I think the forced comedy during the first few episodes threw people off because they thought the characters had been changed and were written incoherent when in reality the characters were putting on a mask to hide their darker self and their real intentions. Plus they said S2 was a downgrade from S1 when actually even last season things really started picking up by teens episodes -I see the same patern with S2 where things started getting serious by episode 8/9.

From my understanding the first few episodes (1-6) were not so satisfying to the viewers that even though things got better people still got prejudice

I mean he had no difficulty getting rid of Ye Qing Mei once he didn't need her anymore
