I knew Quan Rumu was gonna appear soon! And he did. Not a spoiler, just a little theory: I think he'll die on his birthday and Long Weiyun will make his snow for him. This guy just has wayyy too many death flags for me to ignore.
In the drama's other aspects, such as music, special effects, and cinematography, I think they're pretty well done. The background music in episode 12 suited it so well and I like the song they played when Qing Tong danced. I think it was called Dreamscape or something like that. The special effects kinda was too much at one point, though it's still nice I suppose. Overall, I really loved the way they shot this drama, there were some parts they could've done better, but yea, the cinematography and the music made me feel like I was watching a movie.
I'm just so happy today, and I think our dear couple is too
In episode 13, everything was so sweet and relaxing until the last moment but I'll just ignore that until tomorrow lol. Ignoring problems is my path!
I love Fugui's styling after he switched his outfit, it matches very well with his current state. His hair was let down and loose, and his clothing was also very loose. Obviously, the drama tried to match up the fashion with the character development and I appreciate that so much. Fashion is such an important language when it comes to dramas. This is why I like Stellar Productions so much, their sense of style is always interesting. I think it fits the anime vibe very well actually.
Uh back to the plot. I think this episode is when Fugui feels most human to me and it's also when the romance is kicked up a notch. In episodes 1-5, I kept on feeling like WQFG really felt like a "sword" rather than a human; in that sense, the drama's title matches him well. I don't even think the title of soldier matched him because soldier still has humane connotations but WQFG just felt so not human, especially since people around him likes to objectify him. Now in this episode, Fugui has finally broke out of the Wangquan Manor and can be free. I don't doubt he still thinks of his family, but literally just look at the kid. He's so alive, just like Feng Tingyun mentioned back in episode 12.
I'm a bit curious in which direction the plot will proceed since the donghua content is almost running out. Currently, I'm assuming Qing Tong's plotline will be expanded on more, and I'm calling it right now that Qing Cheng is going to be a villain. The black fox will get to him. Then I think Rumu and Fan Yunfei should be entering the plot anytime soon too.
In episode 12, I would first like to thank Feng Tingyun and Fei Yeye for not pissing me off. They're a bit muddle-headed at times, but they still have a solid moral compass. I watched the original donghua before and I remember Feng Tingyun being a very nasty character, so I'm quite happy she's so much better here.
Next, I would like for Quan Jingting to die a miserable death. I think I've cursed him out a million times in the span of a few minutes. Wangquan Hongye too. Quan Jingting already had a conclusion in mind and only tortured Qing Tong for the fun of it, what a piece of work. The Wangquan family people are also illogical for just standing there and watching.
But most importantly, I loved watching Fugui and Qing Tong and their story. Qing Tong is so strong, perhaps not in sword skills but in heart. She did very well, a very sweet spider (I'm sorry but saying sweet spider kills me I HATE spiders). Li Yitong also acted so well, I've never finished a drama of hers but I always knew she had skills. It's also a bonus that she's insanely pretty and cute, I would love to make her clothes to accompany her good looks.
As for Fugui, I like how he has his own life outside of romance; this drama does very well in making sure the main couple can stand as two separate people. Cheng Yi was also so good looking! I loved him in his black-dragon outfit with blonde hair. I loved it when black-outfit and black-hair version Fugui carried Qing Tong to the bed, fell to his knees, and stared at Qing Tong. It was so intense omg.
I love today's episodes!! I'm literally not doing my work just so I can catch up... haha all for our dear Fugui and Qing Tong
In my opinion, I think the theme of this drama is to develop your own independent thoughts and paths rather than just accepting whatever the world tells you. The demons and humans are just another way to express it in a fantastical fictional method, creating a divide from real life but it still applies.
I've seen both but the matchmaker verse is worse since it's so bleak and everyone keeps dying.
Haha you're not wrong, but I think having WQFG and QT makes it very sweet and hopeful. They're young people trying to carve out of a path for the kind in this dark world.
Not sure if anyone here has ever watched Natsume's Book of Friends or Mushishi, but this drama really reminds me of those two. Natsume's Book of Friends is a very healing drama that talks about how the protagonist learned to understand and care for demons despite them being the root of his trauma. Then Mushishi's world and tone seems bleak but the protagonist is a detached but kind person who brings warmth. All three shows are best described with the word atmospheric. I don't really remember the plot but I do remember the feelings it left me with.
Despite Xiao Mingming/Xiao Qiushui dying in the end, I actually feel pretty content since he fulfilled everything and died peacefully with his friends by his side. Moreover, Mingming only died after he heard that Li Nan received retribution, as if he knew his purpose was achieved. Am I the only one who feels like this?
It was like fireworks, his life may have been short but it was very beautiful and explosive.

Ratings literally are so exhausting
For future viewers, reviews/ratings are nice but, if you can, watch the drama and make your own judgement.

Best couple until the end.
