I’ve been in many fandoms, including stories that deal with themes just as dark, if not darker, than this one,…
The irony is that many of these people kept talking about empathy and morality while showing very little of either toward real people.

I’ve been in many fandoms, including stories that deal with themes just as dark, if not darker, than this one, and I’ve rarely seen this level of hostility.

The saddest part is that this story offered so much to discuss, yet the fandom reduced every conversation to a moral purity test.

People should have been able to discuss the writing, the adaptation choices, the characters, the relationships, and the themes without being personally judged or morally interrogated.

I hope I never run into this kind of behaviour again in discussions about dark romance, because it completely killed any possibility of meaningful conversation.

The new trailers are extremely sweet (except for Yi Chen Junior being Yi Chen Junior 😂), but I need to know why Lu Feng was having an existential crisis while staring at himself in the mirror 👀🤔

Especially here on MDL, if you try and share your opinion on what you think makes LF tick, you are very quickly…
Yeah I don’t know what happened but it has become really problematic to share an opinion on here

I would say that reminding of moral values is good so that no one forgets that this is not acceptable IRL but…
I actually agree with you. To me, platforms like this should be places for discussion, and if we’re here, it’s precisely to exchange different opinions and perspectives.I don’t need people to agree with me, and honestly I don’t care about being right.

I just want to be able to express my opinion (whether it’s positive or negative) without being personally attacked for it.

In this comment section specifically, I’ve seen some pretty serious accusations being thrown around. People have been accused of justifying rape or even having mental disorders simply because they enjoy the series or have a different interpretation of a character.

Personally, I find that unacceptable, and that’s what I meant when I said that this comment section has ruined part of the experience for me. Not the disagreement itself, but the way some discussions immediately become personal.

Thank God this series is ending, because the moral police have genuinely ruined the experience for me. I’m sure I’m not the only one who just wanted to share an opinion in peace without being psychoanalyzed over their feelings about FICTIONAL characters.

What if I dislike the brother? Should I get your approval first? 😏

People are allowed to have different opinions on fictional characters. Calling it “weird” when they don’t agree with you, and saying you’re “concerned” by their reasoning, comes across as far more judgmental than simply disliking a character.

At the end of the day, it’s fiction. Nobody needs permission to hate the brother, love Lu Feng, hate Lu Feng, or hate them both.

Day is WAY worse than Lu Feng and many other characters, yet I’ve never seen this level of outrage about him…
Day kidnaps Itt because he believes Itt is responsible for harming his brother and wants revenge. He deliberately targets him, takes him to his house, and keeps him captive. While Itt is imprisoned, Day subjects him to repeated physical, verbal, and sexual abuse, treating him more as an outlet for his anger than as a person. Over time, Itt develops a traumatic attachment to Day, which is why many readers compare their dynamic to Stockholm syndrome. From that point on, their relationship becomes deeply codependent, with both of them unable to let go of each other despite the abuse and damage that formed the foundation of their bond.

Yeah he’s toxic and obsessed and he will never change 🤷🏼‍♀️
That’s why I said that there isn’t a redemption arc for him. Because he won’t be able to better himself

I completely agree with you.

To be honest, this comment section has genuinely made me enjoy this series less. Not because of the story itself, but because it feels impossible to discuss the characters without first adding a hundred disclaimers.

For me, some things are obvious. Condemning rape and abuse should be obvious. It shouldn’t have to be repeated every two seconds just to earn the right to talk about a character’s emotions, motivations, or psychology.

Yet every day I see people being accused of supporting Lu Feng simply because they’re discussing his POV or trying to understand what goes on in his head. That’s absurd.

This is the first time in my 29 years of life that I’ve felt unable to freely discuss a fictional toxic character because of the judgment of other viewers. And honestly, it’s ridiculous.

What I find ironic is that some people spend all their time criticizing Lu Feng for being toxic, manipulative, and aggressive, then turn around and attack real people for having a different interpretation of the story. They dig into the psychology of a morally grey character while simultaneously behaving in an aggressive and verbally hostile way toward other fans.

Day is WAY worse than Lu Feng and many other characters, yet I’ve never seen this level of outrage about him being a certified rapist.

And honestly, I’ve never seen the comment section of Love Syndrome become as toxic as this one. People disagreed, sure, but they weren’t attacking or insulting other viewers.

I have started to hate Lu Feng. Nothing about the hospital scene made me feel anything for him. He was saying,…
I don’t want to defend him, and it bothers me that I have to put a disclaimer before saying anything related to this series.

But I don’t think he meant “please wake up so I can do it again.” In the whole hospital scene, he was admitting that his revenge had lured him into a state of psychosis, and he acknowledged that it was all part of a plan to make Yi Chen pay for how much he had suffered. At that point, I think he just wanted him to wake up because he missed him.

That said, Lu Feng CLEARLY has problems. The first one is that he’s obsessed and he can’t let go of that obsession.

Also, I don’t think the story wants to redeem him. I think the story wants to show us the darkest side of love. He will always be a little manipulative and obsessed, and that’s part of his character.
