I know people were rooting for MonSaint, and honestly, I would've been okay if it played out that way as well, but I was probably one of the few who never jumped ship. Soh may have been a jerk for choosing not to tell Mon the truth, but he had good intentions. Plus, I don't think most people realize his mother helped influence that decision.
I think a lot people find Soh and Mon's chemistry lacking and that's okay as well. I'm just grateful it played out the way I wanted it to, but still feel sad for Saint and the others who wanted him to be endgame for Mon.
I really liked this episode and the way things unfolded though. I've always admired how spontaneous and organic things tend to play out in this series.
Loved the series so much, and will miss it so much.
It tackled some really tough themes effectively and intertwined them well with a light fluffy exterior about household objects coming to life and BL. There's nothing quite like it and I think that's what makes the show so brilliant. It made these themes more accessible to those who may be deterred by such heavy elements. My one take away from this series is that it's great therapy and healing for those who have suffered in these situations, and a learning experience to those who may not understand it. There's a lot of sad, but tons of happy, fun, and entertaining moments as well. It's the full experience.
As for the ending, I think I'm okay with it. There were a few elements I could've done without and others I wished had been addressed:
The one thing I would have them change above anything else is not to have Tofu live as a teddy bear beside Nut. It's a cruel ending since Tofu has more of a human conscience now and has experienced a life beyond being an inanimate object. Keeping him there fully conscious to see a life that he can't have anymore is pretty... cruel. I honestly would've preferred he'd gone on into the light after telling Nut he was okay with him moving on. That way we would at least know Tofu could be able to do the same with where ever he was going instead, or they'd gone with the Toy Story ending and sent him to another family for him to take care of.
- No real punishment given to Jan or the TRD. At the very least the CEO from the company should've been brought to Justice for her crimes. Saen is responsible for his crimes(a twist that I didn't think was really necessary), but so is Jan. It didn't sit right with me that they both slipped away unscathed, but I can accept that this can be a reality and at least there was a miracle to remedy some of the damage they inflicted.
Other than these two issues, I thought it wrapped everything well. I won't say those two points disappointed my experience, as I can easily make my own headcanon about how those story threads eventually wrap, but it's a fair heads up to those who are reading this and may be deterred by some of the more negative reaction to the ending.
Overall I think the experience as a whole was great and definitely worth checking out.
A Miracle of Teddy Bear is that kind of drama who uplifts, inform, educate, and enlighten the general public about…
Really great post.
And honestly, I'm at the point now where I won't bother to indulge some of these posters who seek to frame my view of the series the way they want it to be simply because they don't enjoy it and want everyone to agree with them. Nut's behavior is problematic, but his anger(not his behavior) has been pretty valid most of the time, and it's clear he has not overcome these so called "past traumas" since he's still triggered by certain events at every turn that lead to these uncontrollable and violent outbursts. Also, some of the trauma he's been through was still prevalent in his household(such as his mother's mental issues and her constantly bringing up his father and imagining that he was still there).
I accept that he was raised in a broken household and took on some of his father's violent tendencies. If you've never heard of this happening to anyone, then you need to do your research. What he does to Tofu and his Mother is not okay, and Nut knows that it's not and the series makes it clear that it's not, but the mental trauma is still there and it has to be resolved before he can move forward and heal properly, and that is what they've been doing so far. The problem here though is that there is a ton of trauma to work though, and if anyone thinks this type of trauma can be undone by a simple smile and a hug from a Teddy Bear is fooling themselves as much as Na was.
It's not about excusing his actions but recognizing that he has a problem, and how our upbringing can leave scars on us as adults. When they aren't addressed properly, these issues fester, build up, and affects us in ways we can't always control. Nut hasn't been properly diagnosed, but it's easy to notice he has some PTSD symptoms.
Another thing that's getting overlooked is it's Tofu's decision to stay in the relationship. No one is forcing him to be there. In fact, he had the most opportune time to leave when Song invited him to stay with him. I don't think he's given enough credit here because in this episode he was the one who put his foot down and dragged Nut out of the house to address the issue. He's clearly learning not to indulge his bad behavior and is helping to deal with his trauma. I also don't think people understand that he still has tendencies to think of himself as an inanimate object as well. Which is why he's more selfless than normal. It's clearly a fantasy element and should not be confused with how normal people should react.
Overall, I'll be watching the series without visiting the comment section for now, and will come back once the series is finish airing. I hope everyone who's enjoying the series continues to do so, and not be influenced by those who want you to feel negatively about your enjoyment of the series.
I just need to point out how therapeutic this series can really be. It's touches on so many sensitive and important subjects and gives reasonable advice to deal with many of them. I encourage anyone who's interested in this series to give it a go. It's so much more than a fluffy BL(even though there's plenty of that in here as well).
I disagree I don't think Song's father is homophobic they are barely fixing their relationship and Song hasn't…
Totally nailed it.
There are differing degrees of homophobia, and the fact that this show touched on those subtilties that exist within the sphere is one of the many reasons I feel this is probably one of the best and most important BL and LGBT series.
It could very well be poor wording on Song father's part or poor translations, but I think the tonal shift of the music and the change in the entire atmosphere after he said that is reason enough to conclude they were definitely touching on those subtleties.
It's the "I'm okay with it so long as it isn't you" that's implied in his response to Song. It's a very passive aggressive way of saying you tolerate it, but you don't support it or allow it for the people closest to you. And yes, this sort of behavior can be just as damaging as the physical and the directly inflicted homophobic vitriol.
The first thing that jumped into my mind was this very well could be the reason Neung didn't reciprocate feelings for Nut. With his father putting him on a pedestal as much as he did it's very likely Neung struggled with his identity and anything that led him to feeling like he would disappoint his father in one way or another.
I enjoyed it because of EarthMix. They have really organic and compelling chemistry, and despite all the flaws with the writing/directing(like many have mentioned), these two made the experience at least worthwhile. Both actors have real talent.
I also thought Janhae did a great job in her role as Lin/Win. The body swapping element was executed surprisingly well here and managed to avoid some of the more problematic issues that usually come with these types of stories. The songs/OST were also nice, and the settings.
I've been working on repairing the subs myself(for Ep 3). It's been a total nightmare since they went off track…
As far as I know, there is no resource that provides the show at 1080p with subs anywhere other than Netflix Asia.
The copy I used on Vimeo I downloaded directly from one of their other official sources at Ch3+: https://ch3plus.com/v/159986
I figured I might as well improve the quality too if I was fixing the subs. ;P
You need a premium subscription to watch in 1080p there though. I still have an active acc after signing up to watch the uncut version of another series(Something In My Room). There is a free version on there that's in 720p too(still pretty good quality): https://ch3plus.com/v/159977
The only other thing is they don't provide the subs there for some reason. I recorded the subs from one of the lower resolution videos at DC and applied them to the HQ one that I downloaded from Ch3+. The free version at Ch3+ can still be used as a resource to support the production team and have your viewership count at least.
I probably won't cover the other episodes. There's just too much technical work involved with using a subtitle recorder and character reader, and then having to run through the subtitle file to correct mistakes that the character reader didn't pick up properly, and then correcting the timing if it's off.
The process almost made me pull my hair out for Ep3. >_< It took me the whole weekend to do, and I don't really have that kind of time on my hands anymore. Plus I heard they will be releasing the series soon internationally after it's done airing(which should be in a few weeks since they release 4 eps per week). If there are more eps with severe subtitle timing screwups, I will cover those though.
For those having trouble with the subs out of sync for Ep3, I managed to correct them. You can find the link in one of my comments below(under a spoiler tag).
Where did you watch? I watched eps 1 and 2 from another platform then eps 3 and 4 on Netflix already but didn't…
Alternatively, if you can't access Netflix even with a VPN(since you have to have a Netflix acc in Asia for this method to work), you can still support the series for free on Ch3's website for now. They have the show there for free(but without subs): https://ch3plus.com/v/159977
I've been using this to make my viewership still count even though I watch them with subs on other sites.
I've been working on repairing the subs myself(for Ep 3). It's been a total nightmare since they went off track…
I agree. I'm not the subber though. :)
I'm certain these are the official subs that were provided by Netflix, but ended up getting screwed up during the processing stages for whomever uploaded them.
I've just been correcting the timing, but since I don't have the original subtitle file I had to use a program to copy the hardcoded subs from the video first before I could fix them(which isn't a perfect method).
It's still a lot of technical work, but I'm happy to help where I can.
I'm looking for places to upload it now. Will probably be Bilibili.
the subs on ep 1 and 3 are delayed, like they don't line up to when the person is actually talking it was okay…
I've been working on repairing the subs myself(for Ep 3). It's been a total nightmare since they went off track about 3 times throughout the episode. I'm just about done with the repairs, but now I have to correct some of the spelling mistakes since I had to use a program to scan the hardcoded subs(which is another messy issue). I really hope ep 4 isn't like this. (┬┬﹏┬┬)
i think i understand your feeling..i love the first trailer year ago too..and due to the trailer i cannot wait…
Yes, exactly! The original trailer was mindblowing and kept me excited for an entire year. I've watched it quite a few times, but I can understand how hard it must've been for the new production company to live up to that standard. I think the series is still in good hands though.
Glad you subscribed to support the series. I think it'll be well worth it!
Are you talking about the first ever trailer they released? With the previous company? That was just a trailer…
I don't know if it was the first teaser, but it probably was. I didn't really watch the trailers because it felt like I'd already seen too much after watching that one. But yeah, I'm aware about the early teasers for Thai shows usually being different for the end product, This just felt very much like it was made under a completely different production company though, like you mentioned(which I wasn't aware of). So that very much explains why everything felt so different to me. Thanks for clearing that up! I still love the series.
I enjoyed the premiere overall. It didn't quite meet my expectations but there's a lot of promise here.
I will say this felt VERY different from the 9 minute teaser we were given a year ago, and I think that's probably what set my expectations too high, because pretty much all of those scenes have been altered or removed due to the reshoots.
I haven't followed the behind the scenes drama closely, so I don't know what and/or who were all changed, but the tone and quality of the fight choreography and action is not quite at the same level that was shown in the old teaser. Which is unfortunate because that was one of the things that had me most excited about this series.
It's still good at least, but the action doesn't feel groundbreaking like it was before and how I was expecting(even the scenes that I saw in the teaser are no longer here). It's probably more noticeable to someone like me because I'm a bit of an action movie buff. So that might not be a big deal depending on what you're watching this for and if you've seen the old teaser.
But there are some positives with these changes:
I like Mile's new hairstyle as Kinn! I did not like his old look in the old teaser at all, and I'm so happy something like this was fixed. I also think the new actor for Porsche's brother is a much better fit. He seems to have better chemistry with Apo and they actually look like they could be real siblings.
The show has so many things to attract viewers. They're handling most of the characters and story quite well. Mile and Apo are both very convincing in their roles and have great chemistry. The camera work and cinematography are all highlights for me as well. The show clearly has wonderful production value. The mafia scenes need a bit of work though(the opening scene was a bit cringey to me and almost ruined the experience).
I haven't read the novels, so this is all based on someone who's simply into action films and BL. I think after this episode I can adjust myself for what to expect moving forward and should enjoy the rest of the series.
There were a few other grievances, but all were very minor things that is more related to Thai BL productions as a whole(people have already mentioned them in their reviews). So I won't fault them for those.
Watched the first episode and thought it was a pretty interesting start.
It's Toy Story/Brave Little Toaster meets BL. There's even a poster of Toy Story in Nat's bedroom. I like the premise and found it fresh for the series. I'm not sure what's going on between Nat and his mom, but it seems likes she may have a few screws loose, which could explain the frustration/aggression Nat is feeling toward her. I don't know how old he is, but it may be difficult for him to keep a handle on that with his other daily activities.
So I don't think he's being mean to her out of spite. He probably just doesn't know how to cope properly with a situation like this.
The twist with Taohu looking like Nueng is quite intriguing. I found the first episode pretty fun and comical in a silly over-the-top kind of way, but still quite engaging so far.
The VPN IP swap isn't working for me on Netflix. I've used 3 different VPNs, and the best I'm able to get is an option to remind me when the series will air. I found it on ch3plus but there are no subs... Hoping it's posted at another official source soon.
I think a lot people find Soh and Mon's chemistry lacking and that's okay as well. I'm just grateful it played out the way I wanted it to, but still feel sad for Saint and the others who wanted him to be endgame for Mon.
