Her performance in Ancient Detective really struck me. She's absolutely smouldering hot, and I don't mean in terms of looks. Yes, she's really pretty in general terms, but not really a standout by actress standards. There's just something about her that's overflowing with charisma and sexual tension, in a way that I rarely see in other actresses, no matter how beautiful they are. And that voice! I don't know if it's her own voice or dubbed, but her voice in Ancient Detective is so sensual and soothing, like a massage for the eardrums.
Weiyoung is being framed again; it must be Tuesday. But the way she gets out the situations is entertaining and satisfying.
This drama has almost nothing to do with the novel it's supposedly based on. The plots are completely different.
For those complaining about the sad ending, it was necessary because the male lead is based on a real historical figure, an emperor who died young, setting the stage for his empress to rule on behalf of their young son. However, the historical Tuoba Jun was barely a teenager when he ascended the throne, and the writers took the liberty of making him a lot older.
For me, the most striking thing about this drama is how good the female lead's acting is compared to her previous works. She definitely improved a lot, to the point where we can now take her seriously as an actress, whereas previously she was just a pretty face. But her makeup doesn't look good in this drama.
Neo Hou looks like Nichkhun of 2PM which I love.WASTED STRONG FEMALE LEAD.Ban Hua was more like a pretty soldier…
She's already the strongest fighter so they can't make her too smart, otherwise she would be too perfect. Characters need to have some flaws in order to be relatable. I hate dramas that have a male lead that's 100% perfect in every way... usually paired with an annoyingly childish female lead who can't do anything. I like couples that complement each other in terms of their strengths and weaknesses.
I think Guan Xiaotong's acting is pretty good, but it still baffles me that she is considered one of the four best actresses of her generation, along with Yang Zi and two others I'm not familiar with. She doesn't hold a candle to Li Yitong, in my opinion. At least she looks really pretty in this drama, I think because her face is rounder. She was way too skinny in Untouchable Lovers and I didn't find her attractive at all.
Okay, so could someone help? I realize that this is a remake of a very popular trilogy- and I want to watch just…
They remake the stories in the trilogy every few years. The best version of Return of the Condor Heroes was the 2006 version with Huang Xiaoming and Liu Yifei, but it's impossible to find it in quality better than 480p.
Yukee Chen single-handedly makes this series worthwhile. Her portrayal of Zhao Min is so perfect: mischievous, playful, poignant, and unfathomably charismatic. That devilish smile is absolutely heartbreaking and it's impossible not to fall in love with her. As far as I'm concerned, she is the quintessential Zhao Min, in the same way that Crystal Liu was the quintessential Xiao Long Nü. Unfortunately, with the exception of her role as Princess Liu Ying in Ashes of Love, which was also very charismatic, the rest of her performances in other dramas just don't carry the same magic.
I don't like the changes they made to the main character. Zhang Wuji was always an excessively nice guy, but in this version they made him even more of a weak sissy. He doesn't kill a single person in the entire drama, not even the two villains that poisoned him when he was a child, something that he always did in previous adaptations.
The fight choreography is quite disappointing for a wuxia drama. Seriously, why does every single move have to be in slow motion? The fight scenes are not engaging to watch at all. Slow motion is like spices; it should be used to add flavor and interest, not be served as the main course.
Asking for spoilers: How does it end? Is there a secondary couple?
She was a plant to begin with. He is 1000 years old, and there's no indication that he lost his immortality. So it stands to reason that eventually she will become "human" again and they can be together.
Lol, I knew I recognized the FL. 兔子牙 from douyin actually started acting.
I just checked her bio page and holy crap, she is 31!!! When I watched the drama I assumed she was just another 21 year old rookie actress. How does she look so young!!??
Couldn't watch this so I skipped some scenes throughout first fifteen episodes. The only characters I liked were…
Nongying betrayed the crown prince so I guess that kinda counts as something bad. But she did it in exchange for medicine to save Gongsun Mo. I agree they deserved better. The reading to her grave is bitter sweet though.
This is my guilty pleasure drama. Normally I'm not a fan of these fluffy romcoms, but... the dynamic between the various characters is just so cute, especially between FL and her future mother-in-law. They're an absolute riot!
I only watched this because I really like the lead actress. Honestly, she deserves some better dramas to star in. Not that there's anything particularly wrong with this drama. It's not terrible, but it's not that good either. Definitely no re-watch value. It's just that this plot has been done to death already. Female dresses as a male to attend an all-boys school, ends up being the top performer, eventually gets discovered, everyone falls in love with her, blah blah blah.
This drama is fun and very silly, which is exactly what you'd expect considering it's based on a comic book (manga). If you want a serious drama, look elsewhere. But if you're looking for some highly entertaining action and comedy, it's pretty good. I know a lot of people don't like Wu Xuanyi's portrayal of Xiao Wu, but I actually think it's perfect. She is exactly what you'd expect from someone who's used to being a rabbit and is very innocent and naive about being human.
There's so much that's good about this drama, and so much that's bad. While I was watching, I was actually very engaged and really wanted to know what happens next, mostly because of the super smart villain who's always several steps ahead of the protagonists. But after I finished watching, the disappointment kicked in and all the flaws became too much to bear. The villain's downfall was so unspectacular. It seemed like such a rookie mistake for such an intelligent person to make. There's not much of a final showdown, so the ending was anticlimactic. The writers went out of their way to make the FL as useless as possible. Despite the fact that she literally becomes the strongest fighter in the world, she still can't accomplish a single thing without completely relying on the men around her. I mean, I'm not expecting some "don't need no man" feminist nonsense either, but come on, at least have some ability to do things yourself. In the end, she gives up on her responsibilities to be a wife, and leaves management of her sect to her assistant, who has NOT proven to be particularly smart or capable throughout the drama. Not to mention all the plot holes. The story had a lot of potential to be great, but in the end it falls flat in my opinion.
Am on episode 10 and she’s useless tell me is there character development for her ?
Nope. Even when she becomes the strongest fighter in the world, she still can't accomplish a single thing without completely relying on the men around her.
Zhang Huiwen's character is soooo sexy here. I mean, she's a shapeshifting, genius vigilante thief (Robin Hood style) who always cuts off one of her victim's fingers. If that isn't sexy, I don't know what is.
I really liked Zhang Huiwen in Nirvana in Fire 2 and Allen Ren in Under the Power, so I had high expectations for this drama. Unfortunately I was rather disappointed. The story is produced and edited in a way that doesn't captivate me. The personalities of two lead characters just don't fit the actor and actress very well, and the result feels a bit awkward and forced. And I just don't like them as a couple. Rong Hua is very smart and badass when she's alone and forced to fend for herself, but when they're together she fades into the background and lets Nalan Yue do everything. They don't communicate so there's a lot of misunderstandings, and there's too much of the "I'm going to hurt her in order to protect her" trope.
