It seems to be a trend. Every time a drama is ending a lot of negativity emerges.
Do you all have a lot of unrealistic expectations? Do you expect perfection? How often does that happen?
Over 90-95% of historical dramas I watch are illogical, bloody and gory and have the worst endings. At least half or more have open ended ending or the main couple if they are alive; all leave their homes. However mostly one of them die or in xianxia dramas have them reincarnate after 500 or 1000 years.
So... this one has the heroine tortured for 17 years and in prison once. The male lead poisoned probably fatal and whipped, slashed and what- not
We don't have the female lead sewing, doing embroidery, painting, writing poems, playing whatever instruments, doing calligraphy or cooking. Yay. Instead she was madame of the house halfway through the drama. Any detailed orientated Chinese citizen checked that the abacus scene was correct?
The editing is great. The pacing fast. The leads have direct eye contact and have an open brutally frank relationship 2/3 into the drama. They are not separated for episodes at a time. No one has lost contact for months or even weeks. No one has visited anyone imprisoned.
There are Emperors involved, inner chamber politics and nobles and officials. And no one is stuck for days in prison.
You guys forgot the basic regular dramas we normally watch? This is a masterpiece in comparison.
I say it again. Do you all have unrealistic expectations or what? Episode 24 is coming up. I am not skipping episodes. Its keeping me entertained. That's the basic thing a drama should do.
Romance? Pish tosh. Go watch a straightforward ladylike, idiotic, clingy, dependent on male, reverse harem drama then. Tons of them around. Look at how many tags this drama comes under on MDL. Romance is there. That is correct. Look at what other tags there are.
' nuff said. This is probably for the new viewers. People who have reached ep 18- 19 and still unhappy should be leaving or about to anyway. At least they watched that many episodes. Plenty of other mundane romance fluff and idiocy around.

Just skip the comments till you catch up. Spoils the suspense. Its up to ep 21 now so you can safely stay away until you catch up. The cliffhangers won't be cliffhangers if you know what happens.

I got irritated by the continual comments about his looks hence the head to toe comments. I am not in love with this actor and don't follow all his works but I appreciate the fact that he looks the way he is and not being a pretty boy does not preclude him from being a male lead. He is a good looking male. He is not ugly- another lot of comments I read this month.
If you bave watched 21 episodes out of 30 episodes you would know if you want to finish this drama.
I like this drama because its not boring. I think the acting is fine in the younger cast and phenomenal in the older cast.
Its not skewed in the romance section but then it hasn't been that way since episode 1.
Plot? Its fine. I will withold judgement until episode 30 airs.
70% of the episodes aired. Watch it or go... if you are that upset. I have dropped at least 3 other Cdramas this Feb and March. I have also not started 5 Cdramas this March because the stories didn't interest me. I didn't want to comment on the drama discussion group itself because I thought the leads were stone faced, the lines trite, the kissing was limp and the ending was just an anticlimax. I also watched another drama this week when the lines were cheesy, the female lead was worse than an airhead and the break up for 5 episodes was absolutely unnecessary.
So yeah its different strokes for different people. You win some you lose some.
If you like it; watch. If you want to see the ending; watch the last episode. If you don't like; drop it. I don't lose sleep over it.
I like fhe male lead. He looks masculine, has a nice voice and is not a walkover. The only thing that is irritating me currently is that he needs dental veneers for his bottom teeth. Other than that no issues. For those with issues.... look; at least it doesn't like he has upper eyelid scars from surgery, no Botox lips ( naturally full lips looks different those with Botox fillers ), no shaven jawline or chin implants, no narrow shoulders, no concave chest and looks like he has pecs, no scrawny arms and age appropriate for his role. He also has a nicely shaped posterior curve vs the flat side/lateral view you see in some actors. And oh yes the lighting must be good or kind because I don't see heavy foundation covering bad skin ie zits. Some of the actors have it. I saw bad skin in a 17 year old actress recently. He also still looks like a Chinese actor vs a doppelganger for a Korean actor. There is a Song Joong Ki look-alike Chinese actor that always distracts me and then the multiple Chinese actors that resembles Korean actors. And oh importantly he at least looks suited for a historical role and his wig/ hairline etc looks fine on him.

I am usually a paranoid drama watcher and wasn't expecting the meal to be poisoned. After all he wasn't going to cook at the inn. And he didn't know which inn. He'll need to bribe the innkeeper then cook.
at 19 it is rather mundane - this drama relies on shock value in plot twists and turns and not good storytelling.…
The problem is I've checked out all the currently airing and just aired Cdrama and there isn't a single drama to watch.
I am watching 3 Kdramas one which is ending. The Glory is at least one with some action. 2 of my Kdramas have no action and one has a male lead who can fignt but everyone else is pathetic.
Yu En Tai who plays the dad has a PhD in acting from the Central Academy of drama.
Ok even the actor looks mild. No wonder he is so believably insane.
The casting for the senior actors is so good.
Another thing which I've noticed .😂😂😂 there is no secondary romance if you call what happened in ep 18 a romance.
However this is one drama where I am not sure if the male lead's 2 guards and her maid will be involved in the plot or not. There has been zero interactions between the 2 people at the lead's side. That includes Cai Jing.
