If you were doubtful or on the fence about the writing/storytelling quality of this series this episode should…
Thanks for the summary. I knew the funeral was going to be massive character assassination across the board, which is why I didn't bother to continue the series after the last episode. The teaser was enough to let me know it was going to be handled very poorly.
And really, the writing is objectively bad. The directing is objectively bad, but that doesn't seem to stop some people from thinking we're creating negative spaces for them, yet still make an effort to post here after supposedly creating their own community elsewhere.
To the posters who blocked me before I could give a reply(I'm looking at you, BadPennyGirl) - Putting your hands over your ears and wearing rose tinted glasses isn't going to cover up the fact that this show sucks. You can enjoy it but don't try to pretend people are being critical about it for no reason.
If you're going to block me for speaking respectably to you about the issues with this show, then you're going to have to block a whole lot of people in the BL community(good luck with that LOL).
These are the same people who basically gave shows like 2gether a 10. Which had horrendous acting and poor chemistry…
Yes, I think you will really enjoy it, and while I don't really agree with the way all the stories were wrapped up, I don't regret the great experiences I got from them.
I can understand how you feel. Over at "Rainbow Prince" I'm in the minority for enjoying it, but I like that I…
Totally agree with you.
I get that some people enjoy the series, and I'm happy there are still people out there who are passionate for it, but I don't think the white knighting is necessary. If people don't want to post because they would feel embarrassed or uncomfortable with their opinion not fitting in with the consensus, then that's their prerogative. If people are being attacked or bullied for their opinion, then that's another story, and can be reported.
This is a place for critique and praise, and while I know a lot of it's unfair, bias, and downright nasty sometimes(most of the time), you can't suddenly condemn the whole system when it doesn't work in your favor. MDL has a toxic community, but you have to make a conscious decision whether or not you want to participate in it. There are ways to deal with posters you don't like(Block them). But if your issue is everyone having an issue with a show you're enjoying, well that sounds like a personal problem that needs to be addressed, not the system itself.
With that being said, I absolutely despise this season. The pacing is bad, the writing is lazy and forced, and screen time isn't distributed fairly(It's far worse than S1). The budget looks almost non existent and insulting when I see trailers for other shows from Star Hunter like Big Dragon. I don't even like the makeup and costume design.
I despise the way Wayu is depicted in this series, but I am not a hater. I respect the actor and I'm actually a big supporter of Bas. But I also can't fool myself into believing he fits well in this role, and honestly, I don't think any actor would. It's just a bad role period. I've seen Bas do much better(go watch him in 2 Brothers).
I think this just comes down to bad writing and directing. Under different guidance I'm sure Bas and Dun would have better chemistry, and I really hate that this is painting a bad picture for the both of them.
The Markit story is a waste of time, because they haven't done anything remotely interesting or compelling with the story thus far, and if Kit ends up leaving or staying it will feel like we missed out on some great character interactions either way. So why bother?
The rest are just wasted. I would've loved to see more of Phai and Sandee's development, but it's too minimal for me to care. Just like the rest of the other couples. So I had to drop the series. I've supported them enough by jumping through loops with VPNs and paying premium for VIP.
It's just not worth it anymore for me, and I really don't appreciate being lumped into some negative category that isn't true to me, all because I stopped enjoying it and wanted to be vocal with others about my issues with it.
Ive been on not me twitter and I've come to the conclusion that everything that Black is doing is for his brother.…
I think Black is upset that Sean has the power to drag his brother deeper into the situation. I'm sure he realized once Sean confessed to him there was no way at that point he would be able to dissuade White from staying involved with the gang . Black probably doesn't see a good ending for them in this, and Sean asking White to stay beside him probably triggered his reaction the most. I think he sees their relationship as a threat to White's safety. So that is why he tried to shut it down without telling either his true intentions.
Also, I think Black realized Sean's feelings for White were probably genuine, since Sean made no effort to fight back against him.
Anyone who watched, know that Padbok and Sansab have any interaction? in the last season I thought they are going…
The actors for Padbok and Sab had a little mini series last year where they were a couple, It's called Bad Roommate(you can find it on Youtube with subs), and it was under the Star Hunter umbrella. So it's likely they did plan to make them a couple at some point in Gen Y until Padbok's actor(Junior) ended his work with the company.
He has a new bl series that was just announce with a new partner called Boxer in Heart, if you still wanted to follow his work.
Lee Aria's work has improved quite a bit, but I also think his other projects were restricted due to budget issues(lack of sponsors and that kind of stuff). This a big step up from Capture Lover. If anyone has been following his work they will know his projects are produced in China but are distributed outside of the country to avoid the censorship laws. They are NOT series from Taiwan.
It's been quite the struggle to get this far, but it looks like he's really forged a new path for BLs in China. I can only hope his business and sponsors grow after this project and we continue to see a new resurgence of full BL series from China that are quality productions.
I just come for the rants!! LMAO! You can just NOT watch it you know….LOL
For me, it's because I've followed the actors since 2 Moons, and I enjoyed the first season of Gen Y. The actors are a good bunch but keep getting dealt crappy hands. First they get fired prematurely from 2 Moons, then they're given abysmal work in Hotel Stars, and just when it seems like they're getting a good break in Gen Y, we get this train wreck of a season. At this point, they need to be terminating their contracts with Starhunters or demanding them to fire all the writers, makeup team, and directors before they do another project for them again. The series is a joke now and puts all of their reputations at risk.
These are the same people who basically gave shows like 2gether a 10. Which had horrendous acting and poor chemistry…
"Tribalism"... That is one of the most appropriate ways I've heard it described- Will have to borrow that one from you... But again, I totally agree. It extends far passed the BL community.
Thankfully - I wasn't actively reading or participating in the BL community back when Gameboys and Hello Strangers were all the craze(I watched both series and supported them though). Ironically I was on hiatus because of all the silly behavior that was going on with other series before those came out. But much like you would expect, since it seems to be easier for an older generation to appreciate more than one thing, I enjoyed both series.
- I did witness the fan warring between the Not Me and Bad Buddy crowd though. Totally eye rolling stuff since both series are enjoyable, well acted, and made important positive statements within their respective series. People look down on Bad Buddy because of how it takes place in a tropey BL university, but it was so much more than that. Everything in that series was held to a higher standard than your typical University BL, and it was groundbreaking in its own ways(one of the few series I actually really enjoyed the GL couple along with the main cast, for example).
So yeah, I don't buy into the crowds who try to put down that series to prop up shows like Not Me(which is a good series, no doubt). I don't think doing things like that is necessary, and it really annoys me. Because the content is good enough to stand on its own.
- You have a great Watchlist BTW. I found myself agreeing with most of your ratings. I deleted my account awhile back, so I haven't had time to rebuild a profile for myself. 😅
- May I recommend adding the series 55:15 Never Too Late to your Watchlist? It's not BL but there are gay characters, The series is just amazing.
These are the same people who basically gave shows like 2gether a 10. Which had horrendous acting and poor chemistry…
I agree with you. I think there's too much lack of a middle ground and dishonesty within the community. For some reason people take it upon themselves to feel like they need to protect their favorite shows and actors to an irrational level, either by putting down other shows or defending them from fair criticism of others. So a lot of it is just fan wars, which could either be between actors, shows, or even like you mentioned, entire regional feuds between BL communities.
For me, I just want to enjoy a good BL/Bromance show, and I can enjoy them from any region. Unfortunately I find the ratings and comment system here almost useless since neither reflect the true reception of the series/film by the general audience. Either people are overly criticizing or overly praising, or people are comparing which show or actors are better.
I don't feel like I can often participate in nuance discussion since posters often behave like middle school children. it's totally "toxic", or whatever buzz word the kids go by these days, like you mentioned.
- and for the record, I wanted to get it out there that I don't hate 2gether. I just don't understand why it's so highly praised, when most people I know find the performances and writing average at best. I'm happy for its success and what it means for BL moving forward, but I also don't want the standard for quality BL content to be diminished if they plan to use that series as the blueprint moving forward.
And I also feel if people find the acting acceptable in that show, then they should have no reason to complain about the performances in this show. You don't have to like the show but it makes you come off looking hypocritical when you make acting seem like such a big issue, when it's really is no worse than those other shows you give such high praise.
People need to learn to be more fair and accepting of others opinions.
These are the same people who basically gave shows like 2gether a 10. Which had horrendous acting and poor chemistry…
The writing was objectively bad. Especially for the backend of the series.
I will never understand the hype for that series, but I'm not going to hate on it either. I just want people to be consistent with their criticisms. Don't go around complaining about bad acting when you rate shows like 2gether a 10, or complain about problematic storytelling when you're giving high praise to shows like Tharntype and Addicted.
It's fine if people have issues with these things, but I've noticed so much hypocrisy in these comment sections. People's watchlist on here tells me more about them than their complaints do, and leads me to believe many only do it for ulterior motives.
Not some of y’all talking about their acting when it’s far better than most korean bls there acting is fine…
These are the same people who basically gave shows like 2gether a 10. Which had horrendous acting and poor chemistry between the leads. I wouldn't worry too much about them, or the rating.
And the blasted triangle rears it's ugly head. I dunno why but I don't trust Ben. Maybe he didn't kill Phob directly…
There's definitely something fishy about Ben. And like jpny01 mentioned, there is an additional scene during the play in the uncut version that implies a breakup between the two happened at some point. So while there might be some tugging between Phob, Phat, and Ben, I don't think Phob was romantically involved with Ben before whatever led to what happened to him. If anything, we might see Ben try to manipulate what Phob remembers in order to get what he wants, since he definitely appears to be an antagonist here.
Can someone send me the link to watch ep 5 officially please?
It's usually posted on Ch3's site first before they put it up on their Youtube channel. Here's the link: https://ch3plus.com/v/156062 - This is the cut version.
I also recommend watching the uncut version if you can get the premium: https://ch3plus.com/v/156072 - They are cutting out some important scenes, while even some of the less important scenes have more fluff and stuff that adds more backstory to the characters.
I love this, one of my favorites that are airing right now, I watch as soon as each episode is released! The last…
Pretty much my thoughts as well, but didn't Shiro already reveal his sexuality to Ichiro back in episode 2? When he was telling him about the last time he met with his sister.
Going back watching it though, it's not really clear to me now if Shiro told him about all of the details we were seeing. So you could still be right.
But I think one thing really stood out to me that could be an interesting hint to them becoming an item. At the end of the text Shiro mentioned that the next time he met with his sister he would introduce her to the guy he was dating. It could be nothing, but Japanese stories are known for having their symbolisms.
It's not clear to me if they officially pretended to be lovers, but I suppose the symbolism could still play out in that way even if they don't eventually reveal romantic interest in the other.
All ghost stories do this - it's inevitable. Actually Phob said he can touch things when he concentrates, and…
You bring up compelling points but I think you're drawing conclusions that were never made within the story itself. For example, we don't know how the physics in the ghost world actually work in terms of how they are able to sit and stand on floors without falling through. The writers haven't addressed all of the physics in the ghost world for that to count as a writing mistake.
You're concluding it's a mistake based on how they should be affected, or interact as humans in the real world, but they are ghost that live by their own set of rules. What we do know is there's a consistency to them being able to do these things without concentration and there hasn't really been anything up to this point that contradicts why they shouldn't(I'm getting to your other point about Phob needing concentration next).
I would also like to make a correction to one of my previous statements: Phob only mentioned that it takes "intense concentration" in order to hold up objects(he held up a pencil to use as an example). So that's an important distinction that should be kept in mind since it's specific to a certain task, verses it involving how he interacts with everything around him, such as sitting or standing.
Moving/holding objects is difficult for him, while just sitting or standing on objects doesn't seem to require any effort on his part. I can only assume it takes energy to affect the physical world, while just sitting or standing on something wouldn't necessarily require anything, since it's not being affected directly.
I agree that it shouldn't need to be realistic, but if they bother to establish rules in the story then it is only fair that they stick to those rules and be consistent with them. So I think it was fair for the other poster to bring it up, since they set the rules(even though he was mistaken in the end).
Just because it's a fantasy show doesn't mean they should start ignoring their own established rules. That's no different than ignoring any story elements setup by the writer beforehand.
And really, the writing is objectively bad. The directing is objectively bad, but that doesn't seem to stop some people from thinking we're creating negative spaces for them, yet still make an effort to post here after supposedly creating their own community elsewhere.
