Would be okay if emperor stays in power , ML and FL don't get back together as long as FL gets to travel experience true freedom and pursue what she wants.

This drama has one of the best full fleshed villains in recent cdrama memory so I don't understand the necessity to throw a curve ball and add a charlatan to the mix. it makes the narrative disjointed. I am more interested in the emperor and how the FL/ML will be challenge him .

the emperor literally told him in an earlier episode that he wasn't killing enough people for his liking and he as always made that sad pouty face but acquiesced to the will of the emperor . Implying he WILL kill more people.
so yeah he does KILL and if the number of those executed needs to be high to maintain the brutal bureau image then it is arbitrary.

He has proven to be nothing but a loyal chess piece throughout the show. Feeling conflicted about it (uwu) doesn't absolve him of crimes.

You aren't. I felt the same as well. he is basically a tyrant's lapdog. nothing sexy about that. basically an executioner who knowingly kills/tortures innocent people on his master's command. Albeit feels a little bad about it from time to time. boooohooooo.

I actually agree. he is now my favorite emperor in cdramaland. we rarely if ever have such a nuanced performance in this role in a historical romance. as twisted as it may sound I LOVE HIM .
his presence elevated this drama immensly. he is the second most important character imo after the titled character. the plot moves in huge parts because of his actions.

the way the emperor casually pardonned the shen brothers after he got what he wanted was one of the most sinister things an emperor has done in historical cdramas. , people being insignificant chess pieces can hurt much more than torturing or brutality. seriously the emperor actor is magnificent

This show is a gem . The way every character is multifaceted is intentional. ML could be better though.

I love how FL reacted to ML's "secret" identity. so consistant with her level of maturity and problem solving attidude. she is by far my favorite FL of 2024.

I roll my eyes systematically anytime that is brought up . C-drama writers refuse again to to opt out of the easy route of childhood connections.

I read the comments and I couldn't understand them tbh. he seems to be doing a good enough job here. it doesn't warrant such comments at all.
This is the first drama I am watch him in and I like it a lot.
