It's been brought up that Fugui's lack of reaction to QT's death is questionable, which I would like to bring up an obvious reason that was overlooked.
When he killed her, Fugui wasn't using the umbrella that clears his mind. He used the umbrella when Rumu died again, so he's sober and leads to him crying. He didn't use the umbrella when Qing Tong died, so he's not clear-headed, is under the influence of black fox more, and has more hate. In fact, he's probably doing his best to restrain himself, even then his eyes still reddens. That's probably the only way he can execute the action; in that way he demonstrates a lot of affection towards Qing Tong. If anyone noticed, when Fugui does truly morally odd things, he doesn't use his umbrella.
I wouldn’t call this a tragic love story… bc WQFG didn’t love her at all. He cried for RuMu and his father…
I think you're forgetting that he wasn't using the umbrella that he put the cleansing talisman on. He used the umbrella when Rumu died again, so he's sober and cries. He didn't use the umbrella around Qing Tong, so he's not clear-headed, is under the influence of black fox more, and has more hate. That's probably the only way he can execute the action; in that way he demonstrates a lot of affection towards Qing Tong.
Cheng Yi did his best with this drama, he's the saving grace of this drama and the reason why I'm still here. No matter what happened, he tried his best to maintain the core of Wangquan Fugui even if it meant disagreeing with the crew to the point of being sidelined on the set and in the drama.
Since this drama is finished, let's meet in the next drama with a new state!
Fugui! Fugui! Fugui! Important stuff must be said three times! Haha, I always enjoy his scenes (though there's not much....), such a lovely, supportive, smart character.
Please do not come at me in full force! I absolutely loved Love in Pavilion! I have rewatched the drama so many…
Hm, I think it's just up to personal perception, I personally thought Fugui was super sword-like in the earlier parts and super human-like after he left Wangquan manor. I was kind of surprised how human Fugui is now. He's just relatively restrained, reserved, and cold due to his upbringing.
The real issue is that he doesn't get enough screen time, the second half was majorly dominated by side characters since the later parts adapted the sand fox's arc (the side character's arc).
Fugui Shaoye! I'm really happy that you're a smart character who has trust and understands things very clearly, you are this drama's saving grace haha.
At least, Hongye is better than the rest. The only negative thing about him is that, he didn’t show much love…
I didn't say anything about you saying his abuse is “right or unfair" either? Stop putting words in my mouth and please read my message more carefully. My entire point is trying to explain why he is an abuser. My point is that he was an abusive parent to Fugui before, and just because he didn't want to take out Fugui's meridian, doesn't mean he changed. I've never said Hongye was an abuser in LiP if that's what you're thinking.
The "losing everyone+DFHZ" scenes are the most relevant to this situation and explaining Hongye's motivation. Also, SaB is a standalone, you should be able to watch this drama and make judgements even without previously watching the other dramas, meaning they do provide the relevant important information, the fact that I watched the og donghua just helps me understand Hongye even more. Anyways, one's backstory has no relationship to determining whether or not they are abuser or not, it only serves as an explanation for their action. I don't quite get why you keep on bringing it up. What you should look at is their actions and how they treat a person, and for Fugui, it's fairly obvious he's an abusive parent. You can look at it this way, how can Hongye's backstory prove he's not a bad parent? It can't. Because it only explains why he is the way he is, and that's it.
I was just trying to give the trio a funny name and the only common point is that they all have bad dads, it's not that serious...You know, I can very well put in the same categories irrespective of their personalities. The categories could be good dad, ok dad, bad dad. It's a very general term that applies to both Hongye and QJT. It's like saying I can't put white chocolate, milk chocolate, and dark chocolate in the "chocolate" category just because their sweetness levels are different.
Let me just ask you one thing, do you agree Hongye is an abusive parent to Fugui? Yes or No? If you do, then we can just end it here. I think we have very different views on life and different logic, I don't agree with you but I respect our differences.
At least, Hongye is better than the rest. The only negative thing about him is that, he didn’t show much love…
Ok there seems to be a misunderstanding. I never he said he liked doing evil nor did I say he's pure evil, please don't say that. I said he's a terrible dad who is an abuser, emphasis on dad. From the very beginning, I was talking about who Hongye is as a parent, I know he's not a terrible person. An abuser doesn't have to enjoy abusing people to be an abuser. An abuser doesn't have to be an evil villain, that's why humans are very complex. They can be so bad to one person but not be an overall bad person. Google defines abuser as “a person who treats another person or animal with cruelty or violence, especially regularly or repeatedly”, no where did it mention you have to be an evil person who likes doing evil.
I agree that poeple's behaviors stem from their experiences, but that doesn't mean he's not an abuser. By the way, the drama is based off the donghua, the trauma you talked about is in the donghua, so I understand his trauma and I know why he's the way he is today; however, that doesn't make him any less of an abusive father. Hongye is many things to many different people, in relation to Fugui, he's an abusive parent.
I grouped him with QJT because they are both bad dads, they are the same in that regard, it's not that hard to understand.
At least, Hongye is better than the rest. The only negative thing about him is that, he didn’t show much love…
Hm I disagree, if your parenting methods and mentality don't determine if a parent is an abuser or not, what does? The way you treat another person defines what kind of label you receive. Neglecting your child, grooming your child, ruining their lifestyle, creating a toxic environment, and physically mistreating your child is pretty much textbook abuse. Hongye, the one who perpetuates that abuse is the "abuser".
Also, I've watched the og donghua before where his backstory was shown, so yes, I know his character well enough to make judgements. Though I'm going to be honest, even if I didn't watch the donghua, I still would say such words because in my view, people's backstory serves as an explanation not justification. Plus, the drama has provided all necessary information about him.
I think the separation is needed. QT needed some time to develop her strength and power. FG literally gave his…
I agree that QT should grow, but some food for thought: Strength is something that you can gain or lose in a blink of an eye. So whether or not a being is "lesser" or not is never determined by their strength, but by their core, self-esteem, and mindset. Just look at QC, he's very powerful now, but he still called himself a lowly demon, showing power can't help you if you're mentally insecure. It's why Fugui has been insisting that Qing Tong has never been lowly even when she was weak and needed his help.
Fugui is now weaker than ever, but would you say he's lesser than Qing Tong who is so strong now?
At least, Hongye is better than the rest. The only negative thing about him is that, he didn’t show much love…
Ah I'm not talking about the meridians, I'm talking about how he didn't do anything when Fugui was pierced by so many swords. From their perspective, it was basically a certain death but he didn't even try to save his own son. On the topic of the meridians though, I only have one thought: the drama really saved Hongye by having Fugui still love him. Once an abuser, always an abuser.
List of Hongye's abuse: - Isolated him from the world -Choked him, whipped and hung him -Repeatedly tried to remove emotions from Fugui (telling Fugui to personally break the wooden sword and tested if Fugui would be willing to kill him) -Didn't provide a healthy lifestyle for Fugui in terms of diet, workload, and sleep -Forced his son to participate in a demon genocide against his will
Not giving your child love and care is an awful sin in itself, but Hongye went even further, I consider it a miracle Fugui didn't turn into a villain. Ah but Fugui does now have self-sacrificial tendencies, which we must thank Hongye for.
At least, Hongye is better than the rest. The only negative thing about him is that, he didn’t show much love…
It's not a bad dad Olympic and when I say "terrible dad" I mean they did a bad job as a dad, emphasis on "Dad". Anyways, if we really want to compare, WQHY mentally/physically abused his son and would let his son die. I think that's more severe than "didn't show much love" and makes a pretty terrible dad. So I think FYF's dad is probably the best, he's a bad person but he didn't really do much to his son.
Fugui was so cool and handsome today where he confronted Qing Cheng! The look he gave him haha, it was such a condescending smile. I'm glad to have him back (just a little sad about his physical condition).
To allow others to shine, you don't need to restrict the protagonist you know. Like I know Cheng Yi is too eye-catching but seriously...
