Maybe because I've read the spoilers about the ending before watching it, I knew what not to expect, but when…
I second this! I didn't feel like any of the deaths were in vain. And the biggest thing for me was how the tables turned where Yetan did the sacrificing this time! Under usual circumstances, Youqin would have ended up doing the sacrificing cos that is what he was meant to do or expected to do. And that makes for a whole load of noble idiocy which sometimes is wholly unwarranted! Here though, it wasn't about that. Yetan felt loved and she felt the need to give because of that. She wanted people who gave her that love and showed her that she was loved to stay alive - not only because she loved them!
And Youqin being so vulnerable despite being such a powerful deity was so beautiful! He didn't reprimand Yetan for giving up her life - he promised her that he would look after himself and wait for her no matter how long it takes. Which goes to show how much he loved and understands Yetan :)
The way Yetan looked at Youqin while he was trying to get her out of the chaos! I felt so many feelings! The genuine fondness and affection she has for him were all so evident in those few scenes. "He came in for me. He is doing this for me. He was always thinking about the world but now, he is only thinking about me. He will save me but if the world is destroyed, he will be in so much pain. He shouldn't be in pain. He's suffered enough pain. " And she knew that he would never hold it against her but she loved him so much that she wanted to bear that burden for him this time...
I cried my eyes out along with Youqin 😭😭😭 He knew what was going on and he knew he couldn’t do anything about it and so, he just focused on what he wanted to tell Yetan and listen to what she had to say and was just so damn heartbroken about it all that I can’t atop crying again 😭😭😭😭😭
