the show is purely a battle of wits. most the fighting and war is done behing closed doors. I love how even though the emperor is shown to be quite smart in his own rights . his secret motivations are used by XW to manipulate him. XJN, XW and ZZ are so freaking smart and strategic they never drop the ball.
seriously never a boring second in this drama. usually I fast forward a ton . especially with supporting characters but here I even go back and rewatch to not miss dialogue. this might end up being my fave drama this year (depends on the ending )
Finally watched today 's episodes. Xie wei's scenes in ep 18 were devastating. it will be interesting to see how he will be cured. I like how quick he was to resolve the misunderstanding with XJN. One thing that's great about this show is how transparent leads are with eo.
one of favorite things about this drama is how ML and FL share strategies and put faith in each other. no "I know how to act for your own good and imma keep you totally in the dark and create misunderstandings that last 5 episodes" trope. they both actually have respect for each other's 🧠

I was waiting for this everyday since may. I am loving it . the story the cast and CP personalities. I am very particular about my FLs and MLs and here imo we got one of the sharpest smartest of the bunch. I wish the production was better though.

I haven't read the novel so I wouldn't know but it was clear from that scene where FL lied and said she was interested in antique restoration that she is willing to align herself with his interests to make him like her. even change for him and wonders if she can be good enough for him. seeing his righteous magnanimous self , I agree that most likely he doesn't like all of her. Xie wei likes her knowing how cunning and scheming she is. she doesn't pretend one bit with him.

we must be watching radically different shows. cuz violent? xie wei hasn't even held a sword in his second life. only outburst of violence he had was when he thought FL overheard about his treasonous discussion with his palace insider. and even in that scene he wasnt expecting it to be her. He is a scholar and uses his mind more than his fists. also his ideas are fairly progressive . his ideas about women education are alone enough to make me root for him and are obviously not in line with macho arrogant MLs we got for decades. We haven't all read the novel. People are falling in love with the Xie wei they have watched for 16 episodes. Maybe that changes in the next episodes when we see more of him. he is handsome but zhang zhe is too. so to say that's the reason is weird. I am someone who always loves gentle MLs like the one in Destined , MJTY, Jing in lost you forever. I surprised myself for liking Xie Wei over Zhang Zhu but not because of his supposed "violent" character but because I am tired of tortured broody MLs but Xie wei is much more.
