mates and understand each other only with looks or few words.

The story is taken from real life, by the way, because there are enough stories in which people have been betrayed by those closest to them. There are people who decide to take revenge, which equates to darkness, and there are people who grow from these situations and decide to look at life differently (the light). I assume you are too young to understand this. Because between you and me, everyone gets trapped in some kind of situation in life that can get very messy - regardless of whether you are rich, middle class or poor.

The end of the drama is not the scene where he sails off into the unknown. Watch the special 😊

Wishing someone misfortune in life is just wrong. Never forget that karma comes back to you threefold.
