I think even if Jihoo's father is lying about Kyeongil past, I found him strange too. And even more strange because why does Joonhee easily accept him? I mean, she has been through a bad marriage before, did she not take her lessons? 🤡
It's rarely to found a drama where the protagonists are smart and fast-thinking, even for the side-kicks (Aeri's bff), and they are just ordinary people, not a police/detective. Love that for them. The only annoying (good) character is Aeri's mom.
The trouble with the whole controversy from my perspective is that those who started it don't believe that people…
"The thing is Koreans shouldn't be worried people are going to get the wrong idea" who are we to talk? Lol. It's not our fault yeah for not holding the same historical value like them, because everyone, every people in all part of the world share different sentiment.
Last time SBS got cultural appropriation backlash from intl fans because their characters having dreadlocks. Another time when they were disrespecting Indonesian badminton. Why should Indonesian or intl fans in general be so worried regarding those issues so they send backlash and demand apology? Even knetz also blamed SBS for keep doing stupid move. Isn't it the same with SD? It's all about political correctness and misperception.
So I don't get why we should ask them to not feel whatever they feel, to express their worry, concern or even their rejection? When it touches more sensitive issue, when it's basically a korean drama, told about korean, made and played by korean.
If your problem is about cancelling, like I've said it's up to the production company and broadcaster. They only get the privilege of their voice being accommodated. Heck, countless times korean made their refusals and petitions to abolishing dispatch but they still stand strong. And for drama it isn't the first time either, Mr. Sunshine was accused for being pro-japanese, but unlike SD they managed to prove since the earlier episodes.
The trouble with the whole controversy from my perspective is that those who started it don't believe that people…
Who will later argue, discuss, or debunk the inaccuracies in this drama when it ends? How many non korean viewers who willingly to listen or even mind about that? I've said this, it's likely only to be the noise among Koreans with very limited foreign viewers pay attention to this in the end. And that's one of the their concern: showing korean history to foreigners in inappropriate tone.
I get your point about censorship, but rest assured they can't cancel a drama just because they want to. Those petition and cancelling campaign is like a way to measure public sentiment about certain issue. In short, it's a consumer's voice. Whether we agree or not for boycotting action but the government accomodate them.
However, please note that I'm saying this not to guilt tripping people who choose to support nor I'm insisting to shutting down this drama. My concern all this time, including the one on my first reply, is how us foreigners tend to underestimating their concern, invalidating, or worst saying they're just throwing lies.
Which is related to your question, who are these Koreans? Oh, I use "Korean" simply because it's easier to referring them. But what do you mean by "who are these korean people?" I don't wanna jump to conclusion to think that for you all of this commotion is caused and keep being talked only by non korean. Because it's not true. Asides from korean in social media, you can easily find the official news about the family's victim, news anchor, or lately the congresswoman who is now running for presidential election who raise their voice for this issue. But you're right, not all korean against it. Not mean to be intimidating but this drama is supported by ilbe people (you can google it what's ilbe).
I found a lot the talk about how kdrama viewers shouldn't glorifying a male lead who is jerk. It's regretted if you found none. Korean were throwing many disagreements for Nevertheless drama afaik. After all, both of them are mutually exclusive. I don't know why you think we shouldn't much worry of the wrong interpretation of a real life group of criminal who killed people and never get their trial for that, since for you there're not much the talk about unhealthy relationship
The trouble with the whole controversy from my perspective is that those who started it don't believe that people…
Can I say the way you say that's just a random church is another example of we can't sense the historical referense the same like Korean did? Because the fact is, it's not only Myeongdong church which held the role in that time but whole entity of Korean catholic church, so it's not a matter which church is being used.
Doesn't seem like a reach? If you're asking me, honestly I don't think so. If it's merely for a "secret meeting point" scene, of all the possible secret place, why do they have to make it a cathedral? It's not just some random kdrama to begin with.
ANYWAY, I'm here not to debating which one of the allegation is true and not true. I'm just asking since many talk about viewers can make up their own mind and pinpoint the part of the drama that might be misleading, so that Korean shouldn't be worry and against this drama in the first place, which I first-handedly experience it by myself isn't always true.
Oh and btw I agree that this hullabaloo is likely ridden by Jisoo's or BP's haters but you must be kidding if you think this is all about hating Jisoo agenda 😂
Scenes with the ex girlfriend and her new boyfriend is the most amusing for me :D
Yess! I thought they would be some annoying characters, turns out they are annoyingly funny. I guess what makes it more interesting is the fact of she's Hyuk ex-gf. They even help him campaigning for the Blue Bird.
The trouble with the whole controversy from my perspective is that those who started it don't believe that people…
"that people can think for themselves even on the level that you're talking about." This statement is interesting, I've seen it a lot, and makes me genuinely curious. I'm sure you don't mean to downplaying the power of misinformation, but how can you know that everyone who watch this, is responsible enough just like you to sort any information they get?
How can we be sure that we share the same understanding as Korean so it would be harmless whatever references this drama shows? Because I don't think we, foreign viewers, eventhough have been consuming other dramas/movies which depict the same historical event, would have the same ability of sensing the historical reference in this drama. And it isn't simply about identifying which sides are bad and good.
For example, when them Korean pointed out the incorrect usage of a catholic church and Sooho, a North Korean, who disguise as a priest, I could be aware the fact of Park Jeong Cheol's death was revealed by catholic church from 1987 When The Day Comes movie, but I'm not aware until yesterday that catholic church and priests have a that huge pivotal role in Korean pro-democracy movement.
Or like the other day, when fans in the internet was praising Hanna character, a NIS agent, as a badass superwoman. That's not entirely the fans fault, they could get that kind of view because the showrunner shape them, and isn't it what Korean afraid of?
If later right after this drama ends and if Korean will again point out the misinformation and the distortion part of this drama entirely, frankly speaking I think the foreign viewers will just take it as another drama's inaccuracies, just like when we watch a medical drama, or will just ignore it at all because truth to be told many of us watching this merely for entertainment, meanwhile for Korean it's not just some random inaccuracy.
Things that get me hooked so far besides the story: 1. The eccentric uncommon group. Consist of the uncle, the nephew, uncle's ex-girlfriend, the ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend, the ex-girlfriend trans dad. Hope all of them are good people until the end. 2. They use professional help for Joonhe
Just one stupid question, in the last episode why did after Yunjae press the airlock button he couldn't get to the room and let himself drown? Is the button manual so once someone press it, the door automatically locked from outside? Would be much appreciated if anyone can give me an answer.
They are called baekgoldan, part of the police. They are in charge to brutally controlling the protesters
The military soldier still wore military uniforms. Baekgoldan was like different enforcement group, not really sure why the jeans jacket maybe for easier mobilization and recognition, also the white helmet is their characteristic. The suit guy probably their higher up or the one who doing the desk job.
