Gap has the most pleasing and unexpected reactions/responses as Mon. The elevator scene was pretty awesome. The show has a really unique charm.
But I don't think I was prepared for the rejection scene though, especially considering it seemed like Sol was about to confess his feelings earlier. I don't know if he's dealing with a terminal illness or if he has to move away, but I think it's best to prepare for a possible sad ending.
This drama doesn't feel like the traditional BL stuff, and the tone is a bit somber at times. So I'll hope for the best and expect the worst for now. Still enjoying this quite a lot and haven't had a bored moment where I felt I needed to skip anything. We're halfway through and I still feel engaged.
Just watched the first 4 episodes and have to agree with those who think it's still quite entertaining despite how very different/better I thought this would be. Also, this felt very short for 4 episodes(it's probably still under an hour worth of content so far if we subtract the opening and end credits), so I can only imagine how annoying this must've been for the people who started watching this when it started airing. My advice to those reading and may be interested in starting this is to wait a few weeks. As this feels more like those short Korean BLs that are better watched as a binge.
The finale certainly didn't deliver the same level of energy and compelling storytelling as the early and mid part of the series(I honestly don't think anything was resolved properly and the series probably should've been longer), but it was still an overall great series. So I would still rate it pretty high.
Hoping for Season Two with Deng Lun.His roles are always excellent.Of course Mark Chao is outstanging.I just rewatched…
Very much the same feelings! I loved this movie and was looking forward to the sequel. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be happening after the public issue Deng Lun has been facing recently. All of his projects are starting to be cancelled or censored from what I'm understanding. :(
I watched all the uncut episodes, so my experience was probably very different from those who didn't. I know some thought the story was slow in some areas, but for me, I really appreciated how much time this show took to breathe and focus on character development and world building. Each episode felt like a full experience(one of the few shows that didn't make me feel like episodes were too short and would rather binge). There is so much depth and consistency to the lore setup here and room to expand the story for multiple seasons.
The BL aspect was great. Nut and Plan have great chemistry as Phat and Phob. As much as the story delves into world building, lore and the other characters, they never forget to keep the story centered around these two. Their relationship felt very organic and compelling. From start to finish.
The show also does a solid job keeping you invested in many of its support characters. Dream, for example, has leading potential and stands out as a complex character with an interesting past. I would love to see more of this character(perhaps in a season 2 or spinoff series). I don't think she had enough development with her love interest(Luck), but there's plenty of room to explore their story in something else if they wanted(it's very different from our leads' story).
Another aspect that is a true highlight is the drama. This show explores some very heavy themes and tackles many of them head on and with poise. I found myself tearing up and feeling tons of emotions throughout the series. So many of the cast bring their A-game. Even some of the guest star actors(like Green, as Ben).
The music was another highlight. It's filled with tons of original work, A nice blend of horror, synthwave, cinematic, and even some classical Thai music(I loved Aunt Nuan's theme). They definitely took some inspiration from shows like Stranger Things(there's even a poster of it in Phat's bedroom)
And last but not least, the horror aspects were surprisingly well done. The show legitimately has some pretty scary moments. I watched a few episodes in the dark, which help elevate the experience. I would say it's not too scary for those who may think that it might be though.
Overall. this series set out to do what it promised. A supernatural horror themed BL with great drama and a engaging story. Highly recommended for those looking for these things.^^
Agree i just wanted to write it, it felt kinda off that they made Thorn the only bad guy in this whole situation. It…
Exactly that!
Thorn has been the person who has shown the most patience and understanding, he was the one who really brought the team together and brought Fah out of his dark place. As friends, they should understand the consistency of his character, and that every person has a limit. Everyone has their breaking point. People say it was bad writing because it wasn't consistent with his behavior before these events, but I think it was the first time Thorn has had to deal with so many issues at once. Also, there were shades of this behavior when Fah brought that girl he liked to one of their practices.
Fah knew what they did together in practice was always a soft spot for Thorn(just like Thorn knew it was for Fah after he got jealous of his brother practicing with them), which is why I really didn't like that he used that against him during their game in this episode. When Thorn told him to stop letting him win, he didn't mean 'start mocking me with our moves with Shane'(especially considering that's where the issues started in the first place).
Fah did tell Shane at one point to lay off though, but it also told me they knew what they were doing. Again, this made the situation grow progressively worse. When your friends are acting out you should be trying to help them, not make it worse. So I don't think any of them behaved like particularly good friends.
I think it was probably the best route to go with Fah and Thorn's relationship. Them resetting things and starting over, since there's just no way those issues can be realistically resolved in my opinion. Not without time. But I did like that they at least didn't pretend things were back to the way they were, and that they were going to have to work to improve their relationship in the future.
We'll see how things go with his friends. I don't think they're back on good terms with Thorn yet, so maybe there's a chance they could surprise us and have them apologize as well.
@FreshKicks: I haven't started Oh Boarding House, but Gen Y 2 was such a disaster in my opinion. One of the very…
Ah, gotcha. I'm personally not so caught up with the looks of the actors, even though it's always an added bonus. ^^
But I agree with you, from what we've seen so far(and if our suspicions about him are right), then Saint is simply not the type of person who would seem invested in a serious relationship, and if he is, it may not be to the benefit of his partner.
I don't want to judge him too quickly though, since we've seen so little of him, but I've enjoyed Mon and Sol's chemistry more either way. So for now, I don't see any reason to jump ship.
People may find Saint to be more attractive, but beauty can sometimes be only skin deep. Probably a worn out adage, but still quite relevant. haha
Thorn was being insufferable but I really don't think his friends were making it any better or trying to see where he was coming from. At the end of the day his team and his boyfriend made him feel left out while he was recovering from his injury, which can be emotionally destabilizing in itself, so he reacting out a place of hurt. He wanted to be more independent and not feel like he needed to rely on them anymore. The boiling point started with him overhearing Fah questioning his feelings for him(and talking behind his back with Shane), then it turned to his team looking down on him for choosing to work with Coach Tuan(when it was his choice to choose whether or not he wanted to risk his health to get back into the game), and then it was the team captains who left him last to be picked, which only served to make him feel more isolated.
But I think the most egregious part was Fah and Shane teaming up on him. Using basketball moves that he and Fah used to do together, and mocking him as the game grew more intense. I get that they were angry at Thorn for acting out, and for him losing his cool, but it wasn't without reason. There were so many ways they could've help deescalate the situation(as friends and people who made him start to feel that way in the first place), but at every turn they only made it worse. So I found myself really not liking that he was the only one who needed to apologize, because there was plenty of room for everyone in that area. I think what saved it for me was Fah coming back though. The scene with them reconciling after Thorn broke down was handled beautifully,
The episode was compelling and well written overall in my opinion. I could see where all of the characters were coming from, which made the experience feel real, and the director and production team did a great job making me feel engaged with the game. I just think people are a little too hard on Thorn, and forgetful of what he's been through and how his friends and boyfriend made him feel. I'm not excusing his behavior, but it's pretty evident he wasn't the only one at fault.
Episode 5 will get a lot of hate on here. I loved it. I'll take this series over any number of lazily-produced…
@FreshKicks: I haven't started Oh Boarding House, but Gen Y 2 was such a disaster in my opinion. One of the very few BLs I've had to drop before I could finish... and I've sat through some pretty horrific ones. I think what you said about it is completely accurate.
Our Days, so far, is much better produced, and I agree with you about enjoying the dynamic with Mon and So more. There's just something about the way Mon's actor conveys this silent mysterious and unpredictable aura with him that keeps me intrigued. It's often left me anticipating what he'll do or how he'll react next to something.
It's also interesting to see So try to figure him out, along with managing his obvious feelings that are developing for him(without alarming him before he's ready), and also finding ways to learn more about him while being very careful not to overstep his bounds(again).
I don't have any major issues with Saint, other than the fact that he feels a little scandalous and manipulative, but we'll see how his character unwraps. It's possible that his falling out with Mon caused him to go on a downward spiral.
It feels slow, but I think the character arcs at least feel organic and story driven. So far, I haven't felt like I've wasted my time on any of the episodes. I don't think it's the best BL out there, but I think it's up to a decent standard.
I thought it was a great drama overall, but I definitely stand with those who feel the quality took a significant nosedive toward the latter half of the series. I would say I was 100% engaged and invested with the story, plot, and characters up until around episode 8. It was around that time I started feeling like all character and story progression had come to a screeching and disappointing halt. The writing started to become sloppy and inorganic as well.
The last episode definitely confirmed my suspicions that at some point the production team decided halfway through that they wanted to save the rest of the story for a second season. So, they dragged out the remaining episodes without really resolving or moving anything.
I will be back if there's a season 2, but I'm disappointed they decided to go this route because the quality of the show really took a hit from it, and there's no guarantee we will get another season, let alone with the same cast and production team.
The final episodes are up. Thank you all for going on this magical journey with me. This show was way more popular…
I'm happy you enjoyed the series and enjoyed subbing it. This was such a fun experience. Very funny and heartwarming. From start to finish. Ren Yu and Long Jie were great, and I even enjoyed his friends and Bi Yu. I really hope that teaser at the end leads to a season 2 at some point.
Will watch again on official platforms to show my support whenever it does get an official release. Thanks again for your hard work! ❤️
Seeing lots of comparisons to 'You're My Sky', which is personally amazing to me as well, and the tone is quite similar(so I understand the comparisons), but I don't think that standard of quality(which I consider to be high caliber) is necessary to hold in a contest with a series like Our Days. There's plenty of room for both, and I think this one is good enough so far on its own.
season 3 was cancelled babes. rejoice or cry, whatever is your preference
Well, I for one am glad it's cancelled, and not for the reasons of spoiling the fun for those(few) who may have enjoyed this season(like it's been misconstrued in the past), but because I think the actors deserve a project that they can truly convey their talent on; is much better produced(especially the writing and directing), and can be much better received by the masses.
I don't know what's going on with Starhunter but it's clear they didn't care about this show. It's so obvious after seeing some of their upcoming projects, which clearly have much higher production value. Hoping for better things for the actors in the future.
It's an improvement in some areas over Aria Lee's previous projects, but this could've used a bit more polish in the writing, directing/editing, and acting. I know the production suffered under the pandemic, which probably caused many of these issues(along with the budgetary constraints), but this felt a little too half-baked(and dated) for me to enjoy overall(I did like some parts of it though).
There simply wasn't enough time to develop the characters/story well enough either, and It felt like all of these issues came second to them putting the focus on emulating the aesthetics of 'Addicted'.
Hoping for better and brighter projects from China in the future with BL. Despite its drawbacks this was still a big step forward.
Just saw the uncut version and yes it feels 1000times better BUT I am annoyed with how Phob and Phat touching…
I don't think you missed anything, but Phob did establish in this episode that he's able to do more with Phat now(so the old rule isn't technically being ignored). I would assume it's because their connection is getting stronger, and/or because he's remembering more of his past. Also, it's possible they may have been touching each other(earlier in the episode) without really realizing they could.
Sitting in the boat with the people who believe the issue is with the writing and directing instead of Mix's acting. Someone explained it well that it seemed like overreacting(of Mix's character) verses Mix himself overacting. The writing(and directing) simply didn't provide the necessary tension and cues for his character to react at that level.
The director's job is to instruct the actors to convey the emotions necessary for a scene. So, if he's telling Mix to play the emotions at a 10, when there was really no buildup for us to believe he would react in that way, then the fault lies on the directing. The writing is at fault here as well, because it's the writing that is supposed to explain the behavior of the characters.
This might be a slight spoiler, but I don't believe Win would react to Korn the way that he did after the setup between the characters in the early part of the episode. Unless I missed something, Korn was accepted into the family, so why wouldn't his dad leave him something in his will?
There should've been something more to convince him that Korn only got involved with them for that reason. Finding out that his dad left him something is just not enough of a reason and felt like very poor writing to me.
Thanks for the summary. I knew the funeral was going to be massive character assassination across the board, which…
I appreciate the response, but this really just comes off as you defending a friend even though you know what they did is wrong.
With that being said, what you did was mostly speculate our stances and intentions without any credible evidence(this is why I asked for proof). I would ask that you refrain from doing this in the future as this leads to unnecessary misunderstandings and offences
My stances are outlined below:
1. BPG replied to me three days ago. I have made no attempts or efforts to respond to her post, because I simply don't care or feel any hurt toward her reaction. I haven't responded to any post here in those three days. My initial response to her was in relation to her making a blanket statement about negative behavior. If she wanted me to know she wasn't referring to me, and those who take my stance, then she shouldn't have blocked me from reading or replying to her post, and she definitely shouldn't have responded in the first place if she wasn't going to leave me without a chance to respond.
2. I do take issue with the fact that you equate my response to what she did to me, when what she did was silence my voice in an open forum. An abuse of the system. Last I checked, she can unblock me at any time to read and respond to my post, while the same isn't true for me. I have no way of knowing what she said or have the opportunity to respond in defense to my statements she or others may have misconstrued. She made a conscious decision not to communicate, but still sent a response. So please don't belittle what she did here or equate it to what I did. I haven't silenced anyone's voices here, called them haters, or belittled their opinions. I'm too old for that behavior.
3. I responded to a summary here in this thread's OP(in thanks) about the latest episode. I read it to confirm my suspicions that the episode would play out like I suspected it would and to see if I should continue to keep this on my dropped list(I dropped the show last week and made a statement about it here if you want proof). So no, this wasn't some sort of attack to get back at BPG for blocking me. I'm not that petty. As far as I'm concerned this was my final attempt to return to the series.
4. My other response wasn't just to BPG, but to all the posters who recently blocked me here. And that was ONLY to reiterate my stance that I wasn't being toxic and to those that think I am were fooling themselves. If they felt the need to block me for having a non aggressive opinion that is critical of the series, then they are proving exactly what you claim they are not concerned about. You can't have it both ways.
5. I don't get what you disagree about as it pertains to negativity vs toxicity. Negativity isn't synonymous with toxic behavior, while toxic behavior is always considered negative. Being critical of something can be considered negative, but not always toxic. So using that word(negativity) so broadly is the reason I initiated my response, as I felt like my behavior was being called out. We both agree on this, so we both understand people can feel negatively toward something without creating a toxic atmospheres.
6. I watch and read comments for plenty of shows that have a negative critical consensus, but I am not going to fool myself into believing they are all toxic people for being vocal about their dislike for it. People love and hate things, and it would be no different if a show was receiving a large degree of critical praise. We can't just call it out when it goes against us.
7. You have no evidence that I have an issue with people enjoying the show. None of my responses here prove that in the least bit. I haven't attacked one post here praising the show, and I have only responded in defense of myself. So please don't make up things that simply aren't true. I have only been factual in things that can be made as such, such as the writing and directing(both are objectively bad). While I have left other things to my opinion.
8. I don't care what BPG's background is, her response was unwarranted and implies she has a problem with me being critical of the series, just like the others who blocked me, and I have just as much right to call it out as they do the toxic behavior of others.
Thanks for the summary. I knew the funeral was going to be massive character assassination across the board, which…
Go back and read my post to her and tell me if what I said warranted being blocked before I could read or even reply to the message. The post is still there for everyone else to read, but I can't see it or reply to it(but was still given the notification). Even my other post in that thread are gone for me. So no, whatever you're telling me isn't the same as what I just did. I haven't blocked anyone. I haven't disrespected or bullied anyone here, and if I did, I would like a legitimate explanation or proof to what I did.
Creating a community "free of negativity" isn't the same as saying you're creating a community free of toxic behavior. Criticism and toxic behavior are two very different things. Bullying, racism, and disrespectful behavior are things that are toxic(and was acknowledged in my reply to her), but people having legitimate concerns about the writing and directing of stories and characters in this series is not toxic behavior. The writing of these characters are objectively problematic, and people should not be deemed haters("Wayu haters", for example is not a legitimate attack since Wayu is a fictional character), or negative people for being vocal about these issues.
The show sucking is subjective, but I never brought that up in the discussion I had with anyone prior to my statement above. I only said that out of frustration to the people who deemed me a negative person for not agreeing with their opinion of the series(Yes, I know it was more than just BPG that gave me a block, and my post above was directed to them. Along with all the ones who were thinking of doing the same in the future for similar reasons).
Go back and try to find anything that says otherwise. I've always maintained that the writing and directing are objectively bad, Was always respectful to everyone I encountered(never bullying or bashing), and have done nothing but support this series and the actors up until now.
But I don't think I was prepared for the rejection scene though, especially considering it seemed like Sol was about to confess his feelings earlier. I don't know if he's dealing with a terminal illness or if he has to move away, but I think it's best to prepare for a possible sad ending.
