Ni hao. I am one of the intl fans and I am loving the cultural references from this drama. Many times, I ran to do a search... for example, I thought Dongxia was a real place because the capital, Beijing is real (of course). I also looked up the mountain (fiction), and the Feng Shan altar, what is it for. The flat scepters 笏 that ZH and the ministers (their ranks and robe colors) are holding, what are they for... these are what comes to mind after my second rewatch as I took some notes. I am going for a third rewatch soon, LOL.
Most of all the series really got me very intrigued about architecture and tomb-building in Ancient China. I only know about the Qin tomb and famous terracotta warriors, so I am catching up on all the others, so much to learn. As we all know, China is one of the oldest civilizations, and for eager learners, there's so much to know and I thank LoZH's entire production team for piquing my interest, this is stellar work, all 40 episodes of them. This will be a classic. A very fine cultural flex. Xiao Zhan's soft power goes far and wide. :)

It's 2025, about time that women characters were updated to reflect values that promote those who hold half the sky. After all who watches these dramas... I am guessing they are predominantly women though perhaps the CCTV demographic is wider.

They're after all of Xiao Zhan's show. In 2023 it happened to all his dramas: from the Youth Memories, to TLP (the worst down-voting happened during this period) and SBMS. Why do they do it? Xiao Zhan is impossible for them to ignore. They could be mass up voting their own favorites but no.

Unpopular opinion but I loved his singing, tbh. It worked well into the scenes and provided the necessary mood more than (perhaps) an OST. I wish one Eunuch Cao song gets into the official release.
His drumbeating also gave me goosebumps. I will remember his name, Xing Min Shan, such a great actor!

To me this is the biggest draw to ZH's character. He's so human.
Many other characters who are driven by vengeance fight their monstrous enemies turn out to become monsters themselves. Despite his human flaws, to emerge from all this and triumph as human (not monster) is what the hero's journey is truly all about.

Perhaps this is an unpopular opinion, but I like the singing on Eunuch Cao. His drum-banging scene too, so powerful, gave me goosebumps.
The Marquis also left an impact. I thought he really considered ZH as his lucky charm and that betrayal crushed him. I will miss them both.
Meanwhile, the 3rd fishy persona must be unraveled soon. Same with the masked one (my guess is Mr8's dad, based on physique).
