I'm not a fan of Park Min Young, and the girl wearing the confederate flag almost made me drop this, but I'm not…
Interesting. TBH I didn’t even notice a confederate flag , but I’m not American. Also, filmed 9 years ago and I wish people would think more about sensibilities of the time and place than impose current standards. And keep in mind this is also not American. If I had noticed it, I would likely think, “huh. Interesting that this was a fashion choice of wardrobe dept. I wonder what brand this was and whether it was popular in the US then or internationally only (in a cultural appropriation sorta way where they don’t really understand the symbolism/history).” To me it is much more interesting to take an academic approach to these things than to be offended and cancel things. But I’m in my 40’s and there is definitely a big difference in the gen X approach to such things versus the younger generations.

DOTS, Terius Behind Me, Lawless Lawyer, Alchemy of Soul, Happiness (Zombie), Vagabond (Open Ending), Mouse, Snowdrop…
Omg, Mouse? Love love love it, but sooo intense and harrowing. I definitely would not place it in the category of similar to Healer.

Currently binge watching Park Min-Young show now, started with Her Private Life, Secretary kim, Love in Contract…
Agree she is sooooooo thin in Love in Contract that it is distracting. Her character is warm, but professional and distant so I think the smiles might have been toned down purposefully. I did really like it though. But she is really great in Healer and Her Private Life and Secretary Kim.

nah he has good ones like suspicious partner and lovestruck in the city
I tried SO hard to watch Lovestruck in the City because I’m his fan, but I couldn’t get through it. His character was cringey. I didn’t like the format. Wasn’t for me. Sound of Magic just didn’t pull me in. I have to be in the mood for a musical show. He has done very diverse stuff since finishing his military service. I notice he has a lot of things still due out this year so I’m excited to check them out!

Yes!!! K2, Healer. Yes yes yes. I will take Backstreet Rookie, too! Melting Me Softly, ok. But he has done some strange projects lately. I tried to watch because it was him, but I couldn’t get through them.

I finished and, well, the ending was rushed and not satisfying, at least for me. Some weird story to finish up…
Ha ha. I just finished watching right this minute. Moon Ho told his Noona about her daughter (he said he was going to tell her at dinner) and then they went over to her place immediately with all the food she’d made for dinner. She spoke as if she didn’t know, referring to the daughter as the adopted dad’s child the entire time. But the subtext was clearly that she knew but wasn’t saying it aloud. Yeong Shin says something in an inner monologue about she and her mom being a lot alike, knowing but not saying things aloud. Moon Ho always wanted to be with his Ex but his guilt towards his Noona and Ji An kept him from committing to the relationship… Resolution of the murder charge was not well done. They neglected to show that wrap up although they did show him bugging the conversation at the bar with Elder where it is frankly said that he was framed and forced to confess. Agree putting a bow on these things was done in a pretty rushed way. But I still loved the show overall.

nobody told me Bin Bin was in here as well what a pleasant surprise
I’ve been waiting for more episodes to drop before I start this. Today I watched all the trailers and saw Bin Bin in one and was so excited! Sad it is just a cameo but love the O2O reunion, however brief. I love Yang Yang and Bin Bin. Both are my absolute favorite Chinese LMs.

Finally! I felt like this man was not goinf to catch a break. I didn't want to see him with Dilraba again because…
His role in Love O2O is one of my fave characters. Although I’ve seen him in several dramas, it only “hit” me a few episodes into this one that he was K.O. in Love O2O.

I love this show so much that I’m going to subscribe to another service just so I can jump 6 episodes further ahead than I am right now on Viki! How’s that for an endorsement?!
I love everything about the lead characters in this. Love they are both given opportunities to act cheeky and flirty instead of always stiff or cold. Why is the rating only an 8??

Because in many Asian countries family matters, unlike other countries where the family name can be dragged through…
@pekopekopeko You sound a bit like someone who is planning on throwing acid on your sister’s face if she “shames” your family. Those are some seriously extreme views you are spouting. The culture of “reality tv” and people who are famous for being rich brats is definitely overpowering in the US, but why are you generalizing the West by US popular culture? There are other countries in the West and there are millions of people who ignore this pop culture and don’t glorify these idiots at all. That doesn’t mean that we expect that famous people should have to live a life without blemishes. The standard that Korean stars are held to by fans and the public is too rigorous. We shouldn’t even BE in these people’s personal lives. Their families are the only ones who should care about a situation like this. It isn’t anyone else’s business. The stress that the potential for scandal must create in their daily lives must be overwhelming. The price paid for fame in South Korea is much higher than that in the US.

On The Eighth Sense Apr 27, 2023
I am almost never interested in seeing something twice from start to finish. I might want to revisit a scene or an episode, but a series? Almost never. This one is different. Because I’m reading while watching k-dramas, I feel as though I sometimes might miss a fine detail here or there and usually I’m fine with that. I might rewind 10 seconds to listen again and see if I disagree with a subtitling choice (my Korean is limited to what you pick up watching 2500 hours of TV - I should probably be fluent by now, right?) or because I want to see the subtle details of a gaze, etc. However, for this one I’m going to rewatch the entire series. Why? There were things I found jarring while experiencing them the first time around: sound editing choices, for example. The beautiful but loud romantic background music that accompanies the flashbacks to their time at the beach ends abruptly with no segue into a scene with complete silence as a backdrop. Loud city background noises again cut straight to silence. Nothing tapers out to transition you gently from scene to scene. A lot of times when I’m acutely aware of the sound editing in a show it is because it is awful. Music that conveys the wrong emotion of the scene, music that is so loud it overshadows the sound and action of the scene itself… things not quite synched up. Sound has such a huge impact on the viewing experience and “jarring” sound is usually firmly on the “cons” side for me. “The Eighth Sense” clearly used these transitions purposefully as a stylistic choice that grew on me as the show progressed. It added another layer of feeling or sensation to the experience of watching. I’m looking forward to delving into the artistic choices further on a rewatch.
The romance - the way they are just organically drawn to each other is really well done. We also don’t often get this level of passion displayed in kdrama - especially BL. I’ve only watched maybe 8 BL’s and 3 or 4 of those were Thai, but I just read a description that said something like dead fish kisses and OMG, yes! I have seen some truly terrible, zero chemistry kissing in BL Kdramas. Not here.
The everything. Yep, just need to watch it again!!!

many fans unfollowed not just because he had sex. he lied to fans saying that he was single for 12 years~.( I…
They wouldn’t dare say she was just some chick he shagged… just sayin’. Honestly the truth isn’t in any of the statements made by entertainment companies, ever. And he grew up in the States at a prestigious boarding school where I guarantee he had a ton of relationships as a teen. The Entertainment companies create these fantasies because it is what the crazy fans in Asia want and expect of their stars, not because it is truth.

You can’t pick the family of the person you love. Nor should you visit the sins of the parent on the child. Her parents were involved in some shady stuff. Sucks for everyone impacted, including her. I absolutely LOVE Lee Seung Gi’s work. Him getting married has no impact on his craft. As someone who appreciates his work, I’m happy if he finds happiness. His work has brought me happiness so if the universe sends some back his way that is GREAT. Judging the love lives of idols is really not our business as fans. I think it must be incredibly difficult to be a star in Korea. Wishing happiness to the couple!!
