I've noticed that they use aphrodisiacs a lot in historical cdramas. Is it just something they like to add to…
Where are they getting these magical aphrodisiacs that work instantly and why don't we have them in our current time? π It's even their incense sometimes. This trope was parodied by Romance of Tiger and Rose. It was done very well there.
I agreed with you. In drama it did vaguely mention for two or three days (think the maid was the one who mentioned).…
In the drama, the ml clearly mentions that it's been two days since the rituals so we have to assume that she was left outside for 3 nights at least. Even the FL later mentions they left me out for 3 days. That plot point was a bit on the nose. What's funny to me is as the original commenter mentioned, the generals also stayed there for 2 days? They didn't have any other work? π
So the four generals and the ladies were there for days? No one realized? Did the cousin stand there under her…
Yeah that plot was a bit of a head scratcher for meπΆβπ«οΈ also the resolution was so drawn out, I had to use fast forward liberally. The cousin looks beautiful but is really a piece of work.
I feel like her acting is really good here and its my first SZE drama too. As for the line delivery, are you Chinese?…
Like I said, I am talking about too much breathiness in her voice, not about her chinese diction of which I know nothing. It seems too contrived for my taste, I thought I was in my journey to you for a second. Everyone else around her is speaking in a normal tone, so I guess that's what's throwing me off. That, combined with everything else I mentioned in my comment, is giving me a very hazy image of the kind of character she wants to create. In fact, I am able to clearly get what LYN set out to do, although I've seen his work before and he has played similar characters before. Like I said in my other comment up there, I think I set my expectations too high after watching the trailer and reading the synopsis. I'm 3 episodes in and still hopeful that I'll enjoy it. I just have to get used to her acting, I guess.
The direction, costumes and set designs are really good in this drama. The styling is soo good, both ML and FL look amazing in these costumes. Even the mid age range actors look amazing.
Saw her again after a long time (can't remember how she sounds like in other drama) and I, too, was surprised…
I was surprised in the first episode that she was acting like that even in her own home, also with the cousin to whom she is supposedly so close that she is willing to take her place in a dangerous situation. Her acting has not yet convinced me about her character's foundation and motivation but I'm sure it will get better further along the story and has a purpose in her character arc.
One fan asked Liu Xue Yi a question in his livestream "did you join for the reshoots just to film the kissing scenes?" Huhu He said "how is that possible?"π€£
No idea what you're watching, because she's been displaying tons of micrexpressions in this drama. Sounds to me…
Good for her. And as to being observant, if you're convinced that she has displayed enough micro expressions, then that's your truth. For me, when she is in a scene with other actors, I don't find her acting convincing enough to make a judgement as to her emotions in that moment and that's my truth. Hope that makes sense to you.

Sounds to me that we are different people, making different observations and to me, in a scene when she is with other actors, her emotions are not coming through as well as others in her micro expressions, for example He Hong Shan. I'm on episode 2, it's still early days.Let's see how it goes in the future episodes. I hope you know that people are allowed to have opinions that are different than yours or other people, doesn't make them any less observant.
assuming that you are genuinely criticising an actor and are not a hater, I really liked her acting in the drama…
Actually, I watched some more and I realised the problem (for me at least). Because in the beginning she has scenes with He Hong Shan and her micro expressions are so good that in comparison, for me, SZE looks blank. Maybe it's part of character arc and since it's still the beginning, I'll give her the benefit of doubt. Like you said, I don't have prior experience with her acting so I guess I'll first have to get used to it.

I am not a hater of anyone in general, I don't have enough time , energy or inclination of that huhu. This is what I thought just based on the first episode. I am actually excited about this drama because I love the premise of an arranged marriage and enemies to lovers is my favourite trope. I think I just had too high expectations, since I really loved the trailer. But we will see how it goes in the upcoming episodes

I am not Chinese but based on how her dialogues are delivered in the beginning, I can hear that there's a lot of breath in her voice. Maybe it'll change in the latter episodes.
This is my first SZE drama but she seems a bit wooden in the beginning. She is just staring straight, where are the micro expressions? Her line delivery is also too breathy, not very clear
