Finally completely finished the show... and I've changed my views on Zhuang Xu. I was one of the very first viewers to condemn his rudeness and abruptness, rightly so though :) So in this instance, I think credit is due to the actor, Lai Wei Ming, whom I haven't really noticed in other dramas before.
He portrayed ZX with such quiet depth. The restraint in his performance, especially in the moments where he says very little, made the character feel grounded and painfully real. A genuinely moving portrayal.
After his outburst in maybe ep 29 or 30, I could understand all ZX had gone through and his thoughts. May not have been the right way for Xi Guang but he never meant her any harm and all his doing was a product of his own environment and how he grew up, how he portrayed love actually was. I also then appreciated how well Lai Wei Ming portrayed him when he chose restraint over being loud.
In the series (drama age) they met when she was 18, an adult. Irl she was 25 during filming and he was 33. At…
This isn’t about whether she’s old enough to date. It’s about whether he’s professional enough not to! It's interesting how ‘respecting a woman’s age’ always seems to mean excusing the man with power.
I usually would agree but they did have feelings for each other when she was underage and he was a safe adult…
Even if she was 18, the teacher’s authority and power imbalance can still make the relationship illegal under other protections against abuse and exploitation.
After finishing watching, I can say this drama hooked me from episode 3 onwards, but let me down in the second…
same!!! I wish they didn't include a romance between the leads, just be partners in their lil revenge plot... the chemistry between her and the husband was electric, I totally rewatch their moments together 😆
this drama's strengths is also its weakness. the single complaint I see the most in this comment section is that…
No plot? I’d say the plot is just living life and feeling things. Between career pressures, family expectations, past regrets & trauma, and the slow burn of their relationship, there’s plenty happening — it’s just not screaming ‘twist!’ every 5 minutes.
In her mind, choosing a path where she is not allowed to stand beside him = abandonment. And she could never forgive him for that.
