Ok Manger Kim turning out to be a double agent is something I didn't really see coming. What made him have a change…
I've only read the first couple of chapters of the manhwa, but he was noticeably more supportive there. Maybe that's his true arc and the show was just slow to show it? But he was really a jerk in the original time line of the show.
This show is speed-running the plot of a 100 episode daily in only 12 weeks and it's so good!
It's refreshing that the villains are not the MIL or GMIL for once. The leads have great chemistry and Jung Yoo Min especially is doing such a great job portraying a character who fluctuates between insecurity and total self-confidence.
This show is playing with a lot of the usual makjang tropes but tweaking them slightly, which makes things interesting. Can't wait for next week.
He's a supporter of bullying and friends with bullies. Not a good character for an actor.
I hope your life is never ruined because of some bad choices you made when you were twelve. I don't support bullying, but c'mon. He's an actor not a politician. Who cares?
This felt more like a drama school grad project than a serious drama. Everyone was overacting and the pacing of the lines were off. It felt like everyone counted to 3 after the previous line was spoken to say their line. Also, it had one of my least favourite tropes: the misunderstanding that drags on for too long because the one person has already made up their mind without letting the other person explain.
I basically watched this for Ki Hyung Woo and Yeoreum. They were both some of the most natural actors in the show and seem like they will get better with more experience.
I won't be watching anything with Yang Jun Mo anytime soon. Ki Hyun Woo had to single-handedly create all the chemistry. Yang is just too green and can't get by on any natural talent.
After Do Ha literally made Syaon a star (no matter the talent of hers, right marketing and songwriting is important),…
She's really horrid. She finds out that this person that she's close to and who has been suffering and living in fear has finally found a small spot of normalcy in his life, and she immediately wants to destroy it because it doesn't involve her. And then because he doesn't reciprocate her feelings she reenacts the unaliving of his childhood friend, just to get attention. She's so sick and twisted. I hope the show doesn't gloss over this and give her a happy ending with no consequences.
It's based off a BL novel where the main couple has a very explicit relationship. This was heavily censored by the show runners so they could get it past the gov't censors and on the air. But they've tried to drop tons of hints and symbolism. E.g. One character is wearing the other's underwear and the uncle notices but doesn't say anything. You can think of it as a BL where all the skinship and explicit declarations of love happen off screen. Cause it's definitely not a bromance.
What does homoerotic subtext mean anyway? I often see it in Chinese drama tags
It's when there are obvious and open signs that they are in a relationship and sleeping together, but the show never acknowledges it. And it's different than a bromance. E.g. When Su Yu yells to Wu Bi, "I love you... ocean!" When Wu Bi jealously tells that girl, "He is mine." When the dad finds lube in their bed, but the show plays it off as lipbalm. When they sleep in the same bed every night, wear couples clothes, kiss each other, and give each other lifelong commitments, but the show makes it seem like this is just how school boys act.
They only mention SH JS couple so that means the MinHyjun didn't pan out correct? I think some of the guys may…
Someone else in the comments mentioned that it was Hyung Joon who shot that birthday video, so at least some of them are still hanging out. I'm going to go back and rewatch. Interesting because the show didn't show HJoon being close to SH JS at all.
Is there actual BL content and relationship or is this Queerbaiting? Honest responses please.
This is a loose adaptation of Addicted(Heroin), which was definitely a BL. Both the novels and the series showed an explicit sexual relationship between the leads. The Chinese government stopped the broadcast after about 16 episodes for this reason. The lead actors were even banned from being seen together in public and to this day they have not and that was about 6 or 7 years ago. The writer of the original novels is the screenwriter of this series.I doubt this will be explicitly BL because the two series have similar plots and we're well past the point where the leads got together. I'm sure there's huge scrutiny on this from the government. But even though this is the sanitized version, they're trying to sneak hints in. E.g. "He's mine" is the tame version of "Ta shi wo de nan pung you" from the original. They're always wearing couples clothes and pajamas. They show a lot of jealousy over the other. And they found a way for them to live together and express long term commitment. I wouldn't call this queerbaiting. Fans of the original series have been upset for years that they never got to see the ending. I feel like this is more a bit of fan service to give people closure.
This drama seems to me to be a loose remake of A Love So Beautiful. This doesn't put me off at all because it's different enough that it still feels new and fresh.
There are some aspects of this series that I liked better than ALSB. In this version the male lead isn't quite so tsundere, the female lead isn't quite so air-headed. But the friend group isn't quite so charming.
I've only watched half the drama so far (the high school years), so hopefully the second half is as good as the first. Overall it's still way better than the Korean version of ALSB, which I never liked nearly as much as the original Chinese.
Are some voices dubbed? I heard some cdramas dub the voices for whatever reason
This drama is obviously dubbed. The male lead is often quite stone-faced and doesn't move his lips much, so sometimes I think he's having an inner monologue and then realize that he spoke out loud.
I got the sense that Su Yu was confessing he felt the same way about Wu Bi
By any chance did you watch Advance Bravely on Viki recently? Cause for some reason the Viki version is more censored than the originally released version, which you can find elsewhere. Still not totally explicit, but they're certainly not hiding anything.
seriously what is that women's deal? I mean Su Yu's mother why does she not want Wu Bi to be with Su Yu and that…
She only values money. She left Su Yu's dad to get out of poverty and marry a rich man. That's the only value she has, so she doesn't understand that other people value love and a happy family over wealth. Just doesn't compute in her brain. Wu Bo's dad is the same way.

Would still highly recommend!
