Finished reading Mo Du, so I need to know what other novels by Priest are a must read.
All recommendations are welcome and recommendations with links to good translations even more so.

Why are the ratings so low? I love the actors but I'm hesitant to watch it now.

At this point I would give anything for an 8 episodes glimpse like with Mo Du.

I sometimes feel that if all the censorship and regulations were gone, Chinese dramas would truly be unstoppable and leave the other asian countries far behind. On the other hand, maybe some of their creativity comes from finding ways to get around the rules... A lot of the dramas I've seen were masterpieces and did manage to be save from all the rules.

I don't think they can change the scope of corruption in the story without butchering the whole thing. They can tone down other aspects, but not this one and it's probably the main problem.

I'm reading the novel and now I'm not so sure it stopped airing because it's a BL. This is full of corruption, extreme poverty, paedophilia and other "delights" that a communist country likes to pretend don't exist.

What is this about?

For me it's the engagement hairpin in Word Of Honor and how they made it impossible for the censors to cut out. Or that erotic mouth to mouth resuscitation in SCI.

And there was also the timing. Guardian could have been filmed before the BL ban, so they actually had to cut out even more than with later BLs that were already filmed with censorship in mind.
