South Korea entertainment industry is a very competitive place especially for ones in k pop and k dramas industryShe…
"She got the role as she was best to replace JSM" ...actually I'm pretty sure it was the other way around. Go Youn Jung was first to be offered, and accepted the role in AOS; and then as things got started, she pulled out over her own concerns that she wasn't up to it. JSM was cast at the last minute, to replace GYJ. Anywho, I'm a fan. She's fantastic in 'Law School' and 'Resident Playbook', and I think this will be dimpled and charming.
Kim Yeong Ho from Oh My Venus is considered a green flag?? I need to go rewatch the drama cause I saved him as…
I'm a huge fan of O My Venus and have rewatched, too many times tbh. I think the weight issues, bias how many view Yeong Ho.... Apologies if this is a bit preachy about something you've already seen but here goes π¬ ...If you go back to the beginning, he is flirting HARD with her, from the first moment they meet on the aeroplane. He sees her as attractive, from the get go, but notices signs (other than her weight) of ill health. He ends up helping her lose weight, because she forces him to, and for her health, not because of her appearance. And the Netflix subs are NOT great tbh. I feel like there's a bit of subtlety to the dialogue (along with a whole lot of unsubtle swearing) thatβs just not conveyed in the translation. The one aspect of him which puts the green flag into question, is the way he withdraws when he's vulnerable, but otherwise π
Thank you for mentioning "Come and Hug Me". I feel it's become an under-rated classic at this point. But I also feel that Han Jae Yi is the one who deserves the green flag. She accepts Na Mu, for himself, despite his horrific parent. And whilst we're talking about it, I have to mention Kim Kyung Nam for his utterly peerless portrayal of Na Mu's tortured brother. He's a desperately under-rated SK actor IMO! (Totally off topic but Come and Hug Me is for me, the weirdest English translation title for a K-Drama. I can't help but think it makes people skip it, who would otherwise LOVE it!)
My brief and completely incomplete list of other green flags: * The main couples of "Meet Yourself" and "You Are My Hero" (...my city and fortress) Couple goals! *Cha Mi Hyun from "Thirty-Nine". You are my sister...I do not care that you're adopted and cannot fathom that anyone else does! *Kim Dong Sik from "Misaeng". Call it type-casting but Kim Dae Myung seems to have made a living out of portraying the quiet and unassuming, but potently compelling 'Warrior For Justice'; off the back of this role in Misaeng. And *My ultimate green flag for how to do consent on a daily basis... Jiang Shi Yan of 'You Are My Lover, Friend' - Ask your question, then WAIT for the answer, and actually respect and act upon that answer. Hold out your hand to be taken, rather than taking. Move in to kiss but leave a space and wait for the other person to close the gap. Always leave room for the other person to feel safe, and escape if they need to. Show that you fully and completely understand that your partner is autonomous -YOU DON'T OWN your partner, despite your relationship status.
this girl is so so stunning! OMG look at her face card! I can't be bored looking at her all day. I mean she's…
Wholeheaetedly Agree! I hope her agency puts her forward for more movies. I feel like she has so much depth that her talent is a bit wasted in dramas. Her skill is in naturalism/realism. IMO so many k-dramas have that soap opera/pantomime/over-acting style. That's what people become accustomed to; so when someone more subtle appears, they can't actually see it. I feel like she will continue to receive hate, (particularly from international audiences) because of her subtlety, until she gets recognition for a movie project. π€·ββοΈ
Definitely hooked after ep 1...but I will have to FF the Muay Thai/MMA. I just can't with the violence π I usually manage by telling myself it's very choreographed dancing, but it's not working with this show
I don't understand why someone's virginity is treated as something so important to fixate on. Shouldn't their…
Apologies in advance for my small rant... My question to add to this is "What is the definition of virgin"? As Tom says...patriarchy! So yep. Quite possibly MANY people on the planet qualify as 'virgins', despite being 'sexually active', because the sex they have, has never been intercourse between a penis and a vagina.. Legal definitions of what actually constitutes 'sexual activity', are a minefield! And the limitations of these definitions, have been used against victims, by perpetrators. IMO Virginity is a deeply distorted and disturbing social construct, linked with sex as a commodity.
so far it's disappointing, the plot is ridiculous but not in a good way like madam lim's. ep3 looks promising…
This is season 3, the whole 'plot is ridiculous' is a moot point. The central tenet of this, is that the cases are actually taken from real life. The only ridiculous part, is the idea that there's an organisation, willing to come to save you. People trafficking is unfortunately all too real, and is happening EVERY DAY, EVERYWHERE in the world. Including where I live (Australia).
I feel like there must be a ton of bts/bloopers footage for this drama. It's become as much of a focus for me, to watch for the actors breaking character, [e.g. Zhang Chu Han at the start of ep10 π], as it has, looking for some vague clue about the plot. It is just so hilariously compelling in its chaos!
And so the trolling begins again... I have started to think that people are too busy looking at her beauty and just completely miss her expression, and then blame her for being expresionless.
My advice to enjoy Hong Su Zu's acting: Don't just look at her face because she's beautiful, WATCH her face! Her micro-expressions, the tone in her eyes, the movements of her neck. She is very subtle. Perfect for the role in which she has been cast, in Moon River.
I always find it weird that actresses have to lose weight to portray x characters. A person with normal weight…
I agree. It's definitely a problematic aspect of media, the world over. Ho Hum, here we are talking about it AGAIN with ANOTHER article on MDL, focussing on an actor - male or female - losing weight to represent some 'idea' of a character. And of course, that's the actor's interpretation, and it's understandable, but it is absolutely NOT the only way to represent a victim of DV.
I too find it troubling and my view unfortunately often comes down in a negative way towards both the actor and the director/producer - Actor bragging about weight loss...director/producer expecting weightloss, because they're not capable of interpreting and embodying the character in any other way.
Ep 7, scene 1 gives me the weirdest feeling...a tepid, creeping awkwardness π€ If building romance is 'a slow burn' then building awkwardness is 'a slow moist' π
Anywho, I'm a fan. She's fantastic in 'Law School' and 'Resident Playbook', and I think this will be dimpled and charming.

isnt that the whole taxi driver schtick? It's been ridiculous in that way, from season 1
