People who are selfish, excessively fearful and paranoid are not in the best place to make rational decisions. The two leads have training in emergency/ high conflict situations. Ergo their reasoning, motivations and well-thought out actions make the most sense to me. It's how SANE adults ought to act.
It's also essential for survival to persuade others to see reason, and band together instead of acting harshly or with unkindness (like that liar, er, "lawyer" who instigated the vote).
I keep watching this show (episode 7 now) precisely because I can relate with both leads and I am fully on board with their characters. I keep cheering them on and really wish they are able to save as many residents as they can. I appreciate the he ml for his calm, kind and reasonable demeanor, and yet also with the fl for her com/passion and unyielding sense of justice cum bad-assery. I've loved her from the first epi.
We need MORE good people in this world, imho. Let art imitate life, please?

What I really appreciate about shows that has got this theme is the way that our own concept of who counts as HUMAN is explored. Of course we think that we are always included in that set of "humanity" but when it gets broken down into categories -- say that of social status and class -- in this case, who fully paid for the apartment (the affluent) vs who resides there via public housing (the working class) -- we begin to see that, indeed, not everyone is treated equally.
Unequal treatment exists in the best of times. The difference is made more stark by a new infectious disease (with all the biting, blood and gore, this makes for a good show) that is yet to fully be explained by the experts to the general public (people do not like being bitten) ONTOP of Covid.
Albert Camus' The Plague already touched on this topic, too. But Kdrama is really getting good at this. I am hooked. Still on episode 4 tho.
I agree that you should not rely on ratings. The Love and Destiny drama is one of the best and high-quality dramas…
I have liked Chang Chen since seeing him first time in Happy Together. He was awesome as usual (in a more recent film) the Grandmaster, too.
Meanwhile, I have also liked Xiao Zhan since seeing him in the Untamed.
I truly see no conflict in appreciating both actors and their respective works. I like who I like and that applies to most people, I suppose. The comments section is proof enough of that. :))

Just today, I find that this series (Doulou Continent) is no longer free on WeTV, starting from episode 7 until episode 40. Only VIP could watch in full.
