Drama did great numbers on Yunhe (highest number was 90M views) and was #1 there for days. Hit 10000 heat index on youku after a couple of days and sustain that number for the longest time on that platform this year. Wang Xing Yue popularity skyrocketed and his domestic fandom keeps on growing.
Drama is the surprise hit of 2024. It revived Wu Jin Yan career which had been dormant for some time

What I like a lot about Wang Xing Yue growth, I feel that it is organic and not something people wanna push down my throat nor brainwash me into it. This is something we saw it growing and rightfully so. We can see behind Wang Xing Yue years of actual training in acting and no influencer type of energy. Is he the best ? No but is he an actor ? Yes. Hopefully he never stop honing his craft.
Liang Yong Shi is very promising as well. His acting was solid

Thank you my darling. Actually those insights I took them from a member of the cdrama section of Reddit (sorry I forgot about the name) who shared about this back when the drama still airing. And I found it so fascinating it has stayed in my mind and I wanted to share his/her thoughts here to know if people here could also see that side of the production 🙂.

Now I understand more why, despite some incoherences and a low rating at Douban, the drama went on and became a huge hit in China (and we all know Chinese viewers are more strict than the international ones) and the 10000 heat index at youku stayed up for 10 days (almost the whole running time). Even now the drama is still hot months after it ended (and technically better dramas aired later on) : people keep on making videos about the drama over there at BiliBili.

I hope you will also write on how the different locations of the show (the nunnery, the brothel, the Jiang family house, Duke Su house, the princess palace etc...) and the colours or colour's gradings used for these locations were reflecting the inhabitants's psyche and/or roles. This type of technical shooting was used a lot in "Love Between fairy and devil" to display the different cultures of the different groups or ethnics cohabitating in the show's univers (The blood of youth had that strength as well). And that it seems that technic
worked for both shows.

Also I wanted to add, if you remember well, before the drama aired, the trailers were presented to us in a theatrical format. At first I was thinking it was only because the them of "pretense" concerning the characters writing and psyche was the dominant factor of the storyline. But now your insights show it was more than that and the producers went further into it by using different artistic movements from different eras and places to technically shape the product that is "The Double" and the numerous "close ups" (personally I had no problem with that) were done on purpose to further highlight the theatrical flavour of the drama : close ups having the effect of breaking the 4th wall and engaging the viewers in the scene they are watching. Which leads me here : what worked in The Double favour compared to a lot of
other shows is the drama we were served was faithful to its teasers and trailer. Therefore drama became the huge hit it turned out to be (I would say the most impressive hit of the year since we have to look at its budget and its cast).
