Smart of them, really.π When so many other Cdramas have been postponed, a drama that glorifies Chinese heritage can have a smooth sailing. Too bad that for western ears it felt too much like brain washing and too little like a script.
After reading the novel, my personal guess is that it's because of the themes of pedophilia and corruption that the Chinese government didn't like.
Sorry I can't help you more, it has always worked for me with some patience.

My advice is to watch the eight episodes available and then read the novel for the rest.
Cliffhanger isn't the word I'd use because it wasn't deliberately done. They just randomly stopped it when they did, regardless of the number of episodes or the storyline. It's an incomplete drama. Imagine a western drama stopping mid season.
I had to learn not to read before I needed to do something because I'd suddenly lift my head from the screen and it's been two hours and I didn't even realise. Apparently you can binge read when the writing is good...
I love how priest blends Chinese culture with the Western references like 50 Shades Of Grey and Captain America.
And I really don't know how she come up with all the twists and turns and intricate details. She is so young and her books are already on another level, such cinematic writing - no wonder she has so many drama adaptations.
But yeah, the amount of conspiracies and corruption in this book... There is no way the drama version can air unless they take out the core of the story... π
When it reaches 8 I'll watch β
Or even 7.9 for these actors...
