I agree with everything you said here. I enjoyed the action, but there were some plot holes and strange things that just didn’t get closure. Felt they could have inserted a tad more romance as there really is absolutely none other than the leads risking their lives to protect each other repeatedly.

There is always so much push back against older guy younger woman because in North America we think of grooming, etc. I find it more jarring when a woman is 10 years older than her counterpart but they are supposed to play characters of similar age like Victoria Song and Timmy Xu in “Almost Lover”. I couldn’t buy that casting at all.
Jerry Yan is everything! EVERYTHING!! Using Luo Zhou as a young Jerry Yan is also inspired: the jaw, the nose, totally on point. The age gap in the actors didn’t bother me. The age gap in the characters is only 10 years or so and Jerry pulls off late 30’s if not quite 34.
