I totally agree. I don't understand people who blame Li Ni for that. Blame those who were actually responsible…
I also agree.
Those people, when the episodes were airing, posted here on MDL saying that Li Ni's brothers took action because of FL's father's memorandum to crown Li Ni as the crown prince. It was laughable.

The were even those who blamed FL for this, saying that her pushing Li Ni to be the crown prince caused this tragedy.

I agree! They even won an award together. I would love to see them in a republic-era or modern drama (with a good…
I vote for Republican-era drama. They have both starred in successful Republican-era dramas before and were wonderful in them.

Oh, I think I forgot to mention something after my binge rewatch of the drama; I haven't fast-forwarded a single second (well, except for the opening and the end credits) of the drama even though I was watching it for the second time. That is an indication that this is a very good drama.
In a world where we watch most c-dramas by fast-forwarding quite a lot of scenes, even during our first time watching, it is refreshing to come across a drama like WOL.

Fantastic, i loved it. They were together from beginning to end, none of this slow burn bs. Misunderstandings…
Totally agree with regards to the SML. If only they did not have that OST especially dedicated for the SML in the drama, it would've been absolute perfection.

It's the Viki subtitles. WeTV had them as Lords. This is based on my knowledge on reading quite a few chinese novels…
He seemed to have addressed Li Ni as "Shiqi Ge", which means Seventeenth Eldest Brother. Is it on YouTube? Maybe they just simplified it to just "Brother".

This FL is fabulous. And she’s no less conniving, seemingly disloyal or sneaky than the ML. It does seem weird…
Alright, agree to disagree.

Viki is indeed very good. It seems they are going back and making edits.

First 20 or so episodes had very good subs.
Mr. Seventeen is, in it's own way, correct translation to Shiqi Lang. Shiqi means 17. Lang means Young Master. The most accurate translation should be Seventeenth Young Master, which was what Viki had it subbed as for the first 20 or so episodes. Someone below mentioned that Viki subbers are going back and making edits to subs for all WOL episodes.

Why are they calling the prince's Kings?
It's the Viki subtitles.
WeTV had them as Lords.

This is based on my knowledge on reading quite a few chinese novels taking place in ancient china:

The Chinese character 王 (wáng) can be translated as both "prince" and "king", and its specific meaning depends on the context in which it is used. In the historical and political context of ancient China, the title "wang" was used to denote both princes and kings.

The sons of the emperor were often given the title 王 (wáng) when they were ennobled. In this context, it is equivalent to "prince". These princes were members of the imperial family and held a rank below the emperor.

In the feudal system of ancient China, there were vassal states or subordinate countries within a dynasty. The rulers of these states were also called 王 (wáng), and in this case, it is translated as "king". These kings were local rulers who acknowledged the authority of the emperor but governed their own territories.

Additionally, there were instances where the emperor's sons, upon being ennobled as wangs, were given control over a specific region or prefecture. In these situations, they functioned more like kings, governing their own territories with a degree of autonomy.

So, depending on the specific historical and political context, 王 (wáng) can refer to either a prince within the imperial family or a king governing a vassal state or a designated region.

In WOL's case, Wang should be referred as Prince in the subtitles, because the emperor's sons, who are ennobled as Wangs, are living in the capital.

I don't agree with you that FL can't match ML's intellect. The negotiations will still go through as usual, both sides will get their desired benefits. FL pulled this tactic to get even more benefits. As the person above said, this is war, and the both of them are at the opposite sides. And as they say, all is fair is love and war.

bts of them riding horses https://twitter.com/sosokaige/status/1735887975945482571
After watching this video -- No wonder, most of Jing Tian's horse riding scenes in the drama are faked lol. Some of Xu Kai's horse riding scenes are also faked... like when they were galloping in the woods near the stream.

they want devoted perfect FL but at the same time will love toxic ML.
The author/screenwriter of this drama had written quite a few toxic MLs in her novels before. I think you may recognize Li Chengyin (apparently, he's Li Xuanze's descendant, according to the author. Li Xuanze is the Crown Grandson who finally ascended the throne after Li Ni abdicated) from Goodbye, My Princess drama. That is a very good example of a toxic ML.
I'm glad that the author finally saw the light and wrote a good ML with a happy ending for this drama.

watching the trailer, and suddenly remembering that yang zi and xu kais characters were friends with benefits…
Interestingly, the drama Xu Kai shot before this drama, As Beautiful As You, was also an adaptation of a novel in which the ML had a friends-with-benefits relationship with a woman when he met FL... His relationship with FL also starts with a fully consensual one-night stand.

In AJTL, Ruyi is seducing ML to have a baby out of wedlock. ML is very uncomfortable. ML has no idea how to court…
I think I veered off on the point I wanted to make in my previous reply.

When I said the people have a preconceived notion of how a strong independent woman should be, I meant that, for people, a FL can be a strong independent woman as long as she isn't stepping on ML or gaining advantage over ML. Let's not forget, the ML here is not suffering any real losses, rather gaining his own advantages.

And you say something about FL and ML relationship rubs you off in the wrong way. You also say that you have only watched until ep 17. If I'm not wrong, although FL and ML were flirting with each other as if they are already together, they are not really together at this point.

It looks like you are projecting yourself as those people who are being "attacked" by us here. You don't like FL's vibe here, yet you like AJTL FL. Cool! However, it's important to recognize that others who you think are being "attacked" by us may not share the same sentiments. So, if you are projecting yourself onto them, then I can see why you are so vexed about this situation.
As I have mentioned before, people have a preconceived notion of how a woman should be. People even have a preconceived notion of how a strong independent woman should be. But there shouldn't be any. Why are we even using the word "strong independent women"? Do we have a similar term for men? No.
All women are unique, strong, and independent in their own way. And I understand that just because you felt that you didn't like a female character who is "strong and independent" doesn't mean that you won't like other "strong and independent" female characters.

I guess people here have differing opinions because the FL here is a lot more nuanced and is someone you can find in real life. She seems like she has real feelings, not just a character created for a script. Yes, she does make a fool out of the ML a few times, but the ML is happy to make himself a fool as long as he isn't suffering any losses -- whenever he gives into her, he makes sure to get his own advantages out of the situation, if you did not notice this.
