This is giving me same vibes as Melting Me Softly... I liked that but still on the fence about this one. I gotta say LMH is my weakest link in this. I've seen other dramas of his and he seems to play the same character in most of them.
Gosh my heart broke for Kang Hee. Just as she was getting a lil bit of happiness with Yeon Suu, she gets slapped in the face by this town, specifically Yeon Suu's mother. For a day in Seoul, she totally forgot their situation and just enjoyed each other's company. I was happy they got that. And just how satisfying it was for Kang Hee's father to finally yellow and give it back to Yeon Soo's mother! If anyone is toxic here, it's his mother!
Since the beginning of the series, I always thought Kang Hee was a major prickly bitch who exaggerated the problem she faced with the gossip and finger pointing by a small town. I love her thirst for independence and her feistiness but was getting tired of the yo-yoing with Yeon Suu. I only understood the extent of her grievances with the town in ep 8. I don't think I ever realised or was even explained by the show that her mother ran off with Yeon Soo's father and that's where the crux of the gossip stems from, not just that she was half cast or her race. So now the rumours are connected to her mother and how she was and they think it's hereditary!!! Albeit the basis of the rumours aren't true so she brought that on herself with all the lying.
In any event, I understand her better now, why she was so desperate to leave, why she's always prickly and seems toxic, why she has that kind of relationship with her father, why she knows she can never be with Yeon Suu. Because as much as she hates his mother, she loves Yeon Suu too much to make him choose between her and his mother.
I was getting disappointed with Yeon Suu at how he always catered to his mother's shenanigans but I understand why now. I'm glad he's finally stood up to her but I doubt this is where they begin now. it wouldn't be a kdrama without a lot of obstacles coming their way, and most probably from Kang Hee herself.
Looking fwd to their journey and I'm relieved the drama redeemed itself for me as I was just about to drop it from all the back & forthing π
Ever since I watched this drama (2016), I have been looking for something similar. I do NOT mean similar plot.…
Try Love Affairs in the Afternoon... yep literally an affair... but it's got what you're after... quiet gentleness of the MC, sad yet heart-warming and the connection
Upon rewatching, I had more ques than when I first watched it: Did In Ji ever allude to having recognised him when she took the contract marriage gig, like Jeong Won confessing to it?
When Jeong Won found out about the hidden cameras and he watched a scene of it, why did he cry when he was watching her cry? I thought I understood it before but now I'm not sure. Was it because he was hurt/angry that In Ji was because of him?
I had to check and I think it's the same screenwriter for this and OSN... the advice given to the single dads by their friends were the same, wouldn't you regret it more if you don't go for it than actually going for it? something along those lines and I think it was a lil node to OSN that the movie was named that ... cute... it was certainly unexpected that Ji Yun 'confessed' right then and there but it suited her characters... I was wondering how they'd resplve the tension and it was a nice touch... it would've been better if he just ran, and took her in his arms with a kiss then hug... but I'll take that hug first too lol
