You're welcome, my friend 😊

I usually listen to Chinese drama OST's when I'm working πŸ˜ƒ

Come to think of it, most of my fave dramas have my fave OSTs as well. Perhaps having great OSTs contributed to my emotional attachment to them. Or perhaps having great music is a manifestation or extension of a great production.

My siblings and I have just been marveling at the universality of music and been sharing our fave pieces from all over the world. I shared Roc Chen's of course 😊

This is one reason I avoid reading novels of upcoming dramas; I don't want to have expectations of any sort. I've…
Very well said! You took the words out of my mouth regarding why I watch dramas - it's to entertain myself - to laugh, swoon and feel whatever other emotions the characters feel. And yes, to learn about another culture, for example, what Chinese entrepreneurs are interested in now, like chips production . So I go with the flow that the scriptwriter and director want the drama to go, living vicariously through the lead characters, so their interactions not only with each other but also with other cast members are all treasured as part of this adventure.

I've often wondered how critics can enjoy dramas when all they see are the faults. When I watch a drama and get drawn to the story and characters, I feel part of the drama. If I have to keep watching out for flaws, I wouldn't be able to immerse myself into the world I'm watching and thus would not enjoy it as much. Some critics are heckling the use of slow-motion. In fact, I'm amused by slow-motion sequences, especially when accompanied by appropriate background music, making it feel like a dance.

I like what you said, so I hope you don't mind me repeating it,
"For after all we can only measure its merits . .
We cannot be the Judges or Jurors for anything that is Fiction . . ."

i think that's what it is. For all her intelligence and good looks, she suffered from low esteem because of the rejection. She's also scared that her ex and his gf would tell Shi Yan she (Shu Yin) approached him (Shi Yan) to get back at her ex. She should really tell Shi Yan before he finds out from another source. But our flaky girl is so conflicted, with the worst advisor too 🀨

I am hoping with more international platforms that the C Drama fans will start calming down. I can't believe how…
That's a good perspective. Indeed, the international market would give cdrama actors that are not appreciated in their own country an opportunity to continue working in their chosen career. Unfortunately, it seems toxic cdrama fans and maybe even YXH and water armies are starting to take over international social media. I'm seeing a lot of Youtube videos defaming cdrama actors. International drama scoring sites like Imdb have also been infested. Even MDL 🀨

Don't worry, your comment looks good πŸ˜ƒ

You've got an enviable job πŸ˜ƒ So your team watches more or less 2 cdramas each year?

Regarding OST, have you heard of Roc Chen's compositions featured in Royal Nirvana, Ever Night, Love Between Fairy and Devil and A Dream of Splendor? He's almost as good as john Williams.

If you are interested in kdramas, I highly recommend Extraordinary Attorney Woo and Reborn Rich. They have only 16 episodes.

Wow, what a cool topic to write about. Is this for a literature or film course?

I'm afraid I'm not that objective. I admire the combination of technical, aesthetic and emotional elements of a drama. I used to be into Korean dramas but the screaming and yelling became too much for my piece of mind so I tried cdramas. The stories blew me away! Have you watched Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms yet? The cgi might be kind of lousy, but the story and emotional attachment are so good I got hooked hard. Other cdramas with awesome stories are Nirvana in Fire, Princess Agents, Princess Weiyoung, The Sword and The Brocade and Love Between Fairy and Devil. There are many more cdramas with fascinating stories, but what makes some cdramas more memorable for me are actually subjective elements like actors' charisma, acting, soundtrack and cinematography.

I also noticed important details that went over my head first time I watched the drama coz I was still not too familiar with the characters, like the reason Shu Yi was convinced Qin Le Zhi is Shi Yan's niece is because Shanshan read some article reporting that Shi Yan has a niece named Qin

it's frighteningly true. which is why i pity Chinese celebrities. They seem like fiddlers on the roof - "trying to scratch out a a pleasant, simple tune without breaking their necks"

I was also shocked at the degree of corruption that has pervaded the Chinese Entertainment industry. With the practices of yxh and water armies, Chinese drama scoring systems like douban have been rendered useless. Only production teams with deep pockets can afford to buy high douban scores. Those who refuse to play this game of blackmail will have to be prepared to receive low scores.

Yep sometimes rejection and breaking up is the best thing that can happen. It’s the same in real life too
she needs to. I hope she realizes how much and how well Shi Yan loves her.

What infuriates me most are those that are posted for the main purpose of defaming the actor, like "wooden acting". Do viewers expect Dylan to act like an emotional teenage boy here? Being stoic is a useful quality that men in position cultivate. It would not do for them to be emotional in front of their business associates. Shi Yan is acting like a proper CEO. In addition, by nature, Shi Yan is reserved and taciturn, so Dylan is acting in character. If these cdrama critics got hold of BBC productions, the likes of Mr. Darcy and other gentlemen characters would be burnt to a crisp!

Hi, welcome to C-dramas 😊 I also grew up in western movies and dramas and am flabbergasted at the vitriol I'm encountering in this industry. I'm actually missing the peace and quiet of enjoying the movies and dramas of Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, Sandra Bullock, Benedict Cumberbatch, etc without encountering nonsensical criticisms like those I see here.

yeah, i've read complaints from SOKP fans about fans of other dramas (not OFL, since OFL fans respect SOKP coz of Bai Lu) trying to lure viewers away from SOKP which is a devious move. Even here in OFL thread you can see that happening, posts attacking OFL and saying some other drama is better. I agree it's disgustingly low.

Some people don't understand that the criticism this drama is getting, isn't the typical 'haters gonna hate' type.…
This is one reason I avoid reading novels of upcoming dramas; I don't want to have expectations of any sort. I've read Chinese novels after I've watched the dramas and compare them ex post facto. If the drama departs from the novel, I try to analyze if the departure was worth it.

I guess I've gotten used to the artistic license US filmmakers have used to adapt novels to the screen. For example, The Sound Of Music is known to have departed a lot from the real-life story it was based on, e.g. the captain was not as cold and overbearing in real life as depicted and the beautiful scene at the end when the family climbed the alps with the music 'Climb Every Mountain" soaring in the background is not only a stark departure from what really happened in real life which was the family taking a train out of Austria, but an impossibility since the mountains they supposedly climbed in the movie was thousands of miles away from Salzburg. But millions all over the world still love the movie and it's considered one of the best movies of all time.

I try to judge a drama based on its own merit, on what the scriptwriter and director are trying to tell the audience. That's why I try not to be a couch scriptwriter or director. And I'm enjoying this drama very much. I never thought I'd like a flaky FL but Bai Lu is bringing Shu Yi to life in such a funny and adorable way I can't help but root for her. Dylan Wang is perfect as the intelligent, reserved and taciturn CEO who falls in love with a brilliant reporter who shares the same values of hard-work and passion to help society as him. I also find the other cast members and business talks interesting as they add dimension to the world in which the leads live in.

So, Chinese actors do not only have to contend with rabid fans of other actors who defame them to raise their idols up , they also have to deal with blackmail from so-called YXH, questionable humans who get paid to hate a celeb or spread negativity about them, or water armies which are groups of users who are paid to post online comments with vested interest on Chinese language websites. (definition of water armies is from google)

Here is a post from a staff at HunanTV/MangoTV:
Some YXH, in order to receive marketing placements from the drama production/airing side, often engage in various forms of negative posts. They do this in exchange for marketing placements from airing platforms or marketing companies... If you don't pay those YXH, they'll criticize you. If you pay them, they will stop criticizing. But they will criticize again next time in exchange of more.

Reply from an influencer:
And you can't do one-for-one exchange. After posting something positive, they will immediately continue posting something negative. You can only provide a large sum at once, agreeing on how many non-negative posts to exchange. In this way, it could be the least cost to cover your promotional period so that they won't post anything that intentionally defames the works or artists again.

the discussion topic "Choosing a Partner Like a Venture Capitalist with Shi Yan [Long] [Analysis]" has an excellent analysis of how Shi Yan fell for her. As for her, she started out with bad agenda (use him for magazine and get back at ex). However, it's obvious she finds him attractive (she almost slobbers when she looks at him) and the more she gets to know him better, the more she admires him - he is not only intelligent and upright, he's sweet, caring, thoughtful, dependable, mature (except when he gets jealous) and their banter shows them well matched in wit and humor. before she knew it herself she has fallen in love with him such that she is scared of what he might feel if her ex tells him she only went after him (Shi Yan) to get back at him (the ex). In short, as with most relationships, their day-to-day interactions brought them close together
