Im at ep 24... is Gulinazha really the main lead? I barely see her... even Eleanor has more scenes... its so confusing…
Unfortunately she's only there for name sake, while Eleanor is the actual love interest and also a main lead in the original novel. As you can see her scenes are very few and it doesn't improve much later either.
Now that the series is finally over, and the diverse reviews we can finally move on. For me this was a difficult…
And I agree with you. I think Cheng Yi did fine with LCZ but I felt something was sometimes on and off with XQS quite a bit until midway after his memories as XMM merged with book XQS. After he powered up with the pill his XQS got more stable and more anchored. The weird script doesn't help if not exacerbate the problem. For me the script is really super super important to either allow the actor to show their full potential like LHL or put them in a weird spot like this one.
Ep.39 was such a good episode except for the last scene (which I spoiled myself of but still felt really sad and…
It was definitely an emotional scene, but it was executed way too fast... everything happened in a whirlwind and boom it's done...I haven't even registered what was happening yet
Right like it pisses me off so bad omg, why hate the actors for this 😭 (look at the comment right above yours.…
Yeah that's why I posted a new comment instead of replying to them..by the sound of it I can already guess that we can't have a proper conversation anyway so there's no point. Still, such attitudes really hurt CY and his costars so I'm kinda upset. Ironically Joseph Zheng in MLC also got scolded similarly in the Chinese fandom so this behavior isn't exactly new, just that I don't really expect to see it in MDL also
Damn the toxicity in a certain comment attacking other actors in the drama because of the agency company decision...I know it's already happening in the Chinese fandom but didnt really expect to see them here too.. Sighhh
Its always amusing reading comments here, still blaming different fandom for ratings instead of trying to see…
I hope more ppl upvotes the more objective reviews that actually reflects the strength and weaknesses of this series, so that future viewers would manage their expectations going into this drama
please dont attack me, am i the only one who thought the drama was boring, too much plot that was dragged out…
I'm sorry that you have to say the first sentence..no one deserves to be attacked for their opinions and view as long they're respectful. By the way I think the same as you.
Okay let me just say this.. This drama is great but I just can't connect with it at all even with all the emotions…
I personally feel they're trying to do a bit too many things here, mixing reality fantasy wuxia and mystery..Given that the originals work is an old material arts novel in the 80s the scriptwriter probably wanted to spice things up with these elements but it's a bit too much for me to take seriously. The fight scenes are great though so thumb up to Chengyi for that
I personally feel the second case was pretty interesting. My eyes were glued to the screen and the walkthrough.I'm…
Oh i was counting the case incorrectly. I was referring to the case where a young girl was killed in the inn (ep 4 or 5). I must admit the first few cases are a bit more standalone, but the cases will start to be more connected from ep 10 onwards. When I think of this series, I'm more impressed by the characters and their relationship with each other rather than the storyline itself, so I would say this is the kind of series that is stronger in terms of getting u in invested in the characters /the main characters rather than the story itself.
Yeah hyping is never a good thing. Just keep and open mind and give it a few more eps. If not then it's fine as well
I'm on episode 7 and feel rather underwhelmed. So far there's been a lot of standing around talking and very little…

I'm not sure what you mean by the characters being one dimensions, but they are very human. They have love conflicts regrets etc that will get explored later.
The series is NOT action packed if that's what you're after. There are some super cool fight scenes but that's about it. This is mostly about detective and cases, fights are not the focus. If you like the 3 main leads and their relationship that grows by the episodes + find the cases interesting, you will like it. Else the series won't be for you.
Is it worth it? I really hate the multiple love interest thing and I’m hesitant
You can either love it or hate it. anyway its a quick watch. You can just try the first ep and then drop it if you feel it's not for you. I personally love it to bits.
Sighhh
