A few days ago I was checking on Yunhe latest data (october and November) and I was making a comparison with the dramas' released during the first quarter of the year. It hit me how huge of an unexpected hit "The Double" was. Drama was not only at the top for almost two weeks but certain episodes hit more than 90M views. I strongly believe that, had the PD not dropped the ball about the OTP's romance by episode 25 and kept a 50% romance & ML's character background development and 50% FL revenge balance, drama would have made JOL2 numbers. They were on the way man ! A "The Double" on a decline was making 60/50M views on Yunhe (which is the peak for other"hit" shows this year). Insane for a drama with 0 liulang, 0 sponsor, 0 anticipation before airing.

I like Wen Mo Yan as well.

If I had money I would have backed up Shu Tong, Zhong Xi, Wang YiRan (his facial features give me male Joey Wong vibe), Wang Ge Ge, Yao Yu Chen, Ma Le Jie ect...

Cdramaland keeps falling short cause certain people with money (actors's backers, or nepotism) shut the doors at others really trained and talented actors/actresses. Wang Xing Yue was lucky he was signed by YuZheng soon enough otherwise a boy like him would have ended up in the vertical drama industry like someone like Zhong Xi who seriously trained at acting in Korea. Girl can emote like nobody's business and she dubs herself. And I bet you the same happens to writers or directors even VA who lack backers. I always say ultra
capitalism kills talents. The idolification (idol = more money) of Cdramaland those last few years has not helped either. Chinese people love Wang Xing Yue a lot cause not only is he very young so fits the idol dramaland but he is seriously trained at acting.

Yeah it lowkeye tanked. People reaction to it is cold. It is not the hot smash hit people expected it to be. If anything Love Game became that hit that was expected from Pearl Girl we have to admit it.

Reason why I say "lowkeye tanked". The drama is not hitting. Reviews are not great same about Yuhne numbers. And apparently TV ratings have been lowkeye bombing

Reaction towards it is frozen though. That "hit" is not hitting 🤷‍♂️

After checking Yuhne data again we can say that "The Double" remains Youku biggest success. And the year is ending in a month time. Do you think a youku drama will surprise us soon enough ?

After The Last immortal it seems this one lowkeye tanked. From the overall reactions I gather on the internet It has been overshadowed by that sub-LBFAD "Love game in eastern fantasy"

Story of pearl girl lowkeye tanked we have to admit it. Like reactions are so cold towards it, its numbers on Yuhne aint numbering 😬

The Double was fun to watch even though it was heavy.
And from what I gather Love game is a lesser LBFAD.

Pearl girl drama yunhe numbers are not so great 😑 and from what I read here and there second part of Love game is not as "strong" as the first part. This is like a lesser LBFAD.

After the explosive and unexpected success of "The Double" and after the success of the onscreen pair of Wang Xing Yue and Wu Jin Yan (their CP fandom was leggit strong until her wedding with Hong Yao) it was only a matter of time before YuZheng decides he wants to recreate this experience with his favourite child Bai Lu. And man didn't waste any time. Now my hope is for the drama and characters to be strongly written and directed. Plus it will be WXY second costume detective drama after Calming Wave. I hope boy is smart enough and plays the roles differently and layered. He better not be stiff nor bad.
After this one here hopefully he gets to work in a contemporary drama where he gets to play a goofy youthful and lovely character to explore more sides of his craft.

WXY looks mature reason why people have difficulty believing he is 02 born. About casting from what I heard other older actors were chosen but they rejected it. Yuzheng picked WXY last minute. The project in itself is not prominent and the budget is low and it had 0 sponsor. I assume they thought drama at best would have done as good
as scent of time did last year (above average to sleeper hit). Therefore picking WXY last minute and pairing him with an actress that is 12-year his senior and struggling in her career wasn't too much of a thought since a lot weren't at stake except maybe for reviving Wu Jin Yan career. Therefore I think they did the drama with what they had without trusting WXY and WJY pair would work as good thus without putting too much emphasis on what really makes most dramas work : the romance.

I personally found her acting not so good in MJTY. She looks like she had a sour drink in her mouth the entire time and had that one expression the whole drama. She got completely overshadowed by a more skilled Lu Yu Xiao who acted circle around her and ended up being the true show stealer and winner of the drama. Yu Shu Xin is limited.

Hopefully Wang Xing Yue will keep on working on his acting and challenging himself
