Being a foreigner I can't perceive the differences well but for me what I have noticed is the songs for mandarin dramas or mando-pop mostly got the same pattern which makes it predictable for me cause they are too much into pathos -see the Goodbye my princess ending theme type. There are exceptions where I thought some creativity were brought such as Longest day in Chang'an OST (main song performed
by Sa Ding Ding is 🔥🔥🔥 for me), I like Joy Of Life opening and ending themes and the drama Whose link I just sent you here. I like the ending song.

The 2003 version was fine. A lot of beautiful ladies and I fell for Jiang Xin when she removed her veil. I liked her pairing with Jimmy Lin. Liu Tao was so charming and Kristy Chung sexy !

And the 1st scene of WXQ walking alone in the desert was really tragic and sad. No more companions nor friends. Everyone dead. Only a jaded and empty WXQ roaming around in the desert.
