The comedy to me, seems like a deliberate attempt to create empathy and hopefully compassion, for the characters,…
Honestly I jtst hope it turns out that I'm right, and they aren't just diminishing the mother, as you've said...I have high expectations but it remains to be seen...
In some ways I think the comedy is diminishing the serious aspects? Take Dad for example, him loosing the family…
The comedy to me, seems like a deliberate attempt to create empathy and hopefully compassion, for the characters, who IRL would be AWFUL! AND so that the audience doesn't write them off immediately, but instead, starts to use that empathetic connection with the characters, to question their own habits and choices... Clearly I'm REALLY hoping this Kdrama is clever, and not just try-hard anti-trope.
I feel like kdramas that tackle such taboo topics are hit or miss. I can see your concerns though with the mom…
The single mum is also the child of an alcoholic parent. I think they're already representing a consequence of that, in the characters of the two alcoholic daughters. But I agree, I am hoping for more too!
Lmao. Ikr? I'm checking their ages for that. Lee Jae Wook is 1998. Go Min Si and Kim Min Ha are 1995. Lee Hee…
π€ I'm wondering if it's just that Lee Jae Wook is playing the role of someone older than his actual age...the whole age-gap obsession on MDL really aggravates me, but clearly I am also obsessing over something very stupid and need to touch grass π π€£
This cast is π₯ but can anyone tell me to whom the "Age-gap (real life) " tag pertains? I am genuinely puzzled how such a tag gets approved, when I find it SOOOO hard to get, imo, more relevant ones through π³
It's not even about doing dumb things. Idols can just do normal things and they still get cancelled. All Karina…
Isn't there currently, a kpop idol, getting trashed because he dropped his ear-pods, and...shock horror!..reacted to it!? Agree, living in their world must be EXHAUSTING! I would NEVER want that life for my family.
At first I was a little annoyed at how they changed things from the book but by the end I realized they not only…
That's an interesting take! I had a very different experience. I find myself unable to really compare the drama and the novel, in terms of which I prefer. I like them both, for very different reasons.
I see the drama as being from the same world, but a COMPLETELY different story. IMO it's not a portrayal of the novel at all. The only 'true' portrayals of the novel's characters are Noh In Ji and Um Tae Seong. And even their origin stories are totally different to that of the novel, which kinda fundamentally changes the characters for me.. Otherwise all the others are COMPLETELY different people. For example; the ML, given the name here of "Han Jeong Won", only shares two traits with "The Husband" - being a music producer and having been introduced to NM by his ex-wife,. "The Husband" character in the novel, and the novel in general, are far more progressive in the questioning of Marriage as a construct, and whether it ACTUALLY benefits people. The Husband also has no traumatic back story - he doesn't need one, to justify his views or behaviour. Ergo Han Jeong Won is NOT The Husband of the novel. I like how the drama expands the world created in the novel, but it's not "better than the novel" for me. Sorry that was so long a reply...and so late π
Serious question: at what point do we stop referring to actors as idols? She has been an actress and not a member…
Thanks for putting words to my frustration π I feel like these endless references to kpop, in MDL articles, is like an infestation. There are millions of sites you can go to for Kpop. MDL is a site for Asian DRAMAS. Let the actors be identified as such.
I'm a fan of Falling Into You...Puppy character, strong FL, plus Athletics. ALL my favourites! Totally off topic, but watching Zhang Ruo Nan in First Frost atm, I keep thinking π€ I wonder what a pairing of Zhang Rui Nan and Wang An Yu, and their combined puppy energy, would produce!?!
Currently watching season 15 as it airs in Australia in 2025. I am again, completely hooked by this show. There's no mockery or drama, aside from a cheeky jab from the host from time to time. It's just actually about finding a match. If you love love, this is the show.

So many pun-ny layers

But IMO, Life Gives You Tangerines is a much more interesting topic...
