But yeah, I get what you mean. After Semantic Error success, acting in bls has kinda become a shortcut method to gain new fans without much effort. There is trailer for a new show which literally says "can this become the next Semantic Error" but the actors practically have #NoHomo stamped on their faces during even normal scenes like sitting next to each other.

As a queer 90s kid, who grew up consuming lgbtq+ media since 20yrs ago when "gay" movies where either tragic art films or biographies or indie movie starring "reformed" pornstars and movies like Brokeback Mountain were considered a LANDMARK for gay movies, it grinds my gears that even in 2023, people are still whitewashing queer characters and queerbaiting bl fans.

It literally has the same plot as The Dude in me, but gay. There is also another comic where the guy turns into bullied high school GIRL called "Fight like a girl".

Getting soul/switched with someone while trying to save them is a very common trope. So they could have adaptated a non-bl novel with the same plot and it would be just fine. Why touch minority literature just to whitewash it?

Being gay doesn't give you the blanket right to give a pass what most people INCLUDING OTHER QUEERS think of as homophobia. Just like the other commenters said, if u take a minority literature but take away the "minority" aspect it, you shouldnt have touched the minority literature in the first place.

It's not like the story is special or unique. Without the bl aspect, this is story is extremely similar (if not the same) as the movie Dude inside/within me. They could have adaptated that movie into a modernized drama and it would still be as good. Why specifically touch queer/bl literature just to whitewash it.

They specifically adaptated this bl novel BECAUSE they wanted to reel in the bl fans as well as the fanbase of the original novel, but they also dont wanna upset the homophobic fans of the actors.

Na eff that. I wamt kisses and hugs too, if they were in the source material. If the sauce was shounen ai (light bl) then I will be satisfied with hard bromance but if it was a sexual yaoi novel, then at least a few kisses are needed.

it. Plot says that the student committed suicide but his body was taken over by the gangster, so the dead student would be shown as a bullied gay in flashbacks but the gangster is straight and has a female love interest

This is why I kinda in Thailand where the authors have a blanket right on their adaptations. Yes, sometimes u get creeps like the authors of Kinn Porshe but at least the spurce material remains untainted.

If the actor is the problem they should cast different ones. Not surprised though, the other guy is Golcha Jaehyun, a mainstream idol. Idols acting in Bls are usually from 2/3-tier or disbanded groups, it's impossible for a mainstream idol to do a bl.

Weak Hero wasnt supposed to be queer coz the webtoon is pure action. But, in the MC/Yeon flashbacks (which the drama is based on) there are definitely queer undertones and they probably liked each other in their own way. The bullies hold Yeon/Ahn being "a gay couple" (they aren't, the bullies just spread the rumour to hurt them) as an excuse to bully them.

I was kinda surprised when they changed the tags for Devil Judge to "censored adaptation of same sex novel" coz I was pretty sure the novel is gen (no romance). I do hope we get a season 2 with them as a couple though

My only gripe was we didn't see the conclusion of the OG couple Cobra and Murayama. Murayama left school and bought a bike at the end of the last movie to presumably join Sannoh but they don't even mention him. We see some flashbacks in Fujio's memory so it wasnt all bad. I just we havent seen the last of him yet

The sequel Worst X was a borefest (Suzuran was basically a glorified cameo and Fujio didnt even fight Lao (because he only fights for a good cause now 🙄🙄) but there was SO. MUCH. GAY!

Fujio and Tsukasa the main couple, the new villain couple - a trigger-happy rich spoilt brat and his driver's son who is totally in unrequited love with him, Todoroki and Odajima of Housen being, and I kid you not, "fishing buddies" (like! Might as well call them bachelor roommates and be done with it) Fujio being upset that Sachio left without telling him amd the first thing Sachio does after returning is rush to save Fujio. Oh, and gayest OST in the history of this franchisee - Wings!

Probably to keep it R15. I guessed that he was catching a break after pulling an all-nighter.
