I don't need them to change who XY ends up with in the end...but I really want them to make her find out about all the things XL has done for her and visit his grave with Jing or something. That would be great closure for me...but I'm not going to hold my breath cause I doubt the writer is going to change the ending like that when XL is her favorite character 😔🙃

She was in love with the man she was sent to kill who is XY's bio dad. And in the show she had been in love/with him longer. I might be missing details....haven't watched it in awhile...
So...did CX's grandpa send XY's mom to kill her lover on purpose? Cause in the original story, XY's mom was his daughter and in the prequel to this he didn't want to send her to war...and in the book he knew who XY's birth father was....so how does that apply to this show?

So, it's sad because XY never gets to truly know all the things XL has done for her and Jing never tells her. Also, her relationship with Xuan turns sorta sour cause of his obsession. They make up in the end but still. It's also sad because you realize XY never really got to make choices for herself. Xuan, XL, Jing and even Fenglong, all make the choices for her and she's just sorta stuck going along with whatever. But it's also happy because she loves Jing a lot and he was the only one out of the 4 of them willing to give up everything for her. So she get's what she's ultimately always wanted which is basically someone that will sacrifice more and always be by her side. And she gets this due to 1. all the sacrifices XL secretly made for her and 2. Jing's selflessness. So yeah, based on how you look at it it's happy. Especially for Jing shippers.
Oh, also, it's happy too because her "dad" helps her sneak off and become normal again/traveling and wondering around with Jing without Xuan or her other relative which I won't mention for now, knowing. Because otherwise she would have never gotten the chance to escape being royalty and the responsibilities that come with it otherwise.
